Here's another idea, too. Run your warm iron on new dryer sheet. Amazing what comes off. Though sometimes I have to resort to your method when too far gone. I would use a dish rag v a Kleenex for a more robust base for the the paste and cleaning.

That's a great idea! I have heard that the dryer sheets are a really good idea but I have allergies to them. The dish rag would have worked better too! LOL, Thank you for watching and supporting our little channel!

I just found your channel through a comment you left on another channel - that I just found! LOL I don't know if this will work on my iron but I'll try it. I use the steam feature a LOT on my iron. I don't usually quilt (except little stuff like making a patchwork purse or something), and I didn't even know steaming would stretch the fabric. Duh..you would think I would know that at this stage in life. LOL

That was interesting. I do use steam, on a low setting, and it works for me. I was pressing some parts of potato chip#2 today, so it's a recent memory. LOL Even with using occasional adhesive backings and interfacings, I don't get that kind of stuff on the bottom of my iron, and now I'm wondering why. I don't use starch, but I do use a product called Flatter to spray my finished blocks. It gets wrinkles out of fabric really well, too, and I dilute it 50-50 with water. When the bottom gets sticky, I do use an iron cleaner, but I don't use one tube in two years or more. I have also run the iron over used dryer sheets, and that got the sticky off, also. I was thinking that if you used dryer sheets, it might make a better wiper than the Kleenex. Maybe?

Hi Dezertsky! I don't put water into my irons and they last for years and years. This stuff on my iron was from a year of ironing grey goods (fabric). I do use starch and I spray water on to my fabric. I hope you have a fabulous weekend. Thanks for watching and your support!

@@conqueringmountscrapmorewi2509 I remember you saying you don't put water in them. I like a heavy iron, so I buy Black & Decker irons, and they still last a long time. Enjoyed starting an Alt. 1 Potato Chip this week.

Will it work if it’s burned fabric? Clothes?
@conqueringmountscrapmorewi25092 жыл бұрын
Hi Dora! I'm happy that you liked this older video. If your iron is burning clothes, the thermostat inside is broken and this causes your iron to over heat. This iron cleaning video is only for cleaning the dirt marks off the iron plate with a low scrub cleaning agent that most people have in their homes. I hope you have a lovely week ahead! Thank you for watching and supporting our little channel.

What if you add water to your iron? how would you clean it? same way?
@conqueringmountscrapmorewi25097 ай бұрын
Hello 100hispano! I'm happy that you liked our video. I don't add water to my irons because it reduces the life of the iron. The next Psychedelic Snowflake quilt video will drop on May 1 and it is going to be a free sew along. I hope you have a cheerful week ahead! Why not add water to "push" out the baking soda?
@conqueringmountscrapmorewi25092 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie! I'm glad you liked this video. I don't add water to my irons and I think that makes them last a whole lot longer in the end. You could also wipe the iron with a wet cloth to remove any extra baking soda. Thanks for watching and supporting our little channel.
