It was not possible to pair the robot with the Android app. After connecting with Miele and the robot's wifi, the app just wouldn't proceed. Hence, the robot was returned to Miele for repair.
The Miele repair shop found that the bumper and a sensor had a malfunction and exchanged these parts. However, they were unable to conclude on the pairing malfunction. They returned the robot with hardware repairs only.
Now that the robot is back, it will not even activate its wifi, as seen in this video.
Excepted behavior for robot with activated wifi:
1. Switch robot on an have it boot.
2. See the wifi LED flash.
3. Wait a few seconds for the wifi LED to be continuously on.
4. Then connect the smartphone to the wifi network announced by the robot. The app does this in the background.
Forced activation of wifi as described in the manual and demonstrated in this video:
a) Push the wifi button on the remote.
b) Optionally, push the home button on the robot for more than two seconds.
Actual behavior of the robot in its current state:
1. The wifi LED flashes for exactly one minute.
2. The display is completely switched off.
3. No wifi network is announced. Wifi is off.
The robot uses a USB wifi module hidden inside. The module was removed and put back in place. This however did not help resolve the issue.
To speculate, the communication software-hardware co-design of Miele's Scout RX2 is not mature. Too bad, that you can only make use of the robot's advanced options if you have it paired with their app.
