Also you can get socks that have toes shaped. So that way it will be less funky smelling so soon, so you can wear them longer with less cleanings/smell.

Machine wash is good too, 5 years old blue KSO still perfect (works on the bikila and trek sport without apparent degradation by the machine). Machine wash at 30/40celcius, once a week if you wear them a lot (still need the vinegar if you do not wahs them regularly). If your machine is unforgivable (torn underwears or such), put them in a cloth bag but pre-wash them to remove dirt/grass. Pre wash is necessary if really dirty. Just hang them for air dry.

I've tried washing my V-Alphas (and the others I've been gifted, model unknown) in the dishwasher, and the washing machine with enzymatic detergent - neither have really touched the smell in the footbed. I just took them out of the washer, and now they just smell extra wet and funky. I'm going to soak them tonight with vinegar and hopefully be able to wear them next week on vacation. They are daily wears for me, and I grew up wearing boots daily. Now, if I can't "feel" the ground, I can barely walk - these are medical necessity for balance and mobility, so I'm looking forward to not having stinky footwear. Thanks for sharing!

The key is to make sure they completely dry after a cleaning. I wash mine in the shower once a week. I just put them in the shower when I get in get them wet, soak in dawn anti bacterial, give a good scrub with hands to lather the soap well, rinse of and let air dry. Toe socks will help too.

Same situation. My Bikila LS's have had a nasty funk for months, even fresh out of the washer. Just put them in to soak overnight, will see how it goes. :)

Washing them often would probably help deteriorate them light years faster. Question: How often do you wash your everyday at work/casual shoes? Probably not that often because more than likely you wear socks. Well, I bought me some toe socks and I NEVER EVER HAD THE FUNK of the Fivefingers....NEVER! I've been wearing them for 2 years now. The only time that I wash them is when the outer appearance physically looks dirty. My toe socks are very thin. Good vid tho!!

Vinegar and citrus may also be a good combination. Today I had oxiclean and use that just with my hands. I then let them fully dry in the sun then by a fan. Last time I did not let them dry and it was even worse than before.

Wash em' in the shower then soak em' in Mr. Clean or Gain Antibacterial concentrated spray/wash 1 part water 1 part cleaning solution over night, dry em...works for me.
