This week we're diving back into some crafting achievements in Final Fantasy XIV! I want to finish all of the luminary tools before Dawntrail hits, and it was just the grind to work on while editing videos! Sorry guys, I had to put this one together on the quick since I'm on vacation this week. COOL THINGS HAPPENING NEXT WEEK, THO!

Oh! I can answer your question! I've been been playing FFXIV since 2013 and I've amassed 21,535 currently obtainable achievement points. When I think about doing 1000 Frontlines wins, I get sick to my stomach. I've been working on getting 100 Field of Glory wins since Stormblood. I'm at 90/100. There was one day where I played 19 matches and only won 1 time. I've realized I'm totally ok with only get 95% of the achievements in this game. I feel great since I made that decision. Now I can go back to what I enjoy most: jumping around the housing districts.

Same. Thankfully Yoshida would likely promote from in his unit. And I think almost all of then share in his vision. The only way I see Yoshi P leaving is if he was made CEO of SquareEnix rather than just a member of the Board of Directors. It does seem like his passion for game development far outweighs his desire to be a corporate bureaucrat. And since FFXIV is Square's cash cow right now I don't see him being fired any time soon. He's basically the one person keeping the game from being monetized to hell though. I think if he steps back he'd want leave the game with a good legacy, and would just promote someone very likeminded.

Yoshi saved the game from utter cancellation. Without his heroic efforts after the collapse in 2012, there would be no FFXIV anymore, it would simply not exist. The first game was played 1.0, by my friend Boone, and he said the game was very bad. On the server shutdown date, he was playing and the game kept crashing or kicking player off the servers due to poor traffic handling. He did manage to stay online for the final cutscene, but before that he was getting kicked every 30 minutes. Their software and hardware, neither one was up to standard.

I am achievement collector who migrated from world of warcraft... because I finished it. I got every mount, pet, toy, achievement, and did it all. And to be honest the end of the path was somewhat hollow and the game devolved to where it was just trying to keep me in the game rather then being a fun game. FF14 on the other hand is still fun and keeps adding content with the intention to be fun and not to just occupy my time like WoW did. So as long as it stays like that and you balance your own gameplay to always have fun then it can be a rewarding experience.

The day this uploaded, Yoshi P put out a statement about the benchmark update, even going so far as to say that the reason the benchmark update wouldn't be released until the third was because the Square-Enix building would be under inspection and without power, so they wouldn't be able to scramble and fix any issues the community's collective power could find within a quick turnaround time, when all he had to say was that some issues were discovered that caused them to delay it, yeah... The man has more than earned my trust. If he ever was forced out due to his health or the suits above him, I have a feeling a LOT of people would walk away from the game. I like to say that I don't trust Square-Enix but I do trust CS3 (Formerly CBU3). If anything happened to that team, I'd probably not be as invested in future projects by Square-Enix...

I remember saying that I respected Square Enix... then I realized that FFXIV was the only reason I cared about the company, then I realized it was the work of a man that kept the game as pure as it can be on a corporate environment. Honestly, after the FFXV flop and FFXVI feeling like "meh" and me forgetting a lot about those two games almost immediately, it really feels like XIV is a whole different world on it's own... and the director has a lot to do with it, I just hope he can retire with dignity and leave the game in a respectable place when he does, so people remembers the before and after. Men in suits do not deserve praise for this gigantic piece of art.

It's cute that Cider thinks 5 years will be the point at which he'll likely be done because of levequests, when he still needs to get 20,000 pieces of the accursed hoard, something even people who spend all day streaming Deep Dungeon often aren't even close to getting. (I mean, it's not technically time gated, so that's a plus!)
@magnusaber1

Answering your question, I have ADHD, I cannot fathom long term goals the same way others can. I like to 100% most games I play however and my main feeling at the end of a long grind is relief, since I don't have to worry about it anymore. For instance, when I got all the achievements in Hades, I just stopped playing it immediately---my brain considered it 'done.' If I ever got to that point in FFXIV I would probably still login, but without actual goals I don't know how long I would be invested.

