Hi Kimmy! I just wanted to tell you the card system originated back in 1977 in a book called “Sidetracked Home Executives” by Pam Young and Peggy Jones. When I was a young Mom in the 1980’s I found their books and started the cardfile system. It was fantastic and really taught me how to be organized! They wrote several great books! 😊 Another great author is Daryl Hoole! She a member of our church and wrote books on organizing way back when. I found hers and ordered them from eBay. They are SO cute and fun to read! I love seeing how women organized back in the day! ❤️

I did this for my kiddos. My friends thought I was being a bit extra. But I explained that when you get a job they usually give you a list of your job description. Plus my oldest has high functioning autism and this helps him a ton.
@HeatherNations5 жыл бұрын
Being *smart* is not being extra. When your kids move into their own house and already have housecleaning lists memorized and made into habits they will thank you. 👍
@nancysadewater9645 жыл бұрын
I did this many years ago when my kids were all at home. You might want to hole punch a corner and put all of Zone 1's cards on a loose leaf ring and do the same for each zone. Have a simple hook where the cards are hung when not in use. Having individual cards is an accident waiting to happen- they will go missing, ask me how I know. Good luck with the system- it worked for me with eight kids.

Thank you for sharing this. I’ve had a stroke and my house has gotten a little out of hand. It’s like my brain can’t decide what needs done but I can follow a list. I’m going to try this I think it should help
@ginawhittaker25855 жыл бұрын
I’ve been doing this for a while. I think it’s a great idea for people who get overwhelmed. Sometimes too without the cards detailing everything I feel like I miss doing certain things, so this way you make sure everything gets done.
@ANNtique5 жыл бұрын
I’ve been watching you for years! The easiest way to avoid being overwhelmed with the house is to have less stuff. I know you have been purging stuff but I’d recommend getting rid of even more. Less decor = less time dusting decor. Less items = less time organizing and putting away items. Bringing less items into the house = less things to find homes for/organize. I think you are planning a move in the future. Organize your home as if you were about to list it, knowing potential buyers will want to look in closets and storage areas. Without having a storage unit, what would you do? I also suggest making good use of garage where all that stuff is. Along the wall. A mud room set up for all shoes and coats would keep the entry tidy. Command centre on inside of pantry door to keep school mail and calendars out of sight but easy to look at. The cards are a good idea. It is how I started with flylady instead of using a binder, but the tasks will still be hard with so many things in the house. I recommend minimal mom, minimom, for inspiration.

This is an awesome idea. I will for sure do this in the fall and winter, in the summer I pretty much give myself a pass on cleaning the inside of the house. It still gets done but I don't do it as often. I'm outside a lot doing yard work. I hope life eases up on you a smidgen. Life is too short to be stressed out (but understandably so when we've got kids) ❤️

I think it's great to switch up your "cleaning system" every once in a while, for me it kinda tricks my mind to make me think I'm doing something new when really I'm doing the same old thing I've been doing for years....cleaning my home....but coming at it from a different approach. Thanks for sharing and I hope it is just what you needed to get your motivation back :) I hope life eases up for you a bit soon too, some parenting seasons are hard hitting but from what I see in your videos you and your husband turn to each other and to the Lord for your strength and I can't think of any better places to turn!

Has anyone else realized that getting some of the decor items out of the home saves time in dusting and in moving things around? I gave away most of the, what I now call “dust catchers” and it has made a world of difference! Also I don’t have as many pillows and other things like that on sofa, chairs, and beds. Makes straightening a room much faster. After about a month, we didn’t even miss any of it.

