Sherwood, I’ve been meaning to thank you for your contribution to the automotive tech community. You guys are putting out some of the best automotive content on Y T. I know it’s time consuming and you do a great job touching on issues “outside the tech box“ I E how to respectfully handle customers while also being mindful of the importance of CYA. Last but not least it’s great to see a shop owner who treats his staff with such respect. I have 50 years in the business and from what I can see you and your team are a class act. Keep it up my friend!

I'm one of the few that have a problem with your channel. It is causing me marital problems because I watch these one after another. Whose fault is that Sherwood? It surely isn't mine. Seriously, you have a great channel for a multitude of reasons. You have really made think twice, before making a potential move that might see me on the precipice of a rabbit hole. You have more energy than most and it shows in the thoroughness of your videos. I think more importantly, you make sure we see everything you do, and you are constantly explaining as you go along. So, please keep it up and continue wowing us with your knowledge and willingness to share it and displaying your honesty for us, your customers, and your employees.

I see it every day on forums, reddits, etc where someone's vehicle is acting up and people chime in "mine acted up once, I replaced the plugs", another says "I put in new fuel injectors", and on and on. This customer told you to replace an O2 sensor, probably for the same reason - someone had to with their car, yet the scan indicated nothing related to O2 sensors.

So nice to see step by step diagnoses. Not many people show all the steps. Would be nice to show how to diagnose some complicated problems with very little/ less expensive tools. Not all shops can afford higher end scopes.

Once I saw the upside down oil cap I knew this vehicle needed some work. I also noticed the customer has a beautiful oak tree. Only thing I'd have done differently is checked the oil and when it was last changed first. I bet you did that off camera? But I love watching other mechanics doing what they love like I do, so I don't feel alone. Many don't seem to love the job. We do. Nice work.

Timing chains generally don't jump unless they've been run in slop. That coating on the VVT actuators was a pretty good indicator of what the scope was going to say.

Love the way you explain the process of the why behind the troubleshooting and then the manner in which you display the process. Makes total sense from a mechanical standpoint. The sludge on this engine was substantial. Was the engine a high mileage one? and if not, maybe there is some negligence on the customer in regard to the oil changes. You are bringing great credit and prestige to Technicians throughout the nation, it is because of instructors like you that I became a technician in the military. Love your content.

This engine is like the Land Rover that I had to replace the intake timing VCT because it tends to brake the locking pin and rattles like crazy. I had to do it again because the chain snapped after the customer changed the engine oil at Jiffy Lube; after 3500 miles, not sure what happened there because the parts came from the dealership, reinstalled the new chain again and didn't hear of it again. Insane to have snapped a chain if you ask me, everything else was fine, had to change the tensioner just for kicks on that engine.

You guys should do a video on how to find a good mechanic that knows how to properly diag and solution. Not a part changer. The other side of it too is when you find a good shop but they turn down anything significant for newer, more complex, cars. Here on Long Island, you don't know unless you know.... And I don't know 😢 lol

Do you have experience with 99 Camry Toyota 1MZ v6 engines? Have one that has a bit of a rough idle, it seems to run normal, just the idle has a buzziness/shakiness to it. Are they sensitive to worn mounts perhaps? No check engine light. Oem spark plugs & wires. Cleaned throttlebody & MAF. In the past changed one of the upstream O2s with a Denso one due to heater circuit issue, but it had the idle issue before that was changed. New Toyota PCV valve and it's elbow hose. Quick scan shows engine and air temps read same when cold. LTFs shows subtracting like 2 to 5%.
