@MrMac11382 ай бұрын
@@JR-ws4te No. He would expect $1 Billion in free money for Brook Park. He thinks the state will kick in money - but it probably won't. Brook Park has under 20,000 people and does not have tax revenue to support a stadium. The Cuyahoga County Sin Tax could go to some of that - but it is split three ways between the three teams and is only about $20M total per year. So the Browns would get $6.5M per year and it needs to be renewed in a decade. With interest, it probably can only fund about $150M worth of bonds. Gambling taxes are to the state and already allotted. So I do not see where Cuyahoga County will front $1 Billion, or most of it. Brook Park has a small tax base and might be able to generate some tax revenue on special taxes at a stadium district, but I doubt Brook Park could contribute more than $100M to the total cost. Since Haslem wants a $2 Billion stadium and will pay for half, I see no way that funding will occur. He also will likely want a massive property tax break as part of it all, so Brook Park would sacrifice substantial revenue as would Cuyahoga County. I see no way to fund Brook Park unless it is mostly private. If it is $2B and the contribution is only $500M - I think that could happen. My guess is Jimmy is only going to get $500M and he can threaten as much as he wants, but the climate of massive public boondoggles for private sports team is not a good one right now. A lot of Nashville politicians lost their jobs over that deal.

@@MrMac1138 you're trying to speculate on a sophisticated business deal, that you don't understand. Its been obvious the Brook Park location is very appealing for a number of reasons - hence we have a deal. I'm sure there are plenty of investors and banks willing to provide financing, the project has a lot of potential. New rafters, maybe some seats and a land bridge on an aging roofless stadium for 10-12 events a year never made any sense whatsoever.
@MegaSlowe2 ай бұрын
$500 million would be a drop in the bucket for a proper renovation. The current stadium is built where the old one was, and that land was an old landfill. They would have to tear the whole thing down, then completely rebuilt because it would need foundation work. $500 million would help if building new at the Burke Airport site. The city needs to do something with that airport site. It's an eyesore, and has plenty of land for a new stadium and other development.

I'm in CLE and I think the general consensus I'm hearing is that moving to Brook Park would wreck the tailgating, home day weekends, etc.
@MrMac11382 ай бұрын
Yeah. A few people like the idea of no cold weather, but they do not like the idea of losing the tailgating. Most of what I have heard is negative. Though I have heard a few that would prefer to build a new stadium somewhere else in the city. Rumors are the USPS is going to build a new Post Office so that large lot of land SE of Progressive Field may be available. That would allow lakefront redevelopment to progress without needing a stadium.

I attended several games in Cleveland when they played Pittsburgh in the early 90s at the old stadium, and it was quite cold but I loved it and the fan atmosphere. I guess I'm just old school and prefer football to be played outdoors unless it's maybe someplace with extreme heat such as Phoenix and Houston.

Good video. But think you should highlight why brookpark is such an ideal location. It sits right in the intersection of both I480 and I71 (plus 237 and a stones throw from turnpike) This is huge for Browns fans. It takes forever to get to browns stadium. After a game you’re sitting in traffic not going anywhere for 45 minutes minimum.
@davidsaid76662 ай бұрын
1st , If the Haslems want a Domed Stadium after purchasing The Browns and Owning The Columbus Crew they obviously realized that Art Modell at one time had an 80,000 seat capacity Stadium and they now only have somewhere in the range of 63,000 seats which is losing 17,000 seats per game knowing that most every game is sold out ( as long as they remain contenders ) . So I say make Jimmy and Dee Haslem pay 3/4 the cost since they will get it all back with Fans going to the games plus they can host more events rather than just 8 weeks of regular season games .
