Ok... Second comment here but that's so funny when you spoke about Gretel your cat.... Spike (my cat) is a male and is just obsessed when I do any ritual on the full moon. He always chill beside me and he's so relax everytime he fell asleep. But when i do something with my deiity (a male deity) he prefer to hang out with the kids like "ok guys, I got ya !"

No my cats have to always have access to my bedroom because their food and litter is in an area that is connected to my bedroom. But they are usually very respectful of my altars. Sometimes they steal a feather or something haha but I put all my altars that they would be most interested in up high. My cats like to sleep/lay on my altar a lot too so I never kick them off of it. But if you have rude kitties haha you can definitely train them to stay off the altar.
