Worked in a Ford dealership back in the early 90's and we had one customer that treated his F150's like that. He was an old farmer and bought a brand new truck every few years - kind of typical and farm trucks see rough service, but I never saw any vehicles come back in service as rough and filthy as his. He liked his Redman tobacco and would spit out the driver side window, yet made no effort to clear it. Outside and inside of the door would be covered with tobacco spit all they way to the bottom, and the handle pocket would have a pool of it. Every so often, we would have to disassemble the door and clean everything out because the mechanisms would bind. I was in the business for about a decade and never saw worse treated vehicles - He absolutely never washed them either. The irony was that when he bought them new, he would nit-pick every detail for fit, finish, and cleanliness like you would not believe. Six months later they'd come in for service trashed out beyond belief. We just shook our heads and figured - his money, his truck to do what he wants. Odd, but good customer who bought many new F150's from that dealership over many years.

Then it was time to repaint our walls. They were supposed to be an off white but they looked brown because of the years of smoking they were exposed to. Before they would be painted I wanted them cleaned because I didn't want someone to try to paint over all that nicotine. Some people came in and cleaned the walls and when they were through we saw that we didn't really need to repaint. All that nicotine came off the walls and they looked great. How about the carpets? Had a friend that was kicked out of her apartment for cumulative damage from smoking. Up until then, I'd thought all the carpet in the apartment was supposed to be goldenrod and 'autumn' in the 'office' where she spent most of her time. When the furniture was cleaned out I realized it was all supposed to be one color: almond. I have another good friend that is about the same age as the first but she quit during her first pregnancy (her mother's passing at age 53 from smoking probably helped make that decision easier), and she is in good health 40+ years later. @@TheDetailGeek 1) I've had a few cars like that over my 35 yrs as a mechanic mostly working for FORD. I had a late 70's mini LTD that was owned by an older railroad worker who brought it in for occasional service. It looked like he painted the car himself with a roller and house paint, worst part of working on it was the fact he had about 50 baseball sized wads of chewing tobacco spit out on the dash. WTF? Why was he saving them? 2) I've had cars with ashtrays overflowing and you could smell it before you ever opened the doors, I used to keep a gallon jug of odorban in my toolbox and would wet a shop rag and throw it into the car before I would drive it into the shop. 3) I had an Escort once that had so much McDonald's trash in the back area that it was flat from the front seat headrests all the way back to the hatchback, you couldn't see the rear seats at all. It was a trade-in and I was asked to diag a tap in the engine. I pulled the valve cover off and you couldn't see the valve train, it had so much sludge you could have painted it and nobody would have known it didn't have a valve cover on it, you could even read the stamped Ford logo the cover had on it before I took it off. It had about 250k miles and I don't think it ever had an oil change. 4) I think the worst smelling car was some 400lb sweat hog brought in for service, when you opened the door it smelled like a group of kids were partying in it and had a puking contest, out came the odorban again.
