Ivan Mendez is the guitarist. He was select by Angelina's team to accompany Angelina in this at home video. In a recent interview Ivan said he never heard Angelina sing before and did not know what to expect. The expressions on his face are genuine as this is the first time he is listening to Angelina sing. Ivan also noted he would lose concentration and make mistakes because he was mesmerized by her voice. He continued to say he knew he was in the presence of the next Super Star.

I found Angelina about 6 years ago, and because I was/am completely hooked, I spend parts of each day searching for reactions to this brilliant young lady. Stay is one of my favorites from Angelina. The subtle details she is putting on this are just incredible. This is one that I believe you haven't even really heard until you have heard it at least 10 times. There is so much going on in there. I can understand your forgetting how good she is, but it's a little different for me. I never go long enough without listening to forget how good her voice is, but she has done so many high level performances, that it can take a long time to cycle through them all, and occasionally I will go a couple months with out hearing a certain one.... and then one day I hear it again and realize I had forgotten how good that one was. This is Ivan Mendez accompanying Angelina. One of the long-time Angelina fans has made interviews with both guitarists that she's sung with frequently. Both note that most of these covers were not really planned in advance. They'd get together. Play bits and pieces of music and Angelina might pull something out of the air, asking if they knew the music. They'd work on it a few minutes and do a take. She'd tell the guitarist to just follow her for the phrasing and she's be reading the lyrics off her mobile phone. She infrequently needed more than one take and it always a one-take, no cutting and splicing. Ivan shows more emotion than does Egil the Norwegian guitarist. Here is one of my favorites, ten-year-old Angelina singing with a guitarist whose name I don't know. She's covering Cole Porter's 1944 classic "Every Time We Say Goodbye". It's on a rooftop in Osla. There is something that she does, something that voice does, that profoundly affects most of us, and no one, no one is able to explain exactly what that is. We only know that no other artist is able to do it. And it is addictive. We cannot get enough of it what ever it is. Something about that raspy smooth vibrato. Ivan Mendez felt it to, and it made it difficult for him to concentrate on playing the song.

Ivan is in an almost impossible situation when he has to learn the songs in a really short time just before a videotake. He has a lot of musical skills, and we see and hear how great a team they are. Angelinas talent must have put a lot of pressure on him to deliver, and he did a great job for her.

At the beginning you said you wanted to see what Angelina could do with this. The answer is that she can kill this song for anyone else. That is frequently true, and you should be aware of that by now even though you’re relatively new to her talent. Watch her version of Adele’s A Million Years Ago or Lana Del Ray’s Born to Die. You’ll know that Angelina’s version is now your favorite. She really is, right now at 15, clearly one of the best singers in the world. For me, she is the best I’ve ever heard, and her career is just beginning.

Great reaction again Cliff. You should take a look at the interview with Ivan with Alan Papier, another Angelina reactor. Angelina calls him up, comes over to the house, hangs out with the family for a while and then she will suggest some songs she would like to do...almost spontaneously, and they sit down and that's it...maybe 2 takes, usually 1 take and there you are, an absolutely spectacular song. This is one of her most beautiful at this early age... 12 I believe. It is jus mind boggling the talent this young girl has. She is absolutely Brilliant.

@Cliff Beats, You are absolutely correct. She does all her covers better than the original, in my biased opinion. I think it's because she sings the songs with feeling and emotion that touches us, and doesn't just 'sing'. Speaking of owning songs, wait until you react to her cover of the Bruno Mars/Adele song "All I Ask". I had never heard it before listening to Angelina sing it, so I went to Adele's video, and didn't make it half way through. I've always said, I think the songs whisper to Angelina and say "Sing us the way we were meant to be sung", and she does.

I would love a concert with Angelina and a guitar. Simple yet beautiful. I seen Eric Clapton on his Journeyman tour and while the band took a break, he just sat on a chair with his guitar and played/sang for 1/2 an hour. I will always remember that, even though it was 30 years ago.

Ivan the guitarist said that when he was doing these recordings he would go around to her families house hang out all day, then she would pick a song and half an hour later they would record. That’s why you can occasionally see her checking the words.

This may be over the top, but I'm gonna say it..When l listen to most current singers, l sometimes hear quality sound, with vocal acrobatics, and with it l also hear the gradual slipping of humanity, replaced with superficial emotionality. Cheap, operatic mello drama, that temporarly fills a void. High skill levels, with no soul. Angelina is healing, bringing us back to our best selves. To me, she is the most real singer today.

Stunning performance as always. In my opinion she almost exclusively lifts covers to a higher level with her tone and soulfulness. There`s an x-factor about her also that i just can`t fully wrap my head around, in addition of course to her unrivalled talent. I kind of like that though, makes it even more interesting. My guess is that it has to do with the aura of kindness around her and the fact that she sort of brings me back to better times in terms of the music-scene with her retro-approach to her singing. The way she uses her arms and sometimes rolls back her eyes proves that she`s completely immersed in the song as well, just awesome. And awesome reaction as well, couldn`t agree more!!