14:10 I'm currently 4th on lich and to answer your question, I have a irl full time job so it honestly at some point does almost turns into another job if your not careful, its good to have goals but its also good to set aside time for yourself, you can burn out and knowing when to stop for a while is key, this game has something for everyone, but that also means achievement hunters will at some point or another have to do something they don't like, I was around 24k points when I finished eureka not too long ago and you've already done it. Pagos still haunts me. If I have one piece of advice, do everything you won't be doing passively, like I never do roulettes now, why should I? I get tomes from hunts, and thats what I currently need. However! not just for the sake of time but also leave some of the core achievements last like the dungeons 10k one. Your doing them all the time anyway and its good to give yourself a reason to still do core content even at late game.
@shirazan6314

Achievement hunter here at 90% (24k points)! Can confirm that the only achievements I have left are either long, tedious grinds or are PvP related. With Endwalker not adding many (fun) long-term achievements to go for, my progress has really slowed down. I resorted to redoing Eureka on an alt in order to retain my sanity.

I can't imagine being an achievement hunter in this game. Some of them seem long just for the sake of being long. I only do achievements that give me a reward I want. Like I collected all the cards because that card Mount is really cool.
@shirazan6314
@shirazan6314 4 ай бұрын
@@lens_hunter I complain, but compared to a lot of other games I've played, most of the achievements game are pretty straightforward and reasonable. Complete this raid 10 times. Craft 1000 items in this level range. Get the relics on each class. It gives you goals to set out for, sometimes for things you'd never considered before (big fishing, BLU savage, mahjong, etc.) And that keep you really engaged. The nasty achievements stand out though. Why would I want to waste 50+ hours grinding out 20k hoards? Or 7+ years doing 17k leves? I have finite time on my hands and there are better things I can do with it. I've kinda had to take a step back and decide just to do the things I find fun. And maybe work on those big grinds reeeeeeally slowly. Edit: I've been informed that the 20k hoard grind takes closer to 350+ hours. Gross.

@@lens_hunter You can get most achievements if you just play the game and do all content for years. There are some exceptions that you don´t get unless you farm them for the achievement, like the deep dungeon hidden treasures, you would need around 800 full clears to get them. Leves can be done while waiting for duty finder to earn some gil, so those are not really bad.

Few months ago, I helped a friend in getting the 5000 infused materia achievement by helping gather mats to make a ton of glamour prisms. The reason being that when you put equipment with materia infused into the glamour dresser, it instantly removes all the materia (but destroys it in the process too). So, they got all the 5 slotter equipment from Eureka and would infuse them, drop them in the dresser, then pull it out to infuse again. Was faster than trying to remove it, but more costly.

Currently, I'm pretty ride-or-die with FF14. Slowly, but surely, it's been dispelling all the anxieties that 10 years of WoW instilled into me. Before FF14, I had major fears of tanking, healing, raiding, and just any group content in general. The love for sprouts that this game fosters is what I love most, because it really does help me feel like I'm a member of a community, even when I like spending most of my time solo. FF14 is truly what I wanted in FF11 and WoW, but never got.

i'm not a person who's HUGELY into achievements (esp MMO ones), so i can't say what it exactly feels like to be close to '100%ing' achievements or the like, but doing mini grinds like the splendorous tools is definitely very satisfying as a casual player. i wouldn't say i necessarily enjoy the process of doing them, but it IS something i'm capable of doing, and is something that is easily repetitive so it gives me something to focus on when i've 'nothing else to do'. and the tools look pretty. so. lol outside of MMOs, i would say i like getting achievements, and if i think i can do it, then i will indeed go out of my way to try 100%ing. granted, they're mostly single player stuff, so it's far less of a hassle, and way less of an actual grind, but getting closer and closer to 100% does feel pretty nice :)

- I definitely fall into that category of having a "main" game and a bunch of other, smaller games on the side. Right now FF14's my main game and the smaller stuff is stuff like Baldur's Gate 3, Crusader Kings III or one of the Total War games (Medieval 2 or Empire), Persona 5 Royal, etc. - The only other MMO these days I can say I'm slightly tempted by is Classic WoW, but that's not happening. I don't want to support Blizzard, and they shut down Burning Crusade Classic (the only version I'm truly interested in since that was when I started). - I'm of the opinion replacing Yoshi-P with anyone other than someone he hand-picks to carry the torch would basically result in the game dying. Doubly so if it's someone picked by corporate to bilk as much money out of the game as possible.