I can relate. I change up my method for prompts too. I used a spreadsheet for a few years. Then a one page printed dashboard I created. Then switched to an app - Home Routines - which i still use as a reference. I also keep my routines in the notes app in my phone - but that’s mostly so i can cut and paste them into a FlyLady group on FB when we work together. This year i put my Zone lists in my bullet journal with columns for each month to remind me to do certain quarterly tasks and spread out the rotation so I’m not doing all the things in the same month. Then in my spread for my weekly plan in my bullet journal - i track my tasks for the zone of the week. When i really need motivation... i create a Bingo Card - with my tasks mixed with things like drink water, read for 15 minutes, walk for 15 minutes, sit outside for 10 minutes, list 3 things I’m grateful for, name 1 bright spot in my day, etc. i can duplicate task - for example - walk 15 minutes is usually listed twice, I can play it for one day only, or all week and give myself a treat for each bingo or go for a blackout and give myself a bigger treat. Make it 25 squares or 16 or even 9. My game. My rules.

I LOVE this idea!! I'm going through the baby steps right now with The Secret Slob and it's really helping me. I never got my zones down at all or routines down. I started my control journal, but like you said, its overwhelming when you think of everything you have to do. If I just pick one card a day, that is something that is manageable. When I'm done with the baby steps, I'm totally going to make these cards!

I have a Control Journal with lists done by Weekly and Zone cleaning. I wanted to check off each accomplished task, but did not want to use a dry eraser . Another KZbinr , “ Plans Meet Paper “ had a great idea that I shall share. She buys clear sticky notes from Amazon and then cuts them into vertical strips and places a clear strip beside each list of tasks. She then marks the strip as each task is accomplished and then removes the strips when the Week or Zone tasks have all been completed for that time period. I was all ready to do a card system like you have it, but I already had the lists written out in my Control Journal.

Kimmie, you house always looks great. Yes every home gets messed up, after all you have a family that lives in it. My mother had 6 kids, her parent plus, of course, Dad and herself living all in one house. Now that is very overwhelming. We all grew up helping her as much as our day allowed, with school and sports. You are doing a great job of keeping your home clean, home cooked meals on the table, attending sporting events for your kids, etc. life gets messy and we all have to deal with it. I was just gone for 4 nights watching a special needs little boy who has Cerebral Palsy. I have been in his life since 18 months old and he is going to be turning 8 in a month. When I first started watching him he could not talk and just this year he began speaking. His grandparents have custody of him. It is a sheer pleasure to stay with him while they have a few days off. But to get back to when I left my house, I came home to a house with a sink full of dirty dishes, floors unswept, dirty laundry, etc. I immediately empty the dishwasher, refilled the dishwasher, made our bed, and swept all the floors. Needless to say, I still had my little guy spending the night at my house, which he loves to do. Next day, hubby left for most of the day as Memorial Day is coming up and he mows the family cemetery down in KY. I prepared dinner which my little guy asked for, did 6 loads of laundry, cleaned up the kitchen and I was completely done. I did not sleep good while I was gone but I have insomnia and I never sleep really good. But I do as much as I can while I have the get up and go and hope it doesn't leave me before I feel accomplished. I am 65 years old and I can only do so much. I know it will get done eventually. I also keep my 6 month old grandson who weighs 22 1/2 lbs. he is my joy, of course, but when he is here, that is enough. My arms are limp noodles at the end of the day. He is 'Nanny's chunky monkey". I loved every Him so much but I love all 4 of my grandkids. He is the first grandchild that we have living close and get to see weekly. The rest live far away. Do not be so hard on yourself. You always juggled too many balls in the air as a stay at home wife, vlogger, wife, mother, friend, etc. We all do. You, my friend are no different. Hang in there! We know you are a very hard worker! Love you!

It sounds like a great system. Enlist your kids as often as possible ( they will run their own homes soon enough.....don’t be like the Mom who did everything and her kids don’t know how to warm up a can of soup!) Take a picture of each card Incase one “suspiciously gets lost” ( kids not putting them back) then you can quickly recreate them without struggling to remember what was on your list.

I do this. But mine is typed out on color card stock, regular paper size. I then put it in those clear plastic notebook selves. I have one for my "daily cleaning list" and each of my zones has it's own page. I keep them in a note book. But I used to use a clipboard. It worked well too. I could hang it my closet. With Flylady the zone cleaning is suppose to take place throughout the week. About 15 - 20 minutes a day. Lessening the stress.
