Thanks for the video. I’m 65 and have always pronounced my L’s from my throat. I became more self conscious of it when I would hear myself on a recording. Your explanation is very clear and easy to practice.

Omg. She’s able to initiate the sound perfectly bc she still has her synapses and I don’t anymore. Her synapses allow her to pronounce it easily while I have to try WAY harder bc I don’t have them anymore :’(
@ClearEnglishCorner6 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by "synapses" here?
@glendasworld41256 жыл бұрын
Everyone learns by rewiring our brains. As we learn, we make new connections between neruons. Neurons are connected to each other through synapses. As a kid, your brain has a ton of synapses which gives the brain high neuroplasticty and the ability to learn ANY skill effortlessly without even trying. The brain of a kid is like a sponge. It absorbs EVERYTHING from the environement and can adapt to any change very easily as long as it is exposed to it. During childhood, synapses pruning occurs. If you are not exposed to something or use a skill enough (like language), the weak connections in each synapsid necessary for learning that skill will be thrown away forever while the other connections you do use get stronger and stronger. Once you start puberty, the neuroplasticity of your brain lowers significantly resulting in the loss of of the many synapses that you did not use in childhood. The brain is more stable and less likely to adapt to the environment now. This makes it harder to learn a skill such a language as an adult than it was as kid. That's why kids are able to learn a language perfectly without trying while grown ups have to do a lot of studying. Kids who learn a language at their age, they do so without a foreign accent while the grown ups do. Have you noticed that? It's ALWAYS like that. Kids have about twice as many synapsids in the brain as an adult would giving them an easier time for learning. I'm assuming you learned English as a kid. So the reason why you're able to make all the American sounds perfectly is because the synapsids required for that language never sheded away and you still have them while I don't. I clearly don't because I'm 19, started to learn this language since the age of 11, and still have a foreign accent. My accent won't change no matter how long I have been exposed to English unless I really try hard and put a lot of work in. I hope you understand what I mean by synapsids and you having an easier time to make all the sounds perfectly. Sorry for the long comment. Since it makes me really sad that I don't have an American accent and did not acquire one as children do, I did a ton of research about it. I wanted to know why kids are able to pick it up easily while adults like me can't. @Clear English Corner with Keenyn Rhode
@ClearEnglishCorner6 жыл бұрын
Yes, Glenda's World! I loved learning about neuroplasticity, neurons, synapses, etc in school- absolutely fascinating. Yes, it is very difficult to acquire a native sounding accent as an adult language learner. It takes a great deal of deliberate effort. There are definite skills you can develop to speak with greater clarity and impact, though, even if you still have a foreign accent. This is always where I begin when working with a new client...

Hi, Thank you for your video and it helped a lot! I still have issue with the light L sound even with the correct tongue position (behind the upper teeth). It sounds the same as if I don't work with my tongue (have the tongue resting at the bottom) for instance of la, it sounds like a "nla", a mixture of na and la.

@ClearEnglishCorner6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Mazen Algeneral! So glad you are enjoying the lessons! There is not a sequence to follow for the KZbin channel or website at this time, however, I follow a certain sequence with all 1/1 clients. Learn the vowels and word/sentence stress first (watch the 3 part word stress series, this is KEY), fine tune consonants you find difficult, move into practice in reading and conscious speaking. 😊
