Cleetus Mcfarland recently tested a cheap ebay electric turbo and it did not go well. Cleetus declared that electric turbos do not work and that is where I beg to differ. My electric turbo (Phantom electric supercharger) does work and in this video I show the differences between what Cleetus tested and what I have.
The Cleetus Mcfarland youtube channel is awesome ! Please click the link below to see the Cleetus electric turbo test.

As a previous frs owner. I believe he made the thing slower. His 0-60 was worse than mine was when it was stock. I watched a video of him driving around and doing pulls. I forget but I think I times his 0-60 at a little over 7 seconds. Nearly a second slower than what road and track did For way less than the money he spent, I bought a Cobb access port, catless headers, and I made my own intake tube/ducting. The thing was still slow but it ripped compared to this thing.

@timothybayliss6680
@timothybayliss6680 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know where to start. The Audi system electric supercharger is used roughly the same way as yours, to eliminate turbo lag from the two exhaust driven turbochargers on the engine. It uses a 7kw motor. Guessing by the size of the wires on your setup and the controller size, your is max 2kw. They have also done this because the exhaust driven compressors can be more efficient in their operating range as they no longer have to function at the very bottom of the engine rpm scale. The compressor and motor are also water cooled because of the amount of heat that is generated during use, something you outright ignore. You have said that your boost trails off to 2psi at the top of the range and given these are relatively fixed displacement supercharger and flow nearly the same air independent of engine rpm, the most you are probably getting is about 30hp. Given the wide range of rpm that Cleetus performed on the mustang and that for most of the pull the mustang was below the power output of a factory frs, this mustang engine does not flow more air in any appreciable way than a stock engine in an frs, something your car is not. Your setup on this mustang would have nearly the same results as on your car, starting at about 5psi and tapering to 2psi at peak, netting about a 30hp gain. Closer to 25 on a dynojet, but this is ballpark figures, both engines have mass airflow meters and you could look at the voltage and know with a high degree of precision how much air each engine is actually moving. There is no point to debate this, the 4.6l mustang engine flows nearly the same air as the 2.0l frs engine. In the cleetus video they acknowledge the voltage problem and vow to use a boostapump to push as much as twenty volts through the controller, something your setup does when the batteries sag, something that would probably not change the result. Considering you can buy an FA20Dit for less than two grand and this gives you at least 50hp, and a short block that can hold more than 400 at the tires, your $2k for ten second 30hp bumps so your Siena slow sports car can safely merge onto a highway is kinda lost on me.

Interesting! Id love to see more higher boost builds with this. Did you ever run into issues with the turbo creating a restriction in your air intake while its off? I've run to issues before with a regular turbo, but the bearings were shot so it would not turn at idle; creating a huge intake restriction and a extremely rich idle.
@carculturenation2166
@carculturenation2166 Жыл бұрын
no matter what a turbo or supercharger will restrict the air intake not sping or spinning a little from intake air and even to the point the are powered they will still restrict intake air until they start to make about 2 to 3 lbs of boost to equal out tge factory power. so if this man dont have that thing going until 75% throttle then he is killimg the engine at anything low thottle which would make tgat engine suffer. If you are lokking for your car to run normal until he wanted full throttle power for those little gains he couldve save a bunch of money and ran a wet nitrous kit whixh you can get for 3 to 500 bucks and it can be tuned to the car and give you power only at full throttle or less. also you can make it r7n really efficiently if only running a 40whp gain its super safe that low with notrous on up to 100whp shot for most engines. niteous can be tuned. What this guy is showing on a dyno is tge fact a dyno is just a tool. it meant to say if your car make 120hp for example that when they tune or fix the issues that the car may be having a dyno shows there is power gains sometimes just from fixing a issue. also you have STD AND SAE dyno numbers. one number is the number this particular brand dyno shows which is a real number the other is a corrected number and the shops for youtubers or shops try8ng to lie to guys they are tuning or a guy just trying to show big numbers the shop can type in estimated hp loss due to drivetrain loss. which is retarted for ppl to believe those numbers if they dont understand how the numbers work because a mid engine car because the power goes from engine trans through axles they caculate 10 to 15% drivetrain loss depending shops ppl etc. but a front engine rear wheel drive car the engine makes power then driveshaft then rear and some say then axles then tire and dependind wheel/tire can be its owns losses so a guy can say 20% to 40% loss which us as ppl watching a video we just see hp so it can make a 195whp car look either 20% boosted or 40% higher than the crank/engine hp. which is dumb because rear whel drive you lose power yes. but we should go by non corrected number which will look low. lets say you take 707hp dodge challenger hellcat to the dyno. 707 is usually the hp at the engine. but at the wheels with correction a guy can make is 707 or 800hp. without correction its gonna show us the truth of whats at the wheels and with drivetrain losses the hellcat can be 600 to 625whp but that is the REAL number of wat the car actually pushes out of the rear wheels to the street. HUGE to a person that knows but ppl that dont know its l8ke well thats a small n8mber. hell thats the truth number no lie

