THANK YOU!!! This worked perfectly on my Rowenta DW-2070 with it's stainless steel plate that has about 300 tiny steam holes in it. I thought for sure it was ruined. I tried this tip and was thoroughly impressed how well the dryer sheets took off all the glue and left the plate smooth, clean and as shiny as when the iron was new!! I did have to use 3 sheets on mine, but who cares!! The Rowenta has a highly polished SS plate and it irons so well because of the smoothness of the finish, so that is why I was so worried it was ruined when I got the glue on it. Truly, I am so glad I found your tip and again, thank you so much for sharing it with us!!

Wow and thank you so much .. I did just as you said somehow touched a scrap of fusible webbing with my iron, the good iron I had finally splurged decent money on to replace the cheap but practically useless $15 college days iron I'd had for over 40 years . I never thought an effective iron could bring such joy but it's amazing how it can really make a project look more professional, so I was very dissapoointed. Your tip worked like a charm . I tried a dye and perfume free sheet first and it was somewhat working, when I tried the regular sheet the sticky stuff came right off! So nice when a tip like this actually works and this is non abrasive so saves a Teflon finish from scratches. Thanks again

BEST. TIP. EVER. I had a couple of spots where I got interfacing glue on my iron. Wasn't causing a problem, so I figured I'd clean it eventually. Then today, I was making double fold binding with waterproof canvas. Well, the canvas separated and I got the waterproofing on my iron in a large spot. Tried Magic eraser, simple green and goo gone and nothing worked. Then I saw this video and, voila! Had to use a few dryer sheets and take my fingers into my own hands, folded the sheet up several times, and wiped quickly on the little remaining spots (don't recommend this. You have to be really fast) and now my iron looks like new. I wouldn't have believed it if I'd not seen it myself. Took less than 5 minutes. Never using anything else, especially the expensive cleaners, to clean my iron. Thanks SO much for posting this!!!! Brilliant. Bonus ... my house now smells like fresh laundry :)

I accidently touched the iron-on with my iron but almost immediately realized it so it wasn't too awful. The iron cleaner I bought is in my sewing room. Somewhere. So I came looking for solutions and found you. I recently had a mouse and heard that Bounce dryer sheets would repel them. But the cinnamon worked so the sheets were looking for a new job. They found it. I felt like I worked at it a little more than you but my iron is shiny clean now. Thank you.

Oh my gosh this worked so well. I was trying to do an iron on transfer and didn’t realize what happened until I turned the iron over. I was ironing the transfer upside down. The sticky paper was stuck to the iron. Didn’t know what to do so I looked it up. Found this trick & tried it immediately. Worked great. I balled a fabric softener sheet and rubbed it over the iron. A follow-up on yesterday's comment. The dryer sheets (4) worked to clean my iron. I later managed to get More gunk (interfacing? polyester?) on my iron that the sheets wouldn't remove. But the real problem was with the chemicals of a total 7 dryer sheets atomized into the air of my sewing rom, I started to get really ill - headache, nausea, confusion... 24 hours later I am still getting this out of my system. So just a heads up that if you're sensitive to chemicals (I am the 'canary in the coal mine") you should consider another method for cleaning your iron. I stopped using these sheets years ago when I heard they could be toxic to pets. Looks like they're toxic for me too!
@BeautifulThingscraftandsewing9 ай бұрын
Oh gosh I'm sorry to hear this. I only use them on freshly melted gunk and 1 now and again. I don't think this is a solution for cleaning off old gunk or melted items for sure. Good to know though, I hope you feel better soon.

Wow! That is amazing! Thanks for a great tip. I always wonder who comes up with this stuff. Like, who first thought, "Oh, no! I've burnt interfacing glue onto my iron! What will I do???? I wonder if ironing a dryer sheet will take it off?" I make note cards and invitations using decorative paper napkins, card stock, and plastic wrap. There are occasional accidents with the plastic wrap and the iron. I'm going to see if this works on that, too. Thanks again!

Usually when you buy appliques, on the bolt, or within the instructions as with any kind of fabric, it tells you how to clean it. With applique it says not to use fabric softener otherwise your applique will peel off~

Wow, thank you for this great tip! With my brand new iron, in a rush, missed a step and gluey iron plate as a result! Blast it all!!! Then, I find you straight off on KZbin and viola!! Thank you thank you thank you! It's Thanksgiving this week here in the States and right now, you're leading my list of things for which I am thankful! 😉 One bit of caution I would put out there, I used a sheet brand called "Bounce" and a bit of warning to anyone using this brand is HOLD YOUR BREATH while dragging the iron across the sheet and don't have your face over your work!!!! The fragrance coming off that sheet will knock you over!!!! Ughhh! 😖 No kidding, it burned my lungs! Next time (if there is a next time!) I think I'll try a USED sheet first. There may be enough residual chemical left to work well enough! These used sheets are also great as an embroidery interface on t-shirts or quilt cotton when making patches for appliques! As long as they're around, may as well re-use and re-purpose! Thanks again!!

@@BeautifulThingscraftandsewing I couldn't believe how easy it was to remove. I was ready to mix baking soda and white vinegar into a paste 😱🤔☹️ when I saw your information on KZbin. You saved me the aggravation of removing that gunk from the face plate. I subscribed to your website as you demonstrated how to sew scraps together with a French stitch. This is perfect. I have so many scraps now I know what to do with them. Many thanks....be safe....Pam

Ill have to try this. I have some interfacing that stuck on to my iron as it was too hot and kind of melted the interfacing even though it was the right way round 😩 so will give this a go 😊
