Excellent. Skinning gar is a lost art. You’re all over it, the only thing I can add is to let loose of your wrist when swinging your big blade taking off the spine plate. Kinda like swinging a hammer at a 16 penny nail. You’ll get it done with less swings if you let your wrist loosen up a bit. I have a hard time doing it due to some damage I’ve done to my wrists and elbows.

When I was little, a family friend would always give us Fried Gar (cooked like fried Catfish). He would give the cleaned bleached scales to my grandma for free. She would paint them and make earrings and jewelry out of them; then sale them. She would always try to give him a cut from her profit but he never take it. Fond memories of growing up with my grandma and the man who always gave us Gar, Bass, & Catfish after his fishing trips on the Falcon Lake, Zapata, Texas in the 80s.

I use to clean my gar like that till I accidentally let the knife go from my hand being slimy. I invested a lil money and bought myself a cheap black and Decker battery operated skill saw. Cuts the gar right down the back in 15 seconds and don't have to do all that Sling Blade whacking bro. Be careful bro but I love your videos. I love gar fishing as much as you and I make my own leaders almost the same as yours. I just caught a 6 ft gar on 7-9-21 in El Campo Texas. Keep the videos coming bro. My buddies and I use to say we were gonna make a Catany belt one day out of the shell strip off the back. Lmao!!!!!

I was told the meat taste better if you bleed them first? I love watching your videos which is why I'm subscribed. This one was a little bit hard to watch. I mean I realize when we fish we are exactly killing something for our own gain.... I had flashbacks though of like? I don't remember what it was? Was it Amityville Horror that had that dude peeling his face off in the mirror? Or was it Silence of the Lambs where the dude was peeling the body while it was still alive? I don't remember? But yeah flash backs... Maybe it's cuz the gar is so huge. Not to mention that one was definitely old.... Dude! Meat for days!!! Nice 😋..... Nah I've watched this a couple times. It's totally the Gill plate man it's totally the Gill plate moving that flips your brain inside out... Still can appreciate the work. It's freaking awesome!... But that gar is still breathing. I was specifically watching for reflex twitches. That fish was totally breathing. It's a freaking gar they breathe air. Sucker can stay alive out of the water for more than 24 hours because of that amazing ability. That was definitely a breathing fish... Brutal purely brutal... not only that but at 4:25 he straight-up says "still alive"... LMAO! He's probably having the time of his life reading all this crap!...Kickin video dude💓

So instead of using a cleaver , have you ever tried a reciprocating saw? I use them processing deer and other wild games. But you do have mad skills with that cleaver!! Lol. Keep up the good work. Sincerely Tom

Liked the video. Thought the animal would be better dead versus alive. However been check you out a lot. Your presentation is awesome. I like how you seperated the fish and cut the fish when cooking for your family. ( Great for you daughter.)
