Got a giant one of those little buggers in my store today... I was busy and when I suddenly saw this massive, flying black thing in the corner of my eye it scared the ever loving piss out of me. But I like them. They are cute and fuzzy, like tiny flying teddy bears!

+mApppel I'm the same. I love bumblebees and I think they look really cute close up but I've had a massive phobia of bees and wasps for as long as I can remember and when ever 1 flies near me I just freak out and start panicing even though I know bumblebees are really passive and its not going to bother me. Its the buzzing that causes me to panic. But having said that I find bees really interesting and love watching documentarys about them. A couple of years ago I couldn't even watch videos like this without feeling anxious, so educating myself a little about bees has helped alot.

watching the bee initially take off is quite remarkable. ive never been stung by a bee in me life because unlike most people who have a fit when bee comes near, i simply ignore it and act calm. the bee hovers close to me and sometimes even come into direct contact but never sting. It might be their astute recognition of a threat-perception.thanks for sharing these videos, cheers

Actually, the bumblebees never lose their stinger. Unlike their cousin, the honeybee which has a barbed stinger, they have smooth stinger so it slips out easier. They're just an extremely tollerant bee.

Which would you prefer, more chemicals in your food or a few wasps in your garden? Wasps don't attack, unless they are provoked, so you need not worry about them. That's because wasps and bees are two completely different insects despite their similarities and their likely common ancestry. Bees are complete herbivores, and will remain docile if they know that a threat isn't around. Wasps, on the other hand, are carnivorous (usually) from the time they are born, and as such they need to be ready to fight. This aggressive behavior transfers in the way they protect their nests.

I live in Texas, and it's been many years since I've seen a bumble bee. Why have they disappeared; chemtrails, cellphones, african killer bees? I miss seeing them, just like I miss seeing the horned lizards; who were run off by those dang fireants; who ran off the harvester ants which were the main food of the horned lizard.

@spektre0 You need to understand what I mean by "create". If your thinking of animals like cows that produce milk or plants that produce fruit, thats not what I mean. Bees actually "create" honey. They collect pollen and with their hard work they make that into honey
@geomonicdotorg

@rmephh - FYI, only honeybees die when they sting, because both the stinger and some of the internal organs to which it is attached, are separated from their bodies when stinging. Bumblebees, on the other hand, do not lose their stingers, and can sting repeatedly without dying.
@TinyCoconut
@TinyCoconut 14 жыл бұрын
@rmephh Sorry to trouble you with good news, but bumble bees DO NOT die when they sting, since their stingers lack the barbs of other bee species. Try doing a Wikipedia search before commenting, so you don't contribute to mis-information, and don't make yourself look like a fool :]

These bees are the best of all of em. They are hard workers, they rarely bother humans and only are hostile if you constantly bother them. Before you hate on these creatures, just know that these are the ONLY animals to actually create a food for humans.
