Not lying, you have to take a souls approach to this, because I got my ass kicked quite a lot, but learned his movesets well for the next attempts. Key is to overpower yourself in Greece by doing many rifts and get all runic attacks for your weapons, unless you want pure skill, don't overpower yourself. This DLC legit fed into my mind of MORE combat that I craved and the difficulty felt sooooo fair but hard at the same time. Legit made the game a 20/10 for me. I'm a BIG souls player and this DLC was absolutely perfect for me

This DLC drilled into my head how important Tÿr’s absence was in Ragnarök. An active, mobile God Of War Tÿr clears like half of the issues presented in the main story with little effort. Now, im not really a music expert, so pardon me. but i've noticed an interesting contrast between Tyr's theme and Baldur's. both soundtracks has the simliar tempo, yet different choice of notes. With Baldur's theme, the notes seem to signifies a broken person and desperation, going for a more depressing decreasing melody, meanwhile Tyr's theme goes for a more motivational increasing melody that signifies wisdom and hope. It's actually cool how noticeable it is.

It's honestly amazing how Týr went from cool Easter egg secret to one of the best boss fights this series has seen in a long time. Don't get me wrong, Thor is awesome, but fighting Týr has a level of thrill not even Thor could invoke. Also I like that the two Gods of war Kratos fought designed him in their own image. Ares shaped Kratos to be this merciless brutal killer who'd do anything to win. A killer who doesn't think much about the consequences of his actions. Týr shapes Kratos not only to be a more disciplined fighter, but a calm and composed one. "A man who is one with his mind has nothing to fear, no doubts or hesitations. That man is ready to win." Týr teacher the importance of wisdom in battle. And in doing so shapes Kratos in his own image. And don't you come telling me that "oh Kratos is already wise." Kratos himself writes in his journal that Tỳr taught him a lot of things including new techniques. Clearly the game canon wants you think that Kratos is growing through his encounters with Týr. This amount of story and character development in a FREE DLC. EA or Bethesda would've charged like 30$ for this. Bravo Santa Monica, bravo.

I likes to think that Týr's training/therapy-through-combat was also to teach Kratos to master his power as a god, which by this point he finished uncovering thanks to him now being able to summon the Blade of Olympus through pure will (a feat I'm fairly certain even Zeus couldn't match). One thing that leads me to that conclusion: if you use the Legacy variant of the Spartan Rage in Ragnarök, Kratos remains somewhat calm, only displaying a frown when unleashing the Blade. Like, during the Thor rematch in Asgard, Mimir doesn't even tell Kratos to control his rage if the Legacy variant is used, and I thinks that it's because Kratos is in complete and perfect self-control of himself as a warrior and as a god.

The Weapons Tyr Uses: - Spear and Shield (These were his weapons seen on the statue of him) - A Macuahuitl (Aztec Mace) - Two Khopesh (Egyptian Sabers) - Katana (Japanese Sword) It is noted that many of these Weapons were gifts that people from other cultures gave to Tyr while he was traveling outside the Nordic world. It is curious that people who had other deities became fond enough of Tyr to give him these gifts, as we were told in The first Norse game in Tyr's chamber he visited many cultures to gain knowledge and people gave him many gifts as a sign of affection, Tyr was a God who literally traveled to many places to help and learn and by not interfering with the government others deities because he only dedicated himself to helping his people. I wouldn't be surprised if Tyr had also become friends with the Aztec, Egyptian and Japanese gods.

Tyr's first weapon is a Norse spear and shield, presumably the same one seen in his mural depictions in the base game. Tyr's second weapon is a Macuahuitl, most commonly associated with the ancient Aztecs. Tyr's third weapon is a pair of Khopesh, from ancient Egypt. And Try's final weapon is a Japanese Katana.

I really love the differences between Gods of War, specifically between Ares and Týr. The Greek God represented the beginning and middle of all combat, the provocation of creating a war and thriving on combat and blood spilt, constantly looking for the next thing to conquer, leading to his plan to usurp Zeus. Týr meanwhile represents the late middle, end, and prevention of a new beginning, the evenutal ceasefire and diplomacy to end it and prevent future wars. The God of wisdom, while still a warrior, actively sought out peace rather than violence, guiding all realms to unity for all of them to prosper as best he could, yet always being ready to throw hands when things got out of hand, lessons and wisdom he passed down to our main man and that glorious beard of his.

the fact that this entire dlc is (as far as i know) uncheeseable is a such a cool and amazing thing for me. you cant just save before a boss and brute force your way through it, you have to master every single encounter, master every enemy if you want to have the smallest chance against Tyr. You dont watch kratos grow as a warrior and person. You grow with him. accepting that this is about perseverance and patience was the turning point for me because every single time that i thought i would never beat him, i remembered that i had already done it before, and it pushed me to be better.

One of my favorite boss fights in the Norse saga, and he was just sparring. I shudder to think of what fighting Tyr would be like if he didn't hold back. EDIT: To clarify, I know that Tyr doesn't pull punches when fighting Kratos. When I say that he "holds back" I mean that he allows the fight to end at all. Considering that Tyr so effortlessly catches Kratos's punches upon victory, I feel like he could turn the fight around if given time. Kratos is as smart as he is powerful, but Tyr's dialogue implies that he's just as adaptable and clever, if not more so. If Tyr truly didn't want Kratos to learn from their fights, I feel like he would be able to outsmart or outmaneuver him eventually.

He wasn't holding back though. In the middle of the fight, he repeatedly says things like : " Don't hold back. I won't". Also after dying to him Mimir and Sigrun have lines implying that he isn't holding back.

If Kratos wanted to, he could have killed Tyr after each fight, even with Tyr catching Kratos' punch. But Kratos isn't that man anymore. A yield is an honourable end to combat, and it's clear Kratos respects Tyr greatly. @@alimhm7341

The thing is, Kratos is physically MUCH stronger than Týr. But I believe Týr is completely capable of out-thinking or outmaneuvering Kratos. Even after overcoming his trials and defeating him multiple times. Learning his moves, adapting to his strategies and weapons. I still feel like Tyr was holding back. There's still so much more to him than meets the eye.

I believe the blurb of tyr having "doubts" as the God Of War was Tyr believing he was not strong enough to lead the mortals, thus inspiring him to travel, gain holy weaponry and arcane magic. Tyrs newfound strength was enough to scare Odin, forcing him to unleash the "full might of asgard" down on him. (Thor, Odin, baldur, heimdall, magni, modi, valkyries, forcetti and many many monsters attacked tyr all at once and subdued him)
