Cleaning a Noodler's Flex Pen

Here I show you how to completely take apart and reassemble the Noodler's piston-fill 'Nib Creaper' flex nib pen for a thorough cleaning. All you need is a Q-tip.

I'm loving the Noodler's Creaper pens I bought! Can't believe they flex and write/draw so well for $16-17 pens! I love adjusting the feed and nibs for different flow. (I clean both with alcohol before filling the pen for the very first time, just to make sure there is no machining oil residue from the factory on them.) I was wondering how i would replace the piston gasket rings eventually... now I know how to totally disassemble them- thank you!

Thank you, thank you thank you. I'm new tot he world of fountain pens and a friend recently gave me this pen. It fell apart in transit and I just assumed it was broken. You've saved it going into the bin.

LMAO I Just got to minute 2:22. You said "this pen is so easy to disassemble" and I immediate said "HA! yeah right!" Followed the steps and I didn't even have to pull hard and it popped right out! Seriously, I almost smashed my hand expecting to exert so much force. Great video! Thank you for the walk through!

Just keep at it, I break Q-tips all the time with this method. If a q-tip just isn't strong enough, then try something firmer (but still with a blunt/soft end so it won't damage the piston seal). You just need something to put back pressure on that seal so the back of the pen will unscrew.

Just grip it like I did in the video, and slowly twist it back and forth until it loosens up. It's just friction-fit in there, so it shouldn't be too much trobule. If it's really stuck, it could be because there is dried ink holding it in place. Try cleaning it first .

A small wood dowel will work...or anything else that's pretty strong, but won't mar the piston seal.

Nice video instruction. For the Neponset...just got the Victory Garden and inked with N Black. It stained the section. So I removed nib and feed and cleaned and soaked. Still see some discoloring. There is a white insert part inside the section. Can that be easily and safely removed? I appreicate your time and efforts.

I have ordered 1 ahab and 2 nib creapers all flex nibs. I'm fro Singapore and it's been a week over since I've ordered. I know US to Singapore is very far, but may I know how long more it would take? That is, if you know. I just can't wait to get my first flex pens:-)

why won't my noodler's pen unscrew? the piston is coming down and bending/breaking my q-tip instead of unscrewing out of the back of the pen

Can I use petroleum jelly instead of silicon grease? I don't have silicon grease and I still want my piston to run smoothly.

Be very careful if you try this. While trying the part with the Q-Tip to remove the back end of the pen it broke instead of unscrewing. The part the holds the screw to the back finial broke and the screw now moves away from the back instead of pushing the plunger. I didn’t think I was using much force but obviously something went wrong. Just be very, very careful.

I bought a Triple Tail from you a few months ago, and now I want to change the ink color. I've been using Noodler's Apache Sunrise. I did a quick sink wash, but there's still lots of ink in the section. So, I decided to follow your instructions in the video. Right away, a problem. Pulling and twisting the nib and feed doesn't work. They don't budge. I even tried to use your trusty rubber nib gripper. No dice. Now what? I don't want to damage this nice nib. Also, my pen has a thin plastic tube that goes into the feed. I don't see this in your video. Why not? OT: Brian, you make an effort to come across as a nice guy, kind of like a neighbor; but you obviously don't read comments on your vidoes. Probably, you throw anything you think is critical into file 13. After all, anyone who says "awesome" as much as you do is not to be trusted.
