I was JUST talking to my mom about needing to clear some brush our cows aren't eating(mostly blackberries) and this video was at the top of my feed when I opened KZbin. I, very recently, found your channel and find it very informative. I will be praying for you in your health journey, we lost my wife's father to cancer last month, he was a goat farmer as well. I subscribed and will be following you, thank you for the great informative videos.

The weed plants are often same origin as the goat breed - genetics. If cattle or horses ate these they would be ill. Goats do it without a problem. Many north American weeds came from Europe and Asia, and so do the goat lines. Weeds arrive before grasses on bare earth, and trees arrive last of all.

My sister bought a 10 acre property that the previous owner had a couple horses on, so the pasture looked like a lawn. Out in the middle was a mound of berry bushes about 5’ tall & at least 20’ around. Well, she brought her 40 head of dairy goats in & they devoured those bushes and uncovered a huge granite outcropping!! Goats are awesome brush clearers, but you better have good fencing
@tireddad6541 Жыл бұрын
And climbing on the granite is good for them. Bonus points....

Love it. My bro pen group is just getting brave enough to explore the entire back 6 acres and there's a 15 foot section all along the back fence that is heavily vegetated. Don't know why I did that when I was first clearing the place, but I've been wanting it cleared for a while now. So, I love seeing the goats back in there. There's only 6 of them, with 4 being just weaned kids, but they're already starting to make a difference

Josh, you look wonderful and so healthy!! How is Audra doing? And the boys? The goats are doing a fabulous job on your land!! I love it! I cannot wait to get out of the State I'm in so that I can get more land and hopefully raise some goats/pigs/ chickens!! I bought my home in July of 2001, so next month will be 22 years in my home and now with all that equity, I can make the move to do this even at my age (60)! My late husband and father to my 2 boys (he passed away 31 years ago) was from West Texas and I went to live there with him for a year and a half over 35 years ago but I literally hated it!! There are far better places in Texas than West Texas for sure and I love a lot of places in Texas, but I could never again live in Odessa or anywhere near there! I'm sorry to the people that may be from Odessa/ Midland if you love it there but it just was not for me... there's literally nothing to do there except drink and I don't like or drink alcohol. I don't want to live in City limits anymore and want more land to stretch out and have a very small farm. I've learned so much from you, Josh and all of the other farming channels that I follow and I'm sure I'll continue to learn on a regular basis. I bet some people would think I'm crazy for wanting to do this at a later stage of life but I believe that it's not too late to start something new if it's God's Will and you have a passion for it! I'm a huge animal lover but in the last several years I have completely and utterly fallen in love with goats and it's because of wonderful people like you and Audra and other channels that I follow! So, do you think I'm nuts for wanting to do this at my age? 🤔 Thank you for the video and God bless you and family! 💜❤❌⭕

@BoisDArcKikos Жыл бұрын
You could put 100 goats on 50 acres easily. Yes a good hot charger will keep them in. Some people use that electric netting.
@madaxe79 Жыл бұрын
@@BoisDArcKikos thanks, I am not gonna buy 100 goats, I was thinking about 10-15. I don’t need the block cleaned up overnight, if they take a few months to get it knocked back and in control, to a state where I can build some fencing and get some cattle in there to keep it tidy, that’s fine. I would probably just do sections a couple of acres at a time.

Cedar trees will not survive if you remove all the green. Larger trees and brush will survive if there are leaves above the goats’ reach, however the goats also strip and eat the bark from smaller trees which will kill them as well.
