if she has been around a lot of people while working in nashville that speak a strong country accent she could have probably developed one herself. you do tend to speak similar to those people you hang around with. Plus, you ever hear "country must be countrywide"? just b/c she is not born in the south doesnt mean she is faking a country accent. And she is from Detroit, but i recall reading somewhere else about her living in another country before too or something like that, maybe Tennessee.

amadream1 Its true you will eventually take on an accent depending on where you live, but what you didn't mention is it takes quite a long time for that to happen. I speculate it probably takes quite a few years. I don't think she'll have been in Nashville long enough to pick up an accent.

Jeez, everyone who is concerned with whether her accent is fake or not, where she's from, and how she sounds live are just extra finicky about stuff that doesn't matter. I highly doubt every single country singer is southern nowadays. In fact I reckon most probably aren't. As for a fake accent? I'll bet many singers fake it, just like actors in movies will if their character is supposed to have an accent. Last but not least, very few people sound as good as their albums when they perform live. I myself have seen Weird Al Yankovic, Brad Paisley, Sugarland, and John Michael Montgomery in concert and none of them, especially that last one, sounded as good as their albums, and it doesn't matter if they do. Just be happy you get to see them live because with the costs of tickets nowadays, there are many who can't afford it. If it bothers you that much, then watch something else instead of insulting a talented woman in the comments. Oh and she doesn't stink performing live. She sounds a bit different due to 3 reasons that I can see. 1. Its acoustic, 2. Its live, and 3. She's exercising good breath control while using her diaphragm to sing. I used to have to do the same when issuing marching commands when marching my platoon during my service as platoon sergeant in U.S. Army J.R.O.T.C. If you don't do either when singing or issuing commands you run a high risk of straining your voice, and hurting yourself vocally.

She's probably been told to do that--ugh! It's definitely not what she sounds like when she talks in her regular voice. I also looked up her Bio and she's from Michigan. Are people from Michigan considered country?? She's just another Taylor Swift (pop singer with some instrumental elements of country). I don't consider this shit real country, but at least it draws more attention to the genre by appealing to younger audiences.

i live in the south and my hubby is VERY COUNTRY and when country folks down here sing, they dont sound like theyre trying force their accents..♪...why you wanna fake your accent??..♪ lol but seriously...you cant change a voice thats beautiful but you can change ugly...and shes pretty all right but the voice has got to go...shes trying to hard and its obviously not working out for her...smh!!!

Jana doesn’t have an ugly voice but she has a terrible technique. She isn’t breathing correctly. When you sing you have to inhale so that you have enough air to sing long stretches of the song without falling short of air which will result that out of breath (pushing the notes out) . She also has zero vibration in her vocals. The accent thing isn’t a big deal. Many singer and actors will mimick the Accent that goes best with the song they’re singing . This is supposed to be a country song so it makes sense however the accent in the lyrics is very stressed and she is over articulating words which unfortunately can make the accent seem noticeably fake . And last the cracking of the voice before every the lyric. I HATE that . A lot of pop singer will do that . Why . Couldn’t tell you. Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson do it a lot in their singing . It’s like a cracking baby voice sound .. it takes away from your actual real voice . Again .. with practice she can be very good . Not all singer need strong voices (loud, over the top, high) , but a singer needs to know how to control and manipulate their voice so that it can sound Pleasant and not overly fabricated .
