Absolutely keep bringing Karen back! And after getting through this album, I do highly recommend you two react to The Face Off on Complex. Let those things sit with you for a few days. Then I’d love to see you take Karen through the most essential Eminem songs from the beginning. This album pulls so much from all the different stages of Eminem’s career, and I feel like it helps you appreciate all of that even more when you revisit it. I find myself enjoying and appreciating TDOSS more and more. “Guilty Conscience 2” is my favorite track from the album. It feels so cinematic, and the beat and production are chef’s kiss. I *NEED* an official music video for this. 😂 Yes, you gotta respect the OG “Guilty Conscience” for its storytelling. But I feel like “Guilty Conscience 2” takes things to a new level - I feel like it’s a bit more sophisticated. The original is more of an outsider’s perspective observing other people going through “the angel versus the devil on my shoulders” deal. This one feels like it’s inviting us into the wars Eminem has within his own head/heart.

A lot of people that want to get on EM' about the women hate, I tell them to look at it from his point of view from back then like he says in the song "Rap God", " they're asking me to eliminate some of the women hate but if you take into consideration the bitter hatred I have then you may be a little patient and more sympathetic to the situation and understand the discrimination." People have to understand the pain that the women in his life when he was younger caused him. That's why I don't judge anyone for things they say or do, not saying what they did is right or wrong, I just don't judge them, it's not my place or anyone else's

This album has been Marshall vs Slim the whole entire time, with Marshall regressing into Shady as he gets "kidnapped and drugged" (which is actually him drugging himself since they are the same person). Eminem is his Emcee name, while Marshall and Shady are the two personas. Each album is a combination of the two; the latest examples would be Revival rapping mostly as Marshall, MTBMB was a mix of both, while this album and Kamikaze are him rapping mostly as Shady. Shady was "presumed" dead after GC2, which isn't true because he survived and it was a reoccurring nightmare like groundhogs day, which is evident with the alarm clock. The whole point Em was making this album was that the old school 2003 Shady isn't something that works in 2024 as a 51 year old sober Christian, and he acknowledged what Shady did for him but it's not what he's about anymore. So he gave us one final "Real Shady" album and the Coup De Grace. Like he said at the end of the interview, he's gonna focus on being Eminem the Emcee and not dwell on the past.

So, I think a lot of people are getting confused with the different personas. Marshall Mathers is the person, just the guy. Sometimes he comes through in his personal songs. Eminem is the rapper, he is the mix of Marshall and Slim. He gets personal but still mixes in some shock value to exaggerate his point. Slim Shady is the pure shock value, cartoon character which sometimes reveals a bit of the personal side. Eminem and Marshall are usually pretty much the same though. They generally are just one. So this album is mostly just Slim Shady and Eminem, with Slim Shady slowly corrupting Eminem via drugs, alcohol, the bleaching of the hair etc. Since Eminem is literally his name spelled out (Marshall Mathers = M + M = Eminem) then when Slim says Marshall, he's just talking about Eminem.