I've ridden a lot of MMOs into the ground in my time. The one I will always miss is Star Wars: Galaxies. That was such a fantastic game before Sony bought out Lucas Arts' half of it and then turned it into a cheap EverQuest knock-off. After that, it's been WoW for a few years, then SWTOR, then WoW during Legion, then FFXIV. I still love the story elements of SWTOR and go back to it every once in a while to catch up, but the gameplay really got dumbed down a few years back and it stopped being a fun and interesting MMO. And WoW... jeez, that game's the dumpster fire that just won't go out. It's interesting that Metzen's back at the helm, and maybe he can turn it around. But after seeing the clown fiesta parade of crap that's dribbled out over the last year as they ramp up to their rip-off version of the Hydaelyn-Zodiark storyline, I just don't see it ever being good again. It seems like every WoW content creator can only talk about the grinds. Grinding up new alts. Grinding for end-game gear. Grinding for this, grinding for that. I guess maybe it's because I don't have an addictive personality, but that kind of gameplay just does not appeal to me at all. Given all that, I was vaguely interested in Riot's MMO. I absolutely hate the toxic nature of the LoL community, but I loved Arcane, I'm a huge K/DA fan, and I really like what I've read of the lore. So, I was interested, but I get the feeling that MMO will likely never come out.

Best MMO news I got was that City of Heroes Homecoming got an official license from NCsoft to continue hosting their server and further develop the game. It's always been a fun game if pretty simple. But it's definitely a game from 2004. Otherwise nah, FFXIV is the only game that doesn't seem to want to nickel and dime me for everything. All the other "good" MMOs right now seem to be adopting gacha practices. If Destiny 2 figured its shit out or rebooted with a Destiny 3 I'd be interested again. It's probably the best feeling shooter and so much of it's content is no longer available which is just asinine.

Baby question of the week: Nope, no MMOs on my radar. They're kind of in a bad spot right now in regards to the greater industry. They're too big for any real "Indie" effort to replicate anything close to 14, and profit motive is too strong for publishers to tolerate one that isn't extracting as much money as it possibly can. Since I've been playing 14 I just can't tolerate the nickel and diming others do and I'd probably sooner quit MMOs entirely if I can't find a suitable player friendly replacement.

I think MMOs on the whole have been on a decline for years. Expensive to make and even more expensive to maintain long-term so it's a huge financial risk to spin one up these days. Couple that with the industry's move towards LiVe SeRvIcE games that they can relatively cheaply spin up and cancel a year later after everyone has thrown money at it... and there's not even the revenue motivation to spin up an MMO anymore. Cheaper/profitable to spin something up that's 1/10th the scale/effort and has 100x the predatory monetization.

I’ve been a gamer all my life basically, but I’ve only started really branching out in the last few years. For a long *long* time I only played WoW, FFX, and The Sims 3. Then I added FFXIV, and early on had a period where I was *obsessed* with trying new MMOs! Then for a few years it was just swapping between WoW and FFXIV. And after a while I slowed down with WoW and finally fully transferred to FFXIV as my main MMO. But in the last 5 years or so I’ve been growing my Steam library, and trying out and finishing new games! The first real game I ever played outside my norm, was Slime Rancher. Then Stardew Valley, then other similar farming games because I really like the genre… My Steam backlog continues to grow and I’m trying to break out of my usual routines during patch downtimes to play other games! I love finding new Cozy Games these days. There are a lot of short ones that can be done in a few long sessions or a week or so of short sessions. But now I have a good rotation of things! I still default back to FFXIV a lot of the time though. All this to say, playing *any* games at all makes you a Gamer! If you’ve been playing RuneScape for 20 years you certainly earned your Gamer Street Cred 😅!

