My cousin has this laptop and she literally has no programs installed on it or any files and it's 99% full. It makes it inoperable. You can't do anything on it! I need to free up 8GB of space so that my laptop can install the windows 10 ISO to my new computer. After doing this method, 2GB was freed up from the disk cleaner, and another 1.5GB was cleared from deleting one of the Microsoft Office folders in Program Files. I've done everything and still don't have enough space to do the upgrade. There is nothing on my computer except the basic system and I can't upgrade it. I'm so pissed off. I'm considering obtaining a lawyer. If they are going to sell products that will be obsolete before the warrantee is even out then why aren't they required to put warning labels on these products that warn you of this. Always do your research before buying any computer. And also to get just a decent editing or productive laptop you need at least around 700$. And even with a 700$ laptop rendering will take HOURS.

The HP Stream is supposed to be designed for cloud computing but the lack of memory on there does not allow me to do anything in a reasonable time-frame or without interruption. Even editing simple text documents on Chrome with Google Docs or on Microsoft Teams crashes every 10-15 mins. I can’t have more than 2 tabs open in my browser at all and I definitely can’t run more than one app.

Disable 'reserved storage' (frees up ~7GB of space) -open elevated command prompt (administrator command/powershell) -type: DISM /Online /Get-ReservedStorageState to check state. -type: DISM /Online /Set-ReservedStorageState /State:Disabled to disable. (to re-anable, use this command with 'Enabled' at the end instead. 2. Use a MicroSD card as extended storage -winkey + x -Device Manager -Universal Serial Bus Controllers -Open 'Properties' of each device (varies) -Power Management tab -Disable 'Allow computer to turn off this device to save power' This means you can use the card as a semi-permanent secondary drive, but without periodic disconnects if you're downloading files to it.

It’s pretty painfully slow standard. But if you disable a lot of win 10 crap, background running apps, stuff that hogs resources, and then set the performance to maximum battery settings, processor minimum and maximum to 100% etc, it’s pretty impressive/decent at 2.5Ghz constant. Worst part in the end is the 32GB memory.

There are people who do not know much about computers . I am one of them who was taken when I purchased this HP stream labtop. I also agree why would a computer company put out a computer where you can't get updates or download the latest version of chrome or any other latest version browser that is needed. At least I did learn not to buy another hp stream laptop with 32GB storage. HP got over on its customers with this particular labtop.

You're absolutely right Brenda, these computers with 32GB storage simply aren't fit-for-purpose. To be fair to HP, most of the mainstream manufacturers put systems out with similar storage. (There is a market for cheap). Even now we still see systems being released with 64GB storage which still isn't enough. Anyone reading this, if buying a new laptop - minimum 120GB SSD storage. Nothing less, otherwise you'll be chasing your tail freeing up space.

In my opinion, computers with 32GB storage are not "fit for purpose". You will have a constant battle on your hands keeping enough space to install updates. Spend slightly more, minimum internal storage advised is 120GB. (in my opinion).

This is great information if I hadn't already known and don't this. You can add more space the only downside you’ll have to take out the WiFi card inside the comp cause that’s the only slot available which stupid you should’ve been allowed to expand your memory at least. Anyways you’ll have to get a ssd stick and insert in there you’ll have to get WiFi USB adapter to able to get internet

A good point J. I have carried out this job for a customer a while back. (Although I tried to persuade them against spending any more money on this). Dreadful though that a manufacturer brings out a model that requires hardware upgrades simply to stay up to date with the OS that it comes with. On this thread we do give HP a bad time but tbh all manufacturers have low-end notebooks with similar storage spec.

Here is a quick and easy solution. so my laptop has 32 GB of storage and luckily my laptop had a slot for a SSD. So I installed a SSD and copied my files from my c drive to a usb and installed windows to the SSD and it works perfectly fine. To do this you will have to chane the boot order in the bios.

Best thing to do with the Stream 14, is to install an 8gb ram module, and run a light, Linux distro on it. My Grand daughter has one I installed, Linux Mint MATE on, and there's enough space for O/S, her programs, data, and room to spare. They're REALLY CRAPPY Windows machines, but very compatible with Linux.

With these units, adding more internal storage isn't an option. This is why I argue that these machines aren't fit for purpose. There may be a Micro-SD card slot to add storage for keeping extra files. But never trust SD cards for long term storage of stuff. Good luck.

I have a windows 10...go to your windows icon in the bottom left corner...type in disk cleanup...hit that button at the top...check all files to delete...then hit ok...then go to clean up system files...click all those...hit ok to free up more space. You may have to carry out a clean install. If your computer is the HP Stream you may need to have a mouse as the touchpad won't work until the IO driver is installed.

If I click the 'one drive' in this - will that delete all my files that are on the laptop, not affecting whats saved on the cloud?

On mine I can no longer access the camera, edge and other stuff like the app store, it just dissapered one day, and the fact that I haven't updated my windows software in about 2 years, actually I don't think I have updated it since I got it about 4 years ago

You see on the 4:15 mark, where there is a box you can check that's labeled: WINDOWS UPDATE CLEANUP 5.39GB? Yeah. That option isn't actually there on mine. What it is, they want these inexpensive machines to crash so you will be forced to buy another. Period.

I got one of these and I can’t update to the latest update because I need 8GB of available space. The biggest program I have is google chrome.

I just wanted to factory reset my computer but it takes 6g which makes no sense

I agree so much with that it’s crazy how when you need to reset you computer you need more space when it’s already hard to get more space

My computer is a 32 GB storage Asus laptop and I only have been able to free up 2 gb space. I literally have nothing on my computer except a CCleaner and win 10 itself. Can somebody help please? I don't know what is eating up my space or how to free more space to update my windows 10. And everytime I try to install something on my computer, it asks to update my windows.

You'd have problems with Windows activation. Only Windows Professional versions can be downgraded.
