A music director who boarded over the console of a (then) $1M instrument because he didn't like organ music? Words fail me! Who was the sassenach who was permitted to do this? He should have been run out of town on a rail!

George Szell was the conductor who "entombed" the organ, as he wasn't satisfied with the projection of sound of the C.O., out into the hall, and demanded a new stage configuration to improve it.
