I did DMT when I was 17 while I was secretly very suicidal, and my mom seemed to be slowly dying of cancer at the time. The experience literally saved my life by preventing me from suicide. To this day, DMT is the most impactful and extraordinary experience that I’ve ever had. It was extremely beneficially impactful in many different ways. I had never, and have still never done any other psychedelics.

Back in the early 2000’s pain was dubbed the “5th vital sign”. The standard of care was opiates for chronic pain. There was a ton of pressure put on docs and nurses to make sure patients pain was controlled, as a result there was a ton of opiates prescribed during that period. Opiates are basically contraindicated for chronic pain now

Hi Andy, I had an idea for a guest, I would love to see Shawn Ryan on here, as well as Tony Eafrati- two other team guys I like hearing from. I also had an idea to have a special operations neurologist/neuroscientist/doctor of some sort on the podcast, that is specifically an expert in concussive blasts/TBI/causes/blast trauma, everything related to that. I think it could be helpful to a lot of people, and could raise awareness about the issue even more. great episode today!

It would be great to have some federal law enforcement guys on - specifically some of the guys who served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere (DEA FAST, FBI HRT, etc.). They often worked alongside military special operations units but there’s not much out there on them. It would be great to get their perspectives, especially for people interested in those types off careers.

1:18:40 Yeah, hovering in high winds over a rooftop (or the bow of a ship) with some shitty reference points can be a workout. I can remember my hands almost cramping and just praying for that "ropes away, tail's cleared out" call. Air refueling in a helo can be just as bad, just praying for a good plug and then getting into that Zen state, as Jason called it.

@@JRsmith.JR, they’re 2 guys who had some of the most intense training the US has to offer. These guys have some very special stories and experiences that you and I only dream of. Andy’s guests , coming from all branches of our military, have some of the best conversations that can found. Once it starts, they begin talking and sharing their experiences of Military life. Becoming a Chief or Officer is an unbelievable accomplishment to share. Andy doesn’t boast, nor do his guests, they share a timeline of their service time and the sacrifice to get there. It’s all good bro. You wouldn’t have gotten a response had you not crossed the line. He was shot during war time! Shot. In a war in a foreign country. Yet, he doesn’t speak of that very often. 19:40 "Flesh-Peddlers". God, I hate dealing with the assignments guys when I was in. At one point, I had an opportunity, as a new O-4, to go up to Dam Neck and be the AFSOC LNO after Lando (which was a dream job for me, plus I knew some of the guys up there from working with ST-3 in DJ in 2002). I was told, "Naw, you're too old, we're thinking of a younger guy". So they picked a classmate of mine from the Academy. Same age as me! And he goes up there and embarrasses himself. I'm sure it's the same everywhere, but that was probably when I realized I was getting out at 20....

For the few rude comments about Andy "talking over" guests: I can't speak for Andy, but on talking over people- I'm a NYC native and I see myself unintentionally doing that all the time because by nature we converse that way- it's cultural, and we definitely mean no harm. It's just enthusiasm, and a very hard habit to break when needed. One thing I wonder though, is if Jason's wishes were to talk less during the show. Idk, but he did mention being an introvert, so it's not impossible that Andy was trying to help him out in this case. Todd Fox's episode, however, was a great example of someone more akin to the kind of verbal ping pong required for both parties to have an equal stake in the convo when enthusiastic talkers.
