Well done sir my first model led me onto losing it for three weeks in 1976 heatwave as the dt failed but with telephone number and a 10p as ballast the farmer that found it 40 miles away rang us and we went to collect it. now with lightweight rc good choice. crack on

The old way to built and fly a plane. The better way to learn a lot for your plane, its construction and weak points of it that you can improve from the original with knowledge and love

I would imagine gluing the template on the balso serves the dual purpose of split prevention...I like that.
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Жыл бұрын
Hi John, that's right, I didn't realise that was a bonus until I actually did it comma by the way the glue I used was just a glue stick. This means that with a small amount of water it comes unstuck from the balsa easily 🙂👍

The Veron brand played a big part in my early model-flying years. As I mentioned previously I had a Veron Deacon (1.5cc payload free-flight) and I also had a Veron BomBat -- which both used the same 1.5cc Taipan diesel engine. Ah, happy days.

Hi Cliff from NZ I down load from outerzone as well print the image on to lite weight tissue. Pre cover with plain lite tissue on under side of balsa sheet using watered down pva dry pinned down on your building board with food grade cling film and, weights EG your socket weights on top to keep it drying flat overnight . once that is dry paste down the image tissue on other side ,leave overnight with pinned down on sides and your weights The reason tissue is glued on back side ,it keeps the tension even otherwise the sheet will curve. to print tissue there is plenty of info on the net, i use pva thinned around the edges of tissue area on normal print paper held in place on a board with tape ,place tissue on and smooth out ,let dry with cling film ,card board and weights overnight . Make sure which way your printer is printing the image on the paper Face down, or face up? I have used this method many times it works great , you get a nice balsa surface to cut better clean edged parts thinned pva i think is no extra weight

Thanks for the info Warren but I have a laser printer that can't print onto tissue 😫

Thanks Adam, I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to plans, you never know when, sometimes decades later, you fancy building another. The really amazing thing is, and what I could never have foreseen, is making it radio controlled! These are truly amazing times 🙂

Hey Cliff, you Da Man ! Say when you are eight years old, growing up in one of Britain’s far flung realms, and given a Veron Slingsby Prefect glider as a gift, you have reached the seventh heaven. Muck hack is all I can describe my efforts then to create this Masterpiece, which gave me scores of hours of fun, chasing her back and forth,between banana groves, while nasty mynahs made diving attacks on the poor thing. Beaten and battered, mine flew on……and I…..flew on as an Airline pilot for forty five years and 30,000 flying hours. And here you are, bringing me back to square one where it all started. At 71, today I have downloaded the plan from OZ, and watch your videos bug eyed as a kid, hoping to create those magic moments again with another iteration of that perfect gift given an eight year old. This time I won’t be running around banana groves avoiding pesky aerial roaches. This one will be in honour of Cliff Harvey and will sit in pride of place among many other models. Thank you my brother for your wonderful videos which I watch every week. Where have all the flowers gone ? ❤❤

Hi Siva, thank you and what a marvellous picture you paint. I'm so pleased you've downloaded the plan for another go, if you're referring to the dandelions I mowed them all off 🙂 thanks for commenting 👍

Oh the Dandelions…..useful cushion for test landings weren’t they ? I was referring to that mournful ballad by Peter Paul and Mary ….We, may be the last of those balsa bashers with sticky fingers and swift legs ! 😢. I look at ALL of your project videos weekly. A Guillows Chipmunk ( which airplane I flew ) is still awaiting in the stash. I liked your ‘round the pole’ version. I am from MALAYA, that far flung realm of the Empire, I mentioned. We grew up British in every aspect. I was trained by RAF Flying Instructors, All our models were imported from the UK at great expense……..Keil Kraft, Veron, Frog !! Thank You again for your wonderful videos. God Bless ❤❤

@captsiva7581
@captsiva7581 Жыл бұрын
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Yes there is much aero modelling activity going on around these parts, though of the RTFs, Foamy kind A very small circle of the old Balsa Bashers remain. It was a good Life and I try to recreate some of that fun again. Working on a 2x Frog Raven ( senior series ) for rc.. That’s the good News. Light weight electrics and rc gear being available in our time. Your vids bring a breath of Fresh Air to my retirement , ( though I still teach budding pilots in a Flying school..) I have to say Cliff, that I am always amazed at how quickly you build your models. Like the others watching, I too had this as a starter. I don’t recall what happened, but I am sure it did not end well. But as a adult with all the tools, I would be interested to see what happens. You make it look easy. ❤

Unfortunately, balsawood is not available around here and when you order online it's not only incredibly expensive but also of highly variable quality. Sometimes if you ask for quartergrain you'll be given super-soft balsa and v/v. Such a shame, balsa models have to be flown with much more respect than their modernday foam equivalents. You get no second chances with balsa stringers and tissue or film 🙂

What a great little plane for a project Cliff! I've had this one in my 'bucket list' of collected Outerzone plans for many months. I may well now have a go at making it in some form in the future (I've already printed off the plan, stuck it together and taken a good look over it) Looking forward to the next video on covering. Good luck with this build, Tom Hallman's videos on this glider certainly show that it flies really well.

This is a great build Cliff. What do you use for those tiny hinges?
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes

Thanks Buck, I use 0.4mm fishing line, sanded for a key and a small drop of ca to hold them in place. One little bonus is you can put in more hinges than you need and if the servo is struggling you can just cut through one or two 👍
