Evan, before you go thru the work of remanning the hay spear play around with the top link geometry a little to see if will do what you want. ie. shorten the top link or change the pin location to a different hole on the tractor. It might be enough. You may have done that off camera but if not give it a shot. Looks great and got the job done as is so not a failure at all.

Evan, you took care of the tree in the road like I would: get out there, do a little community service, and do it yourself, and not sit around and wait for the township or county maintenance to do it. That's how things are supposed to get done in rural communities. Thank you for doing it, and for showing it on your video!

Just a piece of advice on the sheep hay feeder you might want to get a sheep panel or one with small holes to line the feeder with. It will keep them from pulling hay out and wasting it. And also when they lamb be careful about putting hay in the feeder the sheep will lay under it where it is warm and smush there lambs. Not telling you what to do but just a few things we have learned while raising sheep. Always enjoy the videos.

This year in our area every one is getting 30% off the field. A friend usually gets 200 rounds this year they had 67. So I ended up buying a flat of hay cubes. It should keep my animals over winter and I did get a few rounds ( 3 ) so I can give them some hay bags to keep them busy between feeding. I only have a horse a mini horse and a goat. The goat will get pelleted feed. I nursed an old horse on hay cubes over winter so it should be fine. I'll need to get a heated bucket for very cold days. We do get -35c or less. Will be an interesting year ;) I'm hoping to find a second cut and get a few more, but my petting zoo isn't high on any ones list, & I get that. Some ones lively hood is more important for sure. I can do buckets of slop ;) My winter area is right out my back door lol

Hey Evan, let me start off by saying that i have never done any hay baling, but go back and watch your video at the time that you use the rear spear, the bale moves and the front leading side of the bale turns upwards as the spear enters. may i suggest that as you get ready to spear the bales that you move 2 bales flat end to flat end and spear the first bale with the rear spear, as the second bale keeps the first one from moving. then turn around and spear the second bale with the front end of your tractor spear. looks to me as you just need something to hold the bale in place to use the rear spear. nice welding by the way. jim in central florida

I had the same problems with my factory hay spear. It pointed up too much when it was down and down to much when raised. I bought a hydraulic top link and that solved my problem. I have found the spear goes in better if pointed just slighty down when going into the bale then I use the hydraulic top link to point the spear slightly up when raised to keep the bale from sliding off if going up hill. That has been one of my best investments.

The top link end that attaches to the tractor usually has three positions. Looking at the rear of your tractor,It appears that there is a lower position. You could see if that makes a difference. I thought your rear spear looked like it would work. It could be the cores of your bales are very soft.

An Hydraulic top link may be a good idea. I don't think the problem is in the design of your hay spear. Look at your video. Friction of your hay spear going in caused the hay bale to tilt back. did you lower the hay spear as far as it would go when you pushed the spear into the bale? If not you could try to lower the hay spear lowering the hay spear to reduce the tendency of the bale to tilt.
