Whilst in this case he could move over fairly easily out of the way of the emergency vehicle I often find dealing with emergency vehicles difficult. Yes their sirens are going and you should let them past (but only when safe to do so!) if you are in a traffic jam nose to tail and can’t move then you can’t do anything. I had this happen in a tunnel 2 lanes. Only thing any of us could do was manoeuvre ourselves so we were staggered as the traffic inched forward so the ambulance could hop one car length at a time between lanes. The ambulance was in the tunnel with sirens going for nearly 10 minutes. Nothing more we could do.
@gayaneavetisyan6644 Жыл бұрын
I was in a similar tunnel situation a few times as well. In my case the tunnel was quite wide, as were the lanes, so everyone moved to the edge of their lane (right to the right, and left to the left), and the ambulances squeezed in between the lanes very nicely.

Now that's a serious fault
@barsorrro2 жыл бұрын
Lovely video, as always, Aman! I only thought that that severe fault regarding the situation which involved the emergency vehicle was a bit harsh. I think a lot depends on how clearly audible was that siren in the distance when the police car could not yet be seen. If Kishan just failed to hear it or pay attention to it, then fair play. But overall I didn't think he'd done anything massively reproachable by going into the overtaking lane when the middle lane was being held-up pretty badly by a lorry and when none of the cars in that lane was showing any intention to start overtaking it. And as for dealing with the emergency vehicle itself, I think that Kishan did fairly all right considering the circumstances; given sole responsibility, he might have even got off the lane more quickly. It's just a stressful and relatively uncommon situation, which many drivers with much more experience than him often botch up much more badly.
@ClearviewDriving2 жыл бұрын
Hey I know It was just a really stressful situation I reviewed the footage back and a lot if the top lane was clearly very early for the undercover car so that’s why the middle lane was slower It was just an unfortunate scenario 😓
@ClearviewDriving2 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention That when he switched into the middle lane It was a fairly sudden change and as soon Kishan was in the middle lane he had a quick look on the right and switched over again. The big class one lorry in the middle lane does obstruct the view of the road and the side mirrors being convex does make vehicles appear further away. Had the green lorry not been there, Kishan would have been able to judge the distance and speed of the vehicle on the right a lot better. Therefore he would have been able to recognise it’s an emergency vehicle approaching at speed. From the perspective of the police vehicle; they approaching from far at speed and everyone was clearing the top lane. Then suddenly a learner car appears and doesn’t move out the way( he approaches behind us within seconds) Having to heavily brake and having to blare the horn. It would have been a lot more dangerous if this had been vulnerable road user, for example a motorbike approaching at speed. That’s why it was a high risk situation. Had the police car been closer, the situation would have devolved much quicker, so overall Kishan needed to check his mirrors thoroughly.
@keith64002 жыл бұрын
Distant Sirens were heard at 12:03 and we decide to moveout into lane 3 at 12:07. We are out the way by 12:22. As soon as sirens were heard most prudent idea, find out from where the noise is coming from and stay in lane. Normally on dual-carriageways the vehicle will come from behind fast if it is travelling the same way as you. If it is oncoming it does not hurt to still follow the same protocol.
@barsorrro2 жыл бұрын
@@ClearviewDriving Thank you, Aman, for the thorough explanation! I'm sure you have a better insight into the situation as you probably have more raw footage available to you and, more importantly, you've experienced the whole thing through your own eyes and ears. I didn't want my remark to sound critical or anything. I just thought that -- judging by the footage available to us all here watching -- Kishan's mistake didn't look quite so glaring. I'm wondering if the police car was using its siren all the time. If it were using the siren, then I guess you should have been both been able to hear it from the distance of about 4 - 5 car lengths that it appears to emerge from in the video. And again, I'm not in a position to argue, nor do I want to, but I believe that the way the situation developed here is quite typical of these normal traffic vs emergency vehicle encounters. Unless you can hear (or, more rarely, see) the car well in advance, there's very little chance to get out of its way "in time" (i.e. without making the emergency vehicle slow down). This is natural and something that those emergency vehicle drivers are trained to expect. Honestly, I didn't see any real danger there -- Kishan completed the lane-change manouvre (including tapping off his indicator) while the police car was still blocked by another car on the overtaking lane (and not visible yet). The driver of the emergency vehicle had no reason to expect that the lane ahead was clear and I'm sure they wouldn't be accelerating to the full at that point. I watch a lot of emergency car onboard videos, and based on that experience, I also wouldn't read too much into the blaring of the horn, since it seems to be something of a knee-jerk reaction with many emergency vehicle drivers: they do want to get through fast, so if there's a way to additionally motivate traffic to get out of the way, they will use it :). Again, please don't read what I wrote as a criticism! I only thought that it was more the untypical situation itself than Kishan's bad decisions that lead to it all turning a bit stressful. I also think that the driver of the police car could have shown a little bit more patience -- I have no doubt that they had reasons to be in a hurry, but one is probably risking losing time rather than winning it when putting a learner driver under pressure.
@barsorrro2 жыл бұрын
@@keith6400 Well, that's the whole point. In the recording, I cannot hear the sirens (can you?). I can see the caption, but I'm not sure if it appears at the first sound of the sirens or if it simply informs us of one of important factors of the situation occuring _roughly_ at the time. I know Aman is seen making a grimace soon after, but it's unclear if that's a reaction to Kishan's changing lanes and potentially cutting in in front of approaching emergency vehicle, or if she's simply questioning his choice to switch lanes again so quickly. I would venture the guess that the latter is true, because, while I know it's a mock test and not a lesson, I still don't think Aman would let him go into the overtaking lane if she herself had heard the sirens at the point he was starting the manouvre.

Since I discovered you have lights turning yellow before getting back to green I always wished we had this thing too. Because of how sudden it is, I stalled a lot of times during my practice lessons with my father and sometimes with the instructor. Then I learned to rise the clutch just that much so that it's almost at the biting point, to be ready to move off. I usually don't use the handbrake at traffic lights as I find it being unpractical especially when you don't know the light are gonna turn green in the blink of an eye, if there's possibility of rolling back I just keep a foot on the brake
@unsafevelocities56872 жыл бұрын
I too live in a country without the red-yellow traffic light state and I agree it would be nice to have. However, I usually pull the handbrake and select neutral (it's better for the clutch and less tiring on your leg) unless I have arrived at a red light late in the cycle and I'm first in the queue. Now I'm not trying to be mean, but the green light appears only sudden because you are staring at the light and nothing else. The trick is to observe the junction to predict whose turn it will be next. If you can see the colour of the traffic light for the other direction(s), this becomes easy -- when the last other direction gets a yellow or red light treat that like the UK's red-yellow for yourself. If you can't see the other colours (some places even use special lenses to stop this), then use the flow of traffic -- keep track of whose turn it is and watch for a break in the traffic or the traffic to slow/stop on the last side to get a turn. Be careful of red light runners making it look like their light is still green! I don't want to sound picky, but it also sounds like you were (are?) launching the clutch a bit too. Stalling is virtually impossible if you provide throttle first (enough to hear the engine note get louder than idle or

Aman has earned her respect, and deserves ours, too often people throw around sexist remarks in the chat, and then pass them off as casual jokes, but it's never OK to demean women, sexism and objectification all feed into a culture of misogyny, and yes Aman will brush it aside, as she's so chill, so down to earth, so gentle in spirit, but it's disrespectful to her brilliance nonetheless. 🙏🙏
