Using chopsticks is actually part of the diet, when eating with it, you end up eating little by little and taking longer to finish, which is good for digestion and also you will feel full faster!

Idk about feeling full faster since your eating slower...but I agree it does slow you down which is good, I think I may use chopsticks more often because of that. Never thought of that before XD

actually matcha does contain caffeine (although less then a cup of coffee) but it also contains l-theanine which has an influence on the caffeine release. caffeine from matcha is released slower and more consistent and therefore matcha is known to be less anxiety inducing.

Hey taz, if you're a texture oriented person on food, you should try indonesian food, "bawang goreng" is like fried shallots that could be an addition to any meal with rice, and try the "krupuk" crackers that could be eaten as a snack, or with rice, and with "sambal" ofc (a kind of spicy chutney or sauce), it's like our bread and butter If you are already used to indian food, a lot of indonesian food may feel like home, we have curry like "padang food" and whole list of vegetarian options like "gado gado", "gudeg" and "tempe" Although as a someone who has tried and cooked indian food before i think it's a lot more savory than spicy if compared to indian food, P.S. i wont say it's healthy, it's really good hahaha

I learned this recipe from a Japanese KZbinr: adding a little bacon in the miso soup, it blew my mind. I like to fried the bacon till the oil comes out and add the miso paste and mix it together with the bacon first before adding water and veggies like potatoes, bean sprouts, tofu, green onion. Maybe thats why I never think miso soup as fishy cos mine always taste rich and smoky.

They suggested that for the "umami", especially from naturally occurring MSG that certain foods make once cooked, for that flavor. Bacon is just a quick way to do it since bacon is usually cured with things like celery powder, etc... so bacon itself will have some "umami" infused in it. But usually you'd use some thick dried kelp called kombu, anchovies and/or dried fish flakes, dried mushrooms (usually shitake) and you boil it for a long time. Some people might add other things into the dashi stock (my mom likes to add shallots & white onion). Then you strain all that stuff out so you have your liquid soup base/stock, and that's your base for the soup to add your tofu, etc.

As a Japanese, I think you did an amazing job! As someone who also enjoys cooking foreign dishes, I know it’s very hard to make them especially when you have never been to the country and know how it is supposed to taste and look! I never heard anyone say itadakimasu in a so cute way 😊 "itkatakimasu" Japanese people have many unhealthy oily dishes like Gyuudon, ramen etc. I think the variety that makes a difference. Like, when they make a hot pot (sukiyaki) that has everything in it cooked togeather. And also the side dishes. To say the truth, the breakfast that you showed when you presented how food is served in japan and in uk, that plate would have been enough for me a whole day, it would make me sick if I had to eat it in one go. Egg, sausage, cookies, bread, beans, and something very cooked... It looks really unhealthy 😆

Taz! I can give you video chop stick lessons! 😂 My grandma is from Japan so I'm not very good but have been trying all my life and can successfully feed myself. I can also recommend and give you recipes for things we ate but it's a Japanese American hybrid at this point. Also, I think I love you even more after hearing that Glass Animals song 😍. You did a great job here and ate a much wider variety than I would have. We stan a brave queen!

I was honestly thinking the same :( Missing so much umami and nuanced ingredients and cooking methods. Because I really wanted her to taste it like it was authentic mom's home cooking, and see how she enjoyed it in that way. But she tried her best.

I'm japanese descendant and I don't like tofu too, so what works for me is boiling it into the misoshiru, then give it a mix so the tofu dissolves. Also, misoshiru tastes richer and tastier when drunk (just grab the bowl with both hands and drink the soup). The japanese expression to say before having a meal actually is itadakimasu, instead of iketakimasu, but your pronunciation is really good! :) Itadakimasu is a concept, with a profound meaning. It's about gratitude for every life that made it possible to eat that meal; respect for the hands and the effort each person put in the food, from the seed to the plate. So anyway, I want you to know that I respect your hard work on your youtube channel! I love watching all of your videos! 💚

Another big thing that helps Japanese and Asians is how much walking is done! My family has a small garden in the huge community gardens and it’s really nice to not have to pay so much for fresh veggies as well as it’s a bit of a walk to and from! My family in Japan walks and uses the train for long transport but I love walking in Japan it’s so nice

I appreciate her efforts but I feel like she didn't research HOW to cook the meals very well which made it harder. For instance... Always debone your fish before cooking. The bones can be dangerous to swallow.
@roseywinter
@roseywinter 3 жыл бұрын
I agree more research could have went into this, but actually in a lot of Asian cultures we grill and eat the fish with the bones still in it. We debone as we eat. I'm half Korean, and lived in Japan as a child. It's quite normal, although now that I'm an adult I find it more tedious than when I was younger, lol. I prefer my fish deboned now.

You should try freezing tofu and then thawing, draining all the liquid away an then cooking it. It makes it way less squishy and it absorbed flavours better

I follow a Japanese family on here, and watch her cook, you might enjoy her as well.... Imamu room, and her other channel is one where she makes bento box lunches for her husband to take to work, she never shows her face, or her husband's, you kinda see her little daughter , but not fully.....anyways it's all very interesting, they eat A LOT for breakfast!!!! Well enjoy ! Thank you for sharing your experience, loved this video!!

how to chopsticks : Basically, you only move the stick that you support with your index finger, middle finger and thumb. The other one you rest it on the web between your index finger and thumb and support with your ring finger. If you are holding it correctly, the tips should touch and the ends should open (imagine letter "V"). To open the chopsticks, move only your fingers (index and middle) while the thumb acts like a fulcrum to keep them in place. TBH, it is quite a complex action =p It can really test your coordination skills
