Postscript:
This is a cover of "Clearing" from Grouper's Ruins album. I've been fascinated by this song since it came out in 2015 and initially thought of it as a beautiful spur of the moment work recorded on an upright piano and microphone. While being holed up in my sister's apartment in New York during quarantine, I listened to this song more closely and found more of Liz Harris' artistic intention within her performance and production. There were instances where she'd put breaths in between some lines of her verses that could easily be sung in one breath. Elsewhere, I listened to parts where she added a second or third voice to sing at the same time as the main voice but hum/sing a different but similar sounding word. The somber ambience created by this vocal ambiguity and reverberating piano washed over me in its sonic landscape. I tried to keep these thoughtful performance notes in mind for this cover with one of the gentle giants of the Flute family.

It's very simplified but have fun learning all the nuances that Grouper employs :) It's a worthwhile learning experience!