Going back through these videos, it's made me realize that going in with a weekly/monthly plan like you do is the only way I can possibly approach Achievement hunting. In terms of MMOs I anticipate playing, FFXIV is forever my #1, GW2 will probably be my #2, and I plan to check out ESO and TOR at some point.

I'm around like, 19200 Achivo points and around top 100 on Hyperion. Started a bit before you but Leves I think I am a decent bit behind you, but I think leves need a rework cause a SEVEN YEAR GRIND is insane but they also do not feel that rewarding for leveling with Ishgard Restoration and Collectables. That and PvP take a big chunk of my achivos but there are still smaller things, but I am a bit worried of losing things to do. Cause big fishing which will be added over time being done made me really sad until the next group comes out!! I miss doing it. But I still have stuff to do atm but once I finish them, then what. Idk im insane I just grind one thing into nothing like MH and FFXIV I need to be locked in an asylum

Achievement hunter here with over 20k achievement points! I look forward to the day when I essentially have only some huge number achievements left because I don't feel bad plucking away when I'm able to. Stuff that is solo grindable (albeit tedious) is nice for my brain but also bad if I don't have time to work on them because I can feel the illusion of FOMO. If the day ever came that I somehow finished every or nearly every achievement, that's fine by me. I enjoy raiding and other content (that prevents me from grinding achievements efficiently), so I feel like there will always been something for me to look forward to (besides story). I've come to accept though that certain categories of achievements I'll likely never fully finish (PVP and Hunts) since I can't no-life this game anymore. 😂

Not to be a debbie downer or nothin', but sometimes the game just stacks another dose of achievements on certain ridiculous categories... Like when they added Lifer III to the game. So in 5.4 years, they might add another 5.4 years of leves to your IDIOT'S DRILLED list.

I haven't been excited for a new MMO in years. I was interested in New World at one point. I could tell you why I'm not anymore, but you could probably get a clearer answer from Josh Strife Hayes. Unlike with GW2, there hasn't felt like a good enough reason for me to jump ship to another game. XIV just has everything I want and need.

We're all fake gamers, Spider. No one, and I mean no one, has enough time to play literally every game that has ever and will ever come out. We are all limited by time and the investment of that time each of our game's take. You just like bulky games that have a lot to do, a lot that can keep you busy. Even if they aren't strictly tied to the, "core gameplay loop" (I HATE this term). There are over five million games in existence since the dawn of video gaming. To play each game for exactly 1 minute, you would have to continuously play for 9.513 years. That does not include powering on each game, each game's startup time, nor the physical space required if you were gonna play'em all on original hardware. Factor out the need to sleep, eat, and keep a roof over your head, and to play each and every game for 1 minute... your life would run out and you'd still not be done. We all fall short of the glory of games.

Dood. The ONLY game I play is FFXIV. Er. . . The ONLY PC GAME I play is FFXIV. I also play Azur Lane and EverMerge. But that's it. That's all I have time for given that I'm an adult with other hobbies and I'm a full-time student. I can't play videos games all day like I did when I was a teenager. I have shit I have to do and if I don't do it I start to feel bad about myself. So don't feel bad for only playing FFXIV and a couple of other games. There's nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, I'm trying to get away from only playing a few games. Finishing Dark Souls III finally opened my eyes to preferring games that have an end. End game grind is fine, but having an end is more satisfying, and more memorable. So I've been going nostalgic and looking at jRPGs I haven't played, specifically Vanillaware (building up to Unicorn Overlord). Then I've got Monster Hunter Wilds next year. I expect to play this until Yoshi-P is replaced, though.

I remember I was so sick of doing Fates that all I did was leves for leveling in ARR. I was always out of leves lol. But when HW came out I never did another leve... (except for ARR relics lol) PS!!!! Why aren't your bags all open at the same time!!! PPS!!! I really liked Lost Ark but being FTP really is a drag. Plus it just showed how bad I am at games lol. Couldn't beat a certain raid and was stuck.

