How do you use (or not use) reminders in ClickUp?
@AndyHake
@AndyHake 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to comment on an old video. I use reminders for things that don't need time. Birthday reminders or quick things that I need to remember on any given day are reminders. I use tasks for projects that take time, often have a start and finish date, or need to relate to other tasks.

I use Clickup to manage my personal workflow and I use reminder everyday when something suddenly came to my mind (usually those are some ideas I want to do some research on) but not sure which list I should put it into at the moment. I would say the reminder for me works like "inbox" and it can be quite useful especially for people using Clickup as a personal to-do list.

A good practice! As a GENERAL rule, we defer to Tasks for most things-- if it's worth doing, you might as well make a Task for it. But, if it's something that just requires a quick check or just to be seen, Reminders are nice and simple! Thanks for watching! 🙏

But how to add reminder to the task? For example If I want to be notified 15 minutes before a task start time?
@babirbara
@babirbara 2 жыл бұрын
Then you want a notification for the task, not to add a reminder to it. Reminders are, as she said, dumbed down tasks, a different feature. If you want Clickup to send you a notification about a task start and/or due date, just set the start and/or due date in the task. Then click on the Workspaces icon (she does it at 3:36), click on Notifications (on the right side of the menu) and scroll down. You will find the Start & Due Dates section, where you can configure the default options for notifications for start and due dates. I don't think there is a way to set different notification standards for every task in ClickUp, but this is enough for me, at least. Hope this helps :)

Hey Layla! I’ve just subscribed to your channel after learning about you from your participation on the Keep Productive recent video. I immediately checked some of your videos and loved your channel, especially since I’m a recent Clickup user (longer time Notion user, Monday explorer, and some older apps like Evernote, etc). I’m a Music Industry professional with a short KZbin experience (@Midisquera) so I’m learning a lot also from your video craft work! 👌🏻

Hey Ana! So glad you enjoyed the collab video and glad to hear the channel has helped so far in your switch. Also, I’m not sure I’m yet at “craft” level with Video. 😂 it is such a learning curve! So if you have any tips as you go through, do just let me know!

I see reminder like a quicknote, whenever you just suddenly remember some pending tasks...it would be nice that you can record your voice on a reminder, to use for instance while you are driving

A bit late to your helpful videos, but I have a different view of reminders. After using clickup for 6 months, I find myself looking for a reminder feature to provide a headsup on a task coming due, a quick todo notification, etc. Ideally this would just be attached to a task, similar to how Google calendar allows reminders, but it needs to transcend workspaces, and it needs to allow a push notification. Is there an alternative way to do this? Thanks for the valuable content.

Hi there! Just getting caught up on comments🙈 Great question! Start, and Due date Reminders can be set in your notifications settings for your mobile, in-app, and browser notifications. Notifications before a task's Start Date can range from 5 minutes before the start date of a task to 3 days before. The reminder will appear in your notifications, and the triggered task will also be linked to the notification. I recommend using times in your Start Date to replicate Google Calendar notifications.

@@LaylaPomper Thanks, too bad it is one size fits all, and not specific to each task, but still better than not having anything. Do you know if 3.0 does anything in this area?

so I created a task and put a comment and then set a reminder - nothing happened - I wasn't notified. But if I set a 'normal' standalone reminder - that alerts me - how can I put a task that has a reminder attached to it to notify me
@LaylaPomper
@LaylaPomper Жыл бұрын
Good question! You can go into your notification settings to set reminders on tasks based on tasks Start & Due Dates approaching. This will create reminders for all tasks that meet the conditions. The reminder will show the task name and you'll be able to quickly click on the notification to access the task.

Hey Dara! Just catching up with comments 🙈 I reached out to our community coaches and here is what they had to say: The only way I know how to change notifications on a per-task level is by adding/removing Watchers. If you are a watcher, you'll receive notifications about the task regardless of whether you're assigned. I hope this helps! - Karleigh at ProcessDriven

I am here in 2024 - and it seems that this is still relevant, but I am not sure I get this comparison fully. To me, it is actually good that Reminders cannot do what Tasks can because then it will be redundant. I do not want to create powerful feature-packed tasks for smth like picking up groceries, turning on my water chiller, or watering plants. And whatever else tiny life-related things. Reminders are better because they have only push notifications. That said I believe Tasks can have similar notifications though due dates, The problem us, that I do not want to be notified for every single task due. Because I will have hundreds of them, wheres reminders would be much less used.

i wish they actually notified me lol, perhaps indicates on the tab that I've got to do something. Agree they just seem like less powerful tasks.

Hey Harun! Just getting caught up on comments🙈 Agreed! We use reminders and they show up in the "Home" task list, but if you're not using that often they're not that helpful.

I have a task which starts now and due in 2 months. it will appear everyday for 2 months which creates a looooong list. I cannot find a follow-up field to know when to tackle it again. if I add date field(to be filtered) then it stops me after few requesting for an upgrade. isnt there an existing field for that?

There is one big advantage with reminders that are not mentionned in the video, it's the fact that you don't have to associate a reminder to a list. Which is quite annoying with tasks

But is there a way to make task notifications not show up as "❗OVERDUE" ? That sets off my anxiety and then more anxiety that I can't change it
@LaylaPomper
@LaylaPomper Жыл бұрын
Hey! Just getting caught up on comments🙈 Great question! Right now there isn't a way to avoid the Overdue setting. However, you could create a Custom Field to mimic a Due Date and avoid using the Due Date field. Create a Date Field to represent your Due Date, and use this field to determine when the task should be done. You can also use priorities to indicate when a task should be completed. Also, to avoid overdue tasks,m you can set reminders in your notifications settings to alert you whenever a Start or Due Date is approaching.