The main point of forced induction is to increase overall air density. Higher pressure with high intake temp doesn’t really do a lot of good to the engine. That’s where the intercooler comes in.
@aydenowens9522

I would argue that compressing the air increases the air density. Also, as he stated in the video, he doesn't have hot side. The intake is getting its air from the air box which is right up front. That's not to say its not gonna get some heat from the engine but it certainly wont be hot when powered.

That's the idea I think will work good. Simple and efficient. The switch for the motor could be shifted from beneath the pedal to the throttle activating lever on the engine itself. Here's a question. I noticed on the video by Cleetus of the Torque Amp they had good results as you did with the Phantom. The problem I see is the reduction in airflow when not engaging the electric 'turbo'. Has anyone installed a gate system to take care of this? Considering on doing one of these on my motorcycle, but don't want the reduced intake airflow when not using the boost. As far as charging, one could also charge from a plug-in charger as needed. I mean, if the battery can provide 4 minutes of boost, that's plenty for some fun here and there... it's not like you're gonna hold the boost down for 4 minutes straight... probably 10 second boosts as needed.

Suisk8- most factory computers can adjust fuel trims for low boost. Computer sees lean condition and adds more fuel in milliseconds to get it back where it needs to be. When Modern Subaru’s have bad or removed cats, they throw a check engine light and a cruise control light. ANY tuning software can get rid of this problem. He has both lights during his test drives. This indicates to me he is running the stock software. He is not adding fuel, his timing is still the factory setting. His car will not run right when under boost. The factory ecu will modify fuel and timing within set parameters. Those limitations will not compensate for an engine making boost.

