oh yes! Hellgate London as soon as it came out and both Summoner games on Ps2 \o/ keep up the great work.
@Darcnhife Жыл бұрын
@@Hravokh I was not expecting the PS2 games that were recommended to pop-up here, that was awesome. I loved the aspect of how you are a ruler in Summoner 2. And I loved the uniqueness of the characters, including the assassin hiding in a dangerous battle by not moving. I remember battles later in the game being a gauntlet of fun. I think I liked all the characters. Normally there are characters that would not appeal to my aesthetics, but I enjoyed fighting as them. Having said that... I did not recall that tank at all. I only recall 4 of the characters.

Speaking of Hellgate London -- I vaguely remember game journal back there in my country having an article about the similar premise game, but the Other One had demons being a mix of mechanical and translucent BRIGHT RED ghostly body parts, it promised some very fun gun customisation, but over the years and finding other products to get excited about, this one slowly went into obscurity and I only now remembered "the other Hellgate London"

Yeah, I wish they would remake this gem too and properly incorporate the global stuff into the game. They remade the Hellgate Global online version on Steam as a single player offline game, but they barely made efforts in the adaptation so it's the DX9 lower quality version. I loved this game.

Amusing thing about hellgate london is that it had both 32 & 64 bit versions on the disc but only the 32 bit had any DRM. This means that by simply copying the 64 bit directory onto your hard drive you can start it up and play. Kind of surprising given that EA was the publisher

32:34 The ammount of enemies on screen is pretty impressive, what's even more impressive is that their bodies actually stay on the ground once killed - even many modern games strugle with this.
@pbjandahighfive Жыл бұрын
Sword Coast Legends got bad reviews because of the failure of the dungeon master mode which was touted as a viable replacement for real tabletop D&D. The actual campaign is fine, but a large part of the marketing and hype around the game centered on what was supposed to be a powerful dungeon master mode, but what was given was anything but which made a lot of people mad and thus the poor review scores and negative associations.
@l3xforever Жыл бұрын
And do not forget how the promise was to deliver a modern neverwinter nights experience with custom module editor tools, full d&d 5e rules implemented, and the aforementioned gm mode support. None of which materialized in the end.

About Hellgate London, basically, this game was mentioned to become an MMO, but failed a couple of times, first - with original studio cause of crunches and EA patronage (surprise, surprise), then - with korean, who made Hellgate: Global version, which not last for long as well. HOWEVER, there is still a project of enthusiasts, completely free to play and pretty much stable, with bunch of good tweaks and updates, so if you want to get real HG experience, I would be highly recommended to check out London2038 project. I will be happy to help with all info I know so far. FOH TEH LIVINNNN! :D

Huh, Sword Coast Legends seems fine. The weird license thing has surprisingly occurred with other games and there are some articles warning devs to make sure their IP license contract is solid. For example, the studio BKOM that is making an upcoming Pathfinder ARPG had to remove its past D&D game (Tales from Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation). If my memory is correct, Sony lost the right to sell many of the games they made in the past due to IP licenses.

You make me want to play Hellgate again ! By the way there is London 2038 for multiplayer but there is also Hellgate revival for having the multiplyer content in solo mode, well not all of it but the majority of items are there. That requires some steps but nothing too hard. I like this game a lot ! IMPORTANT : It's for the original version of 2007. The steam version is basically a port from the version that was a kind of mmo. Has all the content (i think ? Maybe not, idk) but apparently some people encounter a bug with intel processor that freeze the game at 1 fps. Up to you to decide !

One of the big reasons for Sword Coast Legends' lack of success is because it was pushed as being a DM vs Player game, similar to NWN, but the devs obstinately refused to add any real depth or complexity to that feature. They insisted they wanted it to be so simple that their small children would be be able to play it, and consequently alienated everyone else. Tabletop style DM/Player interaction was supposed to be the main draw of the game, and it's interesting that this feature was such a failure that you didn't even feel a need to mention it in your review.

"But you know, you can still get the game if you try hard enough. Or, should I say, _h-arrrrrr-d enough, matey"_ *implied wink **-insert pirate hat onscreen How do I give a video more than one 'Like' here on KZbin? 😄 Summoner 2 (well, the first one moreso, but whatever) reminds me of another early PS2 game that received a load of attention in magazines at the time - Drakan: The Ancient's Gate. This fantasy action-adventure where you played a sword-wielding chick who could ride a dragon around. I have no idea where games where you can ride dragons around are so rare. I mean, I know you're a PC-focused channel, but if you have the PCSX2 emulator up and running anyway, you might wanna check it out sometime. The _first_ Drakan game was a PC exclusive though, so you could opt for that as well/instead.

Back when it released I quite liked Hellgate. It looked fantastic, the gameplay was fun, looting was fun. But more then that, two years after playing it and having forgotten all about it me and my sister visted the British Library. Even though hadn't been there before I somehow recognized and knew my way around that place like the back of my hand, it was bizar. At some point it dawned on me that I actually hád been there before, in this Hellgate game. They copied that place perfectly, and even though I never felt like finishing the game I do like it that much better for this experience.

Played Sword Coast Legends when it came out, thought it was below average and forced myself to finish it as had nothing else to play back then. Also played Hellgate London when it first came out, online only(?), it was a lot of fun to play with my brother. Though the class/skill balance was bad and I don't remember it having respec option, meaning it became extremely repetitive since you had to focus everything to just one main attack with a couple support skills. I remember playing the whole campaign through using pretty much just a single laser/leash type skill with bunch of passives proccing off of it, but I did do insane damage compared to others.

Summoner 2 was my title to play on PS2 emu, it's weird how there was no PC release despite first game getting PC and PS2 version... same studio ten later made Saint's Row1 without PC port while other games got one. S2 had some parts that required either multiple playthrough to try them - or just buy/DL the guide and get the best results. PS2 era was like that. Hellgate London was really promising, there's some version on Steam, but not sure if it's worth touching after all these years? Might as well play Remnants From the Ashes instead.