So I can't say anything for the ff14 grind, but I have most of the achievements in Payday 2 and I can give some perspective on that grind. From about the 25% to 50% or 60% mark it's really exciting, knocking down achievements one after another. You always feel like progress is being made. Up to around 85% is more of a trudge, but doable with dedication. Then there's the crawl to 95%, you've gotta fight for every inch but it's a fight that makes you feel worthy. I stopped before this point... I could already tell what was in store and it scared me off. The last 5% or so is the realm of the highest difficulty, hardest challenges. It asks you to be beyond tough, beyond skilled, or beyond lucky. Or more likely all at once. That and brutal time sink achievements for no-lifers.

even though levequests already exist back in 1.x days & does count toward 2.0 onward, only finished all recently, around half year ago since making mistake of not touching it during majority of 2.x days, then wasting it alot on 3.0 temple leves, which never thought it was a huge waste back then, was thinking quite huge boon of depleting allowances real fast by 10 instead of 1 per levequests. 😅 anyhoo... of all, battle leves are the most annoying grind imo. At least with field leves can cheat time with FSH by just hoarding MB for fish turn ins, personal spot for that is western la noscea, the low level camp ones, since the leve & turn-in npc are really very close by, with fish prices over MB imo cheapest by the time was spamming it. & probably save tradecraft for last since it's also one of the best passive gil making & which mine & many others doing after all chieves done, also another mistake I did by finishing that before DoL/battle ones. And yea, to answer that last q: FF14 probably gonna be me only MMO since me body can only take so much gaming punishment, perhaps with FF11 sidelines during their (very) generous free login campaigns of the usual 10 days duration per 3-4 months between events. Do love to try other mmo, but came to realization that my body just can't handle more. 🥲

As someone with 96% completion of all achievements, I just stop caring. Went through phases of it being depressing but I think mostly I value my time more than I used to so it could be just that. Most of the achievements I have left at 1000 frontline/rivalwings/pvp with this job (a lot of PVP stuff) 20,000 accursed hoards, 5,000 s ranks, 20 thief map clears, 5000 leve quests, etc. It is mostly grinds that offers no significant rewards and are a waste of a player's time. It is a shame as I like doing achievements but SE thinks this is what achievements should be. I just refuse to do these brain-dead things. So now that I am done for the most part I am teetering between quitting and waiting for the next expansion.

The crazy man is legitimately going to be going levequests, not only throughout the entirety of Dawntrail, but the entirety of whatever the expansion after Dawntrail is AND a good chunk of the expansion after that. Also, the MMOs i've looked forwards too either have taken an eternity to come out [Ashes of Creation] or have done things so badly in other regions that it's clear they won't be good here [Lost Ark when it finally came out, Blue Protocol, Throne and Liberty]. I pretty much always eventually return to FFXIV, maybe i'll give WoW a dip again.

14 and OS/RS are the only MMOs I've played so I highly doubt I'll end up getting into another. I only really do 14 because I can play with a controller really easily, and OSRS is just a point and click which is fairly stress free as well. If there's another ff mmo... maybe? Probably not. I only started 14 in Shadowbringers because my friends memed it to death and forced all of our group to get into it and I just started playing it religiously until I got caught up with MSQ and haven't stopped lmao.

I honestly wish I were excited about another MMO, but we just don't really get many anymore. I really miss the IP based MMOs, like DCUO and LOTRO. Getting to wander around these worlds that are familiar was really cool. But those games don't happen anymore and the old ones are just super outdated and bogged down with F2P nonsense.

