Long time fan of the channel ... just had an idea while watching the prop removal ... why not 3D print insert plugs to stick into the Allen head bolts on the props to prevent growth from filling the bolt holes? It might save you some real aggravation if a barnacle decides to make a home inside of one of the bolt holes!!!

My grandmother was living alone (granddad passed) well into her 90s, she used to walk 1km up the beach and swim 1km back everyday summer and winter (Australia but still cold) along with tending to a large garden, she moved into a home at 93 when she got diagnosed with dementia. Once she lost her freedom she was dead in 8 months, sad to see her fall away so quick

You casting Seeker's propeller blades is what started me watching this channel. I was going through and watching metal casting videos about bronze casting and the blades were suggested. The shape was really complex and looked difficult to cast from what I know at the time, so I clicked. Then I found out that the boat you were working on was not in some marina on the coast and it was a lot bigger of a project than I was expecting. That got me into also watching Tally Ho being rebuilt and a couple of other nautical channels that have taught me a lot about how brutal an environment the ocean is for materials and people. Making a boat out of fiberglass now just sounds like suicide with its properties. Wood has better resistances to falling apart under those conditions when it's the right kind and maintained correctly. Steel is even better and with modern coatings is definitely the right choice for any vessel that isn't really concerned about hull weight.

If the weld looks like a fat worm, you need to slow down your wire feed speed. You'll use less wire and grind a lot less. Recommended settings for welders are just a starting point. You gotta experiment and not be afraid to mess with your settings. If at all possible, get your settings dialed in on a piece of scrap, then move on to the project. Good job with all your endeavors!

for the supports: there is a setting called "manual supports" or "support enforcers only" it lets you paint the model with L & R clicks where you specifically want supports and where you don't want them, very handy when you have a steep overhang that needs it but sloping sides that don't really. also, when you have a very flat overhang, I find the easiest way to remove them is to get a small snap blade and slice down right through the interface layer, go on both sides and the supports will pull right out. for that model specifcally I would reccomend redesgning it so it can print on its long side, this has 2 benefits: 1) the part will be stronger in the critical directions, as 3d printed parts are weakest in Z 2) it will print faster! layer height is the biggest factor in terms of time for a print, so always try to make your parts wider and deeper instead of taller if possible.

Man, taking those sharp steel scrapers to the paint seems like asking for trouble. But I've never never had a boat, so what do I know. I would assume that taking the boat up a river once in a while would help kill all the saltwater critters that are growing down there. I know the hard stuff won't fall off even if it dies, but at least it would stop it from growing.

You know, most ships bells are rigid and have a lanyard hanging from the clapper that you can make fast so you only ring it when you need to. You have all the fixin's on board to modify that. Make a rigid connection from the arm on the pivot to the bell mount. Drill and tap the clapper lower end and put a screw eye in it. Run a bungie cord to the bottom of the clapper to securing point somewhere below the bell. Well, just my $.02....

If you’re weighing the blades before you switch them out, I’d be interested in knowing how much material is lost each time you refinish them and how many years it’ll be until they potentially need replacing

I’m working on repairing an old army trailer and having a horrible problem with sputtering and the wire actually pushing back on the handle. I’ve checked my gas, my ground, and replaced expendables. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

I found the problem. I had a bad ground cable. I welded about 1/4 inch and looked over and the cable insulation was smoking and melted. Just put on a new cable and new clamp. Welds are totally smooth and good looking. Thanks
