Just incredible! I cleaned stones last month in WV. It’s so rewarding to return a year later and see them spotless and white. Granite stones clean much easier. You did a great job repairing and cleaning it!!❤❤❤❤

Great restoration and a fantastic cleaning! Can't wait to trade all the snow on the ground for some more D/2 for spring cleaning. Thanks to Atlas Preservation for all you are doing, and especially thank you for touring the USA. I had the privilege to meet Mr. Appell in person at his stop at The Gap Cemetery near Albany, Wisconsin. Such a passionate restorer and dedicated educator for monument preservation. Ultimately I can't forget to thank the tree that made this video possible, nothing beats a tree right on top of a monument.

It's really inspiring to see good people like yourself helping to clean and restore headstones of all kinds, some neglected or never cleaned before u came along to restore and show tribute and respect to the person or family buried there. I am almost finished cleaning an old marble headstone of family plot of a person who died in the 1990s and his ancestors also buried there. They are not related to me. It was erected in 1886 and not cleaned for decades or well over 40 years and is now looking a lovely creamy white colour with a lovely design that was hidden under layers of black dirt or algae. It took 3 gentle cleanings to achieve that. 🙂🙂👍

Great instructional video. When I first used D/2 I did not get the results I hoped for. I didn't realize it continued working over time. Two months in I was shocked how great our family monuments looked! I use D/2 regularly now to keep the stones looking their best.

I bought some D2 to clean my family's gravestones in River View Cemetary in Westerly, RI. I applied it and and some results were immediate but there was a lot of growth on other stones never cleaned and in the ground since the 1970's. I will be going back in a month to see how the cleaner has done in time. Is it too soon to make another application on the stones with lots of growth after a month? Glad it is approved because my living family members would be very upset if I had used the wrong chemicals and harmed the stone-I would be upset as well. Thanks for your videos and products.

I have been working on a stone in Lakeview Cemetery, East Hampton. I doubt it had ever been cleaned and the occupant was buried in 1878. Everytime I drive by the cemetery now, 15 months later, the white stands right out!! D/2 is a marvelous thing.

Hello, and thank you for your preservation efforts. Cleaned headstones can be a source of pride for the whole community and not just the affected families. I do have a question about the D/2 Biologic Solution. In many videos it is stated the solution continues to work over time, but it appears it would have been totally washed off by the scrubbing and rinsing with water. So, should more be applied after the scrubbing and rinsing is complete so there is a residual left to act over time?

Excellent video. The main reason salespeople tell you to apply cleaners from the bottom up and rinse from the top down is so you use more product and come back to buy more. I do roof and exterior cleaning and the only item that it is required to apply cleaners from the bottom up are organic surfaces such as wood homes. Bleaches help to sanitize and lighten the organic stains, similar to what is on tombstones. However, when bleach runs down the surface, it forms thin streams that bleach lighter and look bad, and this is worse if it hits the top of a window and these thin streams become heavy. In these cases, working from the bottom up allows these streams to spread across the entire wet surface and give you a more uniform cleaning. About the only other surfaces to worry with are old metal siding where the paint is heavily oxidized and damaged. You need to treat those with extreme kid gloves or you can easily remove the damaged paint, and in some cases, all the way down to the metal. On brick, painted surfaces, vinyl siding, etc., you can apply cleaners from the top down, and as the cleaning product cascades down the surface, it can clean and allow for less product to be used. Love this product and your videos though.

Thank you for this! I am hoping to clean some of the stones in a few of the smaller cemeteries around here, most are pioneers with markers dating to the 1830s and 40s. Would this solution work well on an older stone like that?

Yes, can you please answer the question that herbk98 asked; Would it be better to give the stone a quick covering of D2 after the cleaning?

It is common to spray the stone with D/2 after scrubbing + rinsing with water before leaving the cemetery. It is not required as the D/2 from the initial application will penetrate the stone and continue to work over time. If you have extra D/2 and want to give it a light spray on your way out it certainly wouldn’t hurt!

No Scrub / No Rinse Method Using a sprayer (pump-up, low pressure, or other,) wet the entire surface with D/2. Allow to air dry. D/2 works with the elements and results occur within one week to one month, depending on severity of soil. Reapply if rain occurs within 12 hours of application.

After a few cleanings on my mother's headstone with D2 I have few orange "rust" spots coming through, this after 6 weeks. Will this go in time. It has done a great job I have black slowly disappearing after breaking it up.

I am cleaning a large commerical building with limestone coping and window headers on the 3rd and 4th story. Beneath is all brick - do I have to worry about the brick getting damaged or leaving chemical marks?

I have a question, ive been helpingvto clean stones. One project lady says, thouroughly wet first then d2 , the other lady states spray with d2 not water first . And another lady states water first with drinkable water not a hose or from a well. I want to do it right they all work in cemetaries but seems strange each have different way of doing it. Thanks