I think if nothing else, running out of content in an MMO is probably a good thing. You devoted yourself entirely to this game world, put all this effort in, and you managed to conquer it- all that effort you put in has paid off by granting you mastery of it. You will have experienced every last drop of the world you love. Sure, endings are sad, but that just means you can move on to a new phase in your life with the knowledge that you absolutely crushed the last thing. As to MMOs, I think the economic environment in the game industry is just antithetical for new MMOs to launch if they aren't F2p, and F2p MMOs are never going to be able to match the experience of sub-based MMOs. It's possible that they might make a new FF MMO to replace XIV in maybe five-six years (I'm sure SE even has people trying to figure this out) but I have a feeling they'll instead go for something less resource-intensive. For example if you look at something like Monster Hunter, that has a lot of the things people enjoy about MMOs- parties, bosses with groups of people, fashion, community hubs to emote and shoot the shit with, etc but it doesn't have the full infrastructure of servers with tons of players and huge maps etc. I think it'd be more likely SE would try to make a game that's a midpoint between one of those types of multiplayer games and an MMO, something that isn't a full-on MMO but replicates the experiences. Imagine something that has the graphic fidelity of FF16, with character customization, and maybe dragon's dogma style combat with friends fighting giant monsters, and then they regularly add new dungeons and fights and grindy weapon and armor materials. I guess throw a lot of crafting minigames in and player house decoration and I think that'd do pretty well. People still play the original Phantasy Star Online via private servers and do insane weapon grinds so that sort of gameplay can have some wild longevity.

my current goal in XIV is to hit 22,000 achievement points before dawntrail. i need just 210 more, and only 25 days to get em. ill be cutting it close! but yeah im kinda the same way as you, i play a few games a lot instead of a lot of games a little each. a few times a year, Nintendo or SquareEnix or maybe Fromsoft will release something big that i just gotta play, and i take my break from XIV to play the hell outta Zelda or Elden Ring. but i still do a couple dailies in XIV, and i always come back. all my friends are on Etheirys, all my discord groups are XIV-centered. if the game werent this good, i wouldnt have spent 6500 hours on it.

regarding upcoming MMOs - Riot have been working on theirs for a while, but their early leadership left and they recently announced they're going dark until they're ready to show something. I'm interested in it mainly because League has a good base story/lore, and I've been playing it for years, so I'm hopeful if the MMO ever does see the light of day that it's something honestly good. (Too bad it will take like 5-10 years :D)

17:30 Honestly I'm kind of jealous of this mindset. I think being able to really commit to a single game would be cool, but I get incredibly depressed doing the same thing week in week out, even if that something is a game I love. Of course there's nothing wrong with bouncing between games, it's not a job, but it bums me out a bit to know there's so much content in a game I'm never going to touch, because I'll jump into something else before I get to it (and by the time I come back there'll be even more new content! So I'll never catch up!)

I was kinda looking forward to Pax Dai (mainly because their headquarters are a 15min metro + walk away from me) but I played the alpha of it a little bit and it just wasn't for me. I can appreciate the sandbox type games with a heavy community focus, but there really wasn't anything to keep me playing the game. Combat was alright, but I don't really like action combat in my MMOs and the crafting/gathering was at the same time too boring and too complex for my liking. Having to put down physical tables and stuff was kinda the last straw for me, because without getting other people to give me gear, there was no other way for me to progress. I couldn't do any dungeons because I didn't have the gear, and the only way to get gear was crafting. I've played a bit of ESO and I do like it to some extent, but I just hate the combat system. If it was a tab target game I could see it being my main game. So yeah I'll most likely stick with XIV until they stop releasing savage and ultimate raids, or something other drastic happens. In that situation I might just migrate to ESO or another similar MMO.

having 21.830 AP, 20215 ranked AP points, the closer I get to getting them all, I get a mix of emotions. there will be days when i dont want to slog and grind for those insanely time consuming points, so just slowly chip away at them, sure I could mindlessly farm/grind and get them, but the joy/rush I get from slowly working at them is nicer cause sometimes it is a surprise for me getting them. I dont get depressed over drawing closer to completing all but happy like I have achieved a life goal

Yeah there's probably not any other MMO that'll draw me away from XIV. I used to play a few at a time, Warframe and Destiny 2 being the other ones, but I slowly fell off the others and just this game was left. That being said, I'm pretty the opposite of Cider Spider. I do bounce around games a lot, and there's usually some new game to look forward to. And if not, there's a massive Steam backlog and other "I kinda want this" games.
