That bezel was absolutely gorgeous. Something I can only admire. Never reproduce. But no matter I've been watching these from beginning to end. And I must say, I'm extremely impressed at the sheer attention to detail.

The chapter ring gets a little extra bling in this episode, with the addition of an ornamental bezel. Plenty of lathe and milling operations in this video, as well as some of my favourite activity at the moment: hand turning with a graver.

I don't think I'll ever make a clock at home, but I have the feeling I'll watch all of your videos. :P The way you made the knurl-like pattern around the bezel astounds me. Going down and up and indexing the rotary table each time perfectly takes a ton of skill.

Brilliant!!! I assume you are lifting the quill between cuts with the fly cutter ??? For the diamond pattern ?? The video doesn't seem to show the up-and-down motion great vids always!!

jimmydiresta Yes exactly right. The up and down of the quill doesn't really show up that well on the high speed! Lift, index, cut, lift index cut... 108 times. It took about 40 minutes I think for the whole piece. Very pleased I didn't mess up the indexing! Thanks for watching Jimmy.

Clickspring something in one of your other videos tweaked my interest in seeing how you got that pattern into that ring. So I came back a few to see... I bet those last 5 or so cuts had the apprehension ramped up to maximum. Did you have a kitty-Cat plan in place, just in case they didn't quite match up at the finish?

It's somewhat amazing what great looking parts can be made by hand(-operated machines). I have a basic understanding of milling and turning and it is simply astonishing with which simple methods you achieve those high precision and good looking parts!