I would love to see an electric speed control mod for the brushless motor that controls the boost in relation to the throttle position. Your video stated that the electric setup doesn't kick in until 75% throttle. Anything under you are pulling vacuum against the system. With an ESC you could apply power based on throttle position to at least negate the vacuum, keep it at least breathing easy. You could even draw from the standard battery/alternator in these low demand situations and pull from the "boost batteries" when the system kicks in full power.
@carculturenation2166
@carculturenation2166 Жыл бұрын
this dude is a idiot when it comes to boost. Even talking how the battery runs the power while the car is running is a false statement because as long as you have a good alternator a car once its running you can pull the battery out and drive across your state and hell my stepdad got from Colorado back to wisconsin with no battery. But as far as no boost until full throttle that means you have restriction which robs power until full throttle. as far as full boost of 4.7psi to 5psi. most turbos take a consistent amount of boost to not be a restriction. so when you have it at full boost bak8ng 4.7 to 5 psi 3 psi is probably gonna be needed just so its not a restriction because the car is sucking psi just to run from that much psi you are obviously robbing HP if its not runn8ng at idle and as air is be8ng forced through with no where to go you would always have to be at 75% throttle in his case and the thing would lose power and slowly kill the thing. Dyno is a fricken tool look at your dyno how much power you lose everywhere else. you are making that car suffer for a little up top power if thats the case 300 to 500 bucks get a good nitrous kit spray 40 to 300 shot and same thing set it for full throttle and use it when you need it. anything costing this much for you to have a dyno lime and car running like crap because of a restriction is just stupid. eventually cleetus got a really got a really go electric turbo and then the same company sent him a twin turbo/supercharger and it was way more beastie than what you have sir. they put it on a lil cobalt and got power. but it had a lot of other stuff to make her run right it my friend was a good kit. Electric supercharger is nothing new.Electric superchargers have actually been used on super and hypercars and was hoping this video was about that. Come on with trying to make money of a cleetus segment when your logic without knowledge is flawed. even the kit they got for the cobalt was taken off. the electric supercharger cost more than the cobalt and it was a proper kit made power but geaorge from cleetus mcfarland drove that car daily to the shop and raced it up until cleetus smashed it like a month or 2 ago. but them turbs werent on it because car runs better without them craps. get nitrous before this craps. Plus last thing im gonna day is you trying to be factual is worse than my punctuation and spelling in this comment lmfao. OH and hey cleetus was trying to be funny with these science segments dude lmfao shim shum dhim bang boom right over ther doom piece lmfao 🤣 😂 💀 😆 😭 😅 🤣 😂 💀 😆 😭 😅 🤣 😂 💀 😆 😭 😅 🤣

this unit's output throat could/should be nearer the size of the throttle body (about 3/8" larger diameter). if a unit can push 5-6 lbs up to about 6500 rpm before it starts rolling off its everything it needs to be, factory ECU isn't going to freak out. that setup on a 1300-1500cc could be a surprise.

Something like this would be great coupled with NOS where the charger kicks in just before full throttle and over 3k with the spray kitting right after. Don’t fall for his video. Watch his other videos first. He peaks at five psi but truly only runs about 2.7 under WOT. He also shows his gauge cluster while he’s flooring it. My tuned, catless, frs with a home made intake was faster than this and only cost 600 bucks for the tuner and manifold. Furthermore, an m90 supercharger costs a couple hundred bucks and you can easily fab up some mounts to put one on the frs. This guy got conned out of his money but doesn’t want to admit it so he keeps trying to prove something that’s not true

Only issue with this is the price man, you can effectively buy a good turbo spool and pair it with decent supporting mods for around 2k and make a ton of power, however you did a great job putting this setup together and if you're happy with it more power to you sir 🙂
@yume8380
@yume8380 2 жыл бұрын
This is for someone who does not want a ton of power, but just an extra boost in hp for some fun and drivability, a car like the FRS is not safe and not reliable when you add too much. this system is easy to install and easy to take off, no lag, and does not require as much work compares to a turbo kit. The price will no doubt go down and be more affordable if more companies would develop and sell this type of kit.

You have to do a baseline on the same car you are adding this turbo to so you can get a true reading. We have no idea what else may have been done to the dynoed car. Good effort tho. You have a valid point. I would never spend that amount of money based on the two separate cars being used to try and confirm these numbers.

Curious of the same I.e what consequence/restrictions are there with the compressor when it’s inactive (when the car is in cruise mode)? Wouldn’t the internals of the compressor make it harder for the engine to suck in air with an inactive compressor?
@chuckschillingvideos
@chuckschillingvideos 8 ай бұрын
Yeah, for this to reduce/eliminate such inefficiencies, you would need to have two separate intake paths, one for when the supercharger is active and one for when it isn't (and thus a separate means to switch between the two).

An exhaust driven turbo producing equivalent boost to your electric turbo does not require an intercooler. OEM’s using / experimenting with electric turbo’s are not driving the turbo with batteries. They’re using generators to drive the turbos.
