It happens in every city. The problem is, yes, that the carriers are overworked to the extreme. In my city, they took away all our holidays and nearly all of our Sundays, while working 10-16 hour days. We could not keep our hours under control. The entire city went 8-hour medical at one point in protest! We have five zip codes. Anyway, many of us, including me, fell apart under these conditions. I quit in 2020. It was really disappointing, because I loved the work, but there was so much of it, it literally ruins people. And management is straight-up abusive (like, screaming and swearing at the carriers when they can't make their estimated times). Parcel loads were going up 200+% every year since I joined in 2015. I was very straight; never resorted to hiding or trashing mail. But we did have a few who couldn't handle the pressure and couldn't face these abusive managers when they had to tell them their delivery estimates were off, and they needed help.

So the employee goes into the back. Hank walks back and says "So about my friend, you aren't going to find any mail for him. He just doesn't have any." And the employee says "I know that. So they wanted him to be on-call 7 days per week, but could only offer him 25-30 hours per week most weeks. When I was in training, the instructor told us that she had been with the USPS for 25 years. You'd think she was up for retirement in the next 5. Nope. She was an RCA for 12 years. She would have to work another 13 years to be eligible for retirement benefits. She was in her 50's. The USPS is a game you get into when you're in your early 20's and if you hit it lucky, you'll get to retire before you're 50. RCA/Rural Carrier is the only job in the USPS that doesn't accrue time for your pension when you start. It happens when you go full time and someone has to leave and you are first in line. My Father-in-law was a Postmaster; worked most of his life for the USPS, He wouldn't have tolerated this kind of stuff one bit. He's probably rolling in his grave because of stuff like this. Luckily, all the postal workers in our area are just as dedicated and do a great job! USPS really needs to stay on top of who they hire and toss out the deadbeat trash that pull this crap.
@Vagabond_Etranger Жыл бұрын
There's NOT ENOUGH good workers in any industry. Hence you have to lower hiring standards. Work loads is now more than ever. I now see carriers out there at 8pm. Growing up in the 80's, most were done by 5-6pm. Firing the deadbeats put more strain on your good workers. One lady wrote that she worked 25 days straight.

Really? Think about the issues of late payments on your bills, and it affects your credit score, and you don’t get your tax notices, your insurance cards, and you’re on the phone dealing with people who don’t believe you aren’t getting their mail, month after month… Then start worrying over who has your bank statements and credit card statements, and Social Security letters, etc. it is huge. And then add in three years of dealing with a person who doesn’t listen, doesn’t care, and doesn’t do their job to fix the very real problem they are pretending doesn’t exist. And under that DAILY worry and aggravation, you wonder: is it the mail delivery system, or is it a stalker stealing your mail? Maybe a nasty neighbor with a grudge? So another level of stress. Yes…this woman absolutely could have Post Traumatic STRESS Disorder. Her life was being affected for three years in a very negative way, for reasons she didn’t understand and couldn’t control nor alleviate. It was targeted, so not the same kind of micro stressors we all deal with, but a great deal more stress piled on top of them. Do you have a degree in Psychology? I’m guessing you don’t. You may want to not comment about things you aren’t fully educated about, especially when you are not willing to give the benefit of the doubt to a victim. And, yes…before you ask, I do have a degree, as well as personal experience with PTSD. And notice I’m not saying she does…I’m saying it is possible. I am not her therapist, so I can’t diagnose her.
