I work at the container store and the thing you were wondering about is a storage bench! People put them in their entryways or mudrooms so they can sit on them to take their shoes or scarves off and then store them inside! Some people have used them for their dog stuff like leashes and harnesses and poop bags and you can put shorter umbrellas in them! Really anything you can think of lol
