Hello! Is there a way to tell when a mantle or pieces within it are too far gone and need replaced? Im not as interested in running my uranium glass lamp as i am making it look nice again, but running it would be very fun

When you have as many as me, you can polish some and keep some original. Good excuse to buy more.

I need your input.....I have been collecting Aladdin lamps now for over 60 years. Lately, I have noticed that the galleries have hairline cracks in them. I treat them well. Was wondering what your thoughts may be.

They had some brass annealing issues with certain burners over the years. Sometimes it takes years for them to appear. If they start falling apart, then it’s time to retire them. Cheers

Great video. Thanks. I have a nickel B burner and used heavy duty over cleaner on the outer wick tube to remove STUBBORN deposits. It did work, but now, the section with the holes has yellowish tinge. The tube itself is not yellow probably because it's not nickel plated brass. Oh well- live and learn. Also, inside the basket bottom has rough white slightly green deposits. Briefly soaked in a 1/2" of 50/50 white vinegar/water which helped, but it's still dirty. I definitely need to get some steel wool for that.

Great video, but I'm lazy I just put it in my sonic cleaner with my clock cleaning solution and let run for 10 to 15 min. They come out spotless. Also works for my 2150 carb.

The one I just bought (a model B burner) had a wick so gummed out I had to first unstick the outer wick tube then I had to tear the wick apart. Loads of gum on the inner tube, and the fire spreader was stuck; had to heat it up to unstick it. Luckily all parts are salvaged, I just need to clean them up now.

I just got one with a stuck wick. How did you heat it to loosen it up?

Yes,the bad patina. These were sold with a satin brass finish and when’s it’s brown and green it looks like hell. A patina has to look nice to appreciate. I leave old lamps alone when they have an original finish. Aladdin are a workhorse lamp. I like my lamps and horses that use clean and ready to use. Cheers

Would using polishing media in tumbler work as Its gentle and will clean up brass very well and polish.

I did try a 10 pound tumbler with crushed walnuts and some comet cleanser. It didn’t work after hours on carbon build up. I found the shells got lodged in burner holes and such. Maybe a different media might work. Cheers

I have a mint Model 9 but the wick takes a lot of effort to raise and I am scared to damage the gears. I cleaned the Wick Riser Tube and installed a brand new wick and the wick goes up and down very easily until I install the Wick Riser Tube, after that it takes a lot of effort so something is not right but I am not sure why. Any idea?

Usually this is caused by worn gears. Check to see if the wick raiser tabs are seated and not rubbing inside the outer wick tube. I guess the good news is that model 9 are fairly easy to find replacement parts. Good luck. Cheers

Yes, they are. I find old gummed up burners and use oven cleaner and they look new. If the lamp is really old with nickel plate loss,brass will polish up. Less maintenance yes. Cheers

Not 100% sure. They are remaking the originals. It was originally designed for a model B brass font shelf lamp. The new ones that Aladdin sold used a 23 round font. Sorry I don’t have that lamp to compare to. I would ask them to tell you vase ID first to be safe. Cheers.

@@Kerosenecanada ok thank you. Real quick story. I got interested in kerosene lamps 6 months before hurricane sandy hit. I bought 8 lamps from Ebay and restored them to working order the summer before Sandy plus 1 Aladdin kerosene heater. Those lamps and heater kept us warm and the house lite for a week we lost power. Now I'm getting back into them. Not sure what it means. But they saved the day. Thanks for your KZbin channel. Aladdin Lamps are functional and pleasing to the eye. And I love the smell. Lol. Normally I have them in stock with mantles. The US distributor has been sold out of mantles all year. Next year when they have inventory, I will drive down and stock up. Crown Place Brands is the company, there is a list of distributors, you will have to try them. Cheers

You can but Vinegar is an acid and will eat away the Zinc in the brass leaving you with a copper finished burner. You can polish off the copper, but I find it more work in the long run. Cheers
