Cleaning and Reassembling Old Craftsman Floor Jack

The old craftsman jack that has my transmission holder on it simply will not stay up, even for a few seconds! Basically goes down as fast as you can pump it up. Decided to completely disassemble and clean the hydraulics on the jack. Do not try this as it can be dangerous to try repairing a jack!

There's another video out there that shows a hack to the slowly dropping of it. And basically the hack is to pump it all the way up and then once you have it pumped up to continue company 20 times and I'll take care of it did it on mine worked great.

If you want to see this video at a more normal speed, go to the "Settings" at the bottom of the screen and click on that gear shaped icon. Then, click on the Playback speed 0.25 banner. This is 1/4 speed. For other speeds, choose Custom and scroll from side to side for 0.25 x to 1.95x speed. Then, click Play video.

Sr i mess with the dont adjust screw on my 2.5 ton jack i just adjust it all the way down .. and people say dont touch it but it was late ..is any problem if i left the screw all the way down?

Kinda sped through the important bits like is it small bearing first then larger one or the other way round? Couldn't see. But your light switches and gas bottle got plenty of time.

Dude your video is useless. You waste time on that heater. You don't explain what your doing. Its not helpful at all.

That was a waste of time for you and me both. Just research a bit here on KZbin or eBay to find out your 'U-Cup Seal' needed replacement. Didn't have to bother with a complete disassembly just remove and get inside the reservoir to only replace one part, the U-cup seal, about a $15 dollar part. Of course your floor jack eventually completely failed because the U-cup seal was already failing and wearing out. BTW, jack oil-stop leak would not fix a worn out U-cup seal.

Awesome Craftsman floor jack repair. I have the same floor jack. I mistakenly removed the factory set bleeder screw to inspect and I forgot how to re-install the screw to the correct setting. Please advise on how I may set that screw to make the jack function prperly

I'm feelin what Jettpro said, basically any rube should know how to turn on the lights and start and area heater but thx for the refresher on that. You failed on how to provide any insight into the rebuild of the hydro cylinder and the step through on seal replacement. The "Evelyn Woodhead- speed video on how to install the casters and all was pretty worthless as well (simple major items assy) that the jack still leaks down basic ally says "FAIL". 'Nuff said. Sorry bro'. not a great video at all.

Any idea how old that jack is? I look to have the same one that I inherited from my grandfather who has had that as long as I can recall & I'm 45. He is the one that got me started wrenching so it's important to me to try to keep it maintained so I can pass it on to one of my kids or eventually grandkids. He was a Craftsman purist (back when they actually made all their tools & made them in the USA).

I took my jack apart and on the power unit deal three bbs came out dont really know how they go back in they all different sizes

My dad took the do not adjust screw out thinking that was the fill screw. He noticed after he put the red cap back on it said do not adjust. I found a spring ball bearing & a little thing that looks like a tiny bolt, stuck to the oily grime. I have no clue if that was all or how it goes back in, any suggestions? Thanks

There’s several check valves, ball, spring, and screw, hard to exactly we’re it goes.
