Incredible job. When I was younger, my parents bought a house from a man who smoked a pipe...my mom thought the doorknobs were brass. It turned out that they were crystal. They were so covered in nicotine my dad removed them from the door so mom could properly clean them. Again, you do a terrific job.

My dad bought a house to rent out and we thought the rooms were all painted a sickly yellow color. When we started washing and prepping the walls for paint, we discovered that they were not! That nicotine staining is sticky! Every day, my dad dropped my sister and I off to work all day while he went to his job. One day, the neighbor came by and pointed out a big stain in the living room carpet where the previous owner had fallen and had a massive, fatal hemmorage! 👀

My husband is a painting contractor. He puts a special additive in the paint before painting, and no one can ever tell there was a smoker in that apartment (provided, of course, that they remove the carpet before re-renting) and do a deep clean. I used to be a smoker. When I cleaned it before I moved out-of-state, I was horrified! You're right. It permeates fabrics, carpeting and walls. Not to mention clothing and hair. Nasty and expensive habit, especially the last several years. It was like a new world when I finally quit in 2014.

There's more to this than heavy smoking. Just the filthy trash is not from being a heavy smoker. It's more what you find in hoarding situations. My grandmother, my mom's mother, was a heavy smoker, and she kept her place spotless. You'd never even known she even smoked on how well she kept her home.

My landlord just dealt with a similar apartment. It was so bad that before the guy left, when you walked by the apartment you could smell it. They ended up washing the walls twice, then putting a sealer on them and new paint, new flooring, and appliances. They still had to leave it sitting for 2 weeks after with bowls of vinegar sitting in each room.

these bathrooms seem much more sensible than the ones we have in Canada - nice shower and tiles on the floor, maybe even the washing machine in there, our bathrooms usually still have bathtubs, no storage and regular floors (like kitchens), the drain in the floor makes more sense to me
