personally i'm one of those weirdos that actually likes the devils roar. it's not my favourite region but i honestly hate the wilds (mainly talking about the islands) a lot more than the roar. also tbh if i have a really bad pvp day or just cannot be bothered to chase or be chased across half the map, i just sail into the roar to make some coin and not have to worry about enemy ships as much (as everyone apparently despises the roar). and i feel like once you get used to the roar its fairly easy to navigate and deal with whatever rare throws at you there. but i also totally understand why so many people hate it. :)

@@CliffTheStoryGuy Lol I used the Roar to stop a chaser once. Was very satisfying. He was chasing us for like 30 minutes. The map sunk his ship for us but at the cost of us almost sinking, too. Fortunately I was able to out-maneuver the majority of meteors while the ship, which was a brigantine btw, struggled. I THINK the trick is to treat it like a cannon. Volcanoes *mostly* shoot indiscriminately, but they do actually target players and ships individually as well so you need to treat them like cannons and anticipate the shots and respond accordingly as best as possible.

@@CliffTheStoryGuy I purposefully went into the Devil’s Roar for this very purpose! Fully laden with items on a solo sloop and a Galleon chased me from one side of the map to the other. I went as North East as possible and lost them amidst the volcanos and fog.

Got chased by a reaper 5 galleon, running dark parrot parts and the rainbow flag and I was solo slooping so I really wasn't looking forward for campspawn kills and "gamer words" dropping on me for the day. After an hour chasing (they ignored a fort of the damned and a Athena Brig, on our way) I saild in the devils roar because I can see the reapers on the map but they can't see me. I mean that's the most we both probably saw in total but I get what I can.

actually i can explain exactly why there was all that random athena loot: some pirates have figured out by buying the bundles of legend of the veil, vote and lower a bunch, any with the shipwrecks as the first quest will spawn in the loot. but it wont be active till a boat gets near. so you can stack multiple shipwrecks worth (like 5 to 6 if not more) and have all the loot but no ships (if you voted to cancel) no doubt you stumbled upon someone trying to do that very exploit, hense all the floatys

1:20 madman! Its a treasure chest equivalent to the shrouded ghost in rarity! (i did find it tho... for those wondering how: Athena voyage, random X dig) 4:39 mermaid staff can take care of those. You can solo destroy the red statue even underwater with them! 4:53 if you like achievements, you might want to reconsider this point. Its a darn good method of getting the achievement related to the devils roar merchant. 6:21 someone was bug abusing hard, will skip how they did it, but know that it can get you banned for replicating the bug 7:39 it appears the bug abusers were wondering where their loot has gone 8:43 send my regard to bernie that you need to shoot its jaw. However the only time I have voluntarily gone into the devil's roar was when I was chased by a reaper brigantine when I was doing my daily therapeutic commodity run and I was forced to hide behind the volcanoes while they blew me to pieces just to escape. My ship ended up sinking due to the amount of holes I had acquired due to the debris but at least it wasn't at the hands of the try hard reapers!

The loot was from an exploit where you start and cancel veil voyages to spawn the ship graveyards. Canceling the voyage de-spawns the wrecks but not the loot so it floats up and you can stack loads very quickly

I legitimately think that Devil's roar is by far the best zone in the game. Everything else feels really boring in comparison. I cannot imagine going back to doing gold hoarder missions in islands that aren't trying to kill you with volcanic activity because said volcanic activity also kills your enemies for you if you learn how work with the Volcano Spirit instead of treating it as your enemy. It's pretty easy to dodge the barrage of fireballs if you simply circle around the island instead of trying to sail directly away from it. Takes bit of practice but when you're done you'll never get hit by something like a fort ever again because you're used to dodging 10 times the amount of projectiles.

@@CliffTheStoryGuy Love your stories. I'm one of those wierdos who likes the Devils Roar. Would love to see more of your adventures in the region. Here are a few things I learned in my time sailing there that may help. There are only 2 vaults in the roar. So stacking keys for one vault is very easy. Skelly missions also complete themselves thanks to geysers. If you're into merchant, the DR cargo also allows you to stack 5 pickups (30 ish crates) with the deliveries all in a line from Galleons Grave down to Devils Ridge(no more running around the map). Each piece of ashen loot sells for double the standard equivalent. So although the volcanoes can be an interruption and certainly cost you some coin, the game does compensate you. Getting caught in the midst of an erupting volcano can easily spell disaster for you even if you have a crew. Avoiding the volcanoes is absolutely imperative. If you take frequent trips to the ferry on account of PVE, you don't belong in the roar. It is a good place for very experienced pirates that need an extra risk/challenge and have done everything else the game has to offer already. It's not a great place to learn how to do a gold hoarder vault lol. Just listen for that dreaded Crack of Doom when the island starts to tremor. And it's a good idea to have one guy on ship any time the island does start to tremor so you're ready to leave the second you hear the crack. You should either have a sword or know every black screen spot on every roar island if you are a double gunner. Have the ship aimed at a clear heading with no other volcanoes near that could possibly erupt and use Phuzzybond's silent sails tactic so you're ready at a moment notice. If you took the time to read this thank you and I hope this helps in any future voyages you may have out there.

I remember when I first started playing this game, I joined a crew mid session and was doing some voyage in the Devil's Roar. I wasn't even aware a place like that existed in the game so it was quite a shock when my controller started shaking and a flaming meat ball body-slammed our ship, eventually resulting in the loss of the largest haul (10 treasure chest) my noob self had ever seen. This was the first of many times I deleted the game.

The loot you found is from an exploit, you can spam cancel and take veil of ancient captaincy mission to spawn a ship wreck. When you cancel the shipwreck despawns but not the loot, so you spam it.

6:26 Thats probably the pasifist sloop work , for what I know there is been a bug with the Legend of the Veil Captain voyage. People vote and cancel it and for some reason the shipwrecks despawn but the loot does not (there is the bug). The reason the sloop was sailing to that direction was actually because the crew probably knew that the loot was there and that they wanted to fish it , of course as you saw this does not always work , since sometimes the loot sinks before you get there. So you basically sank someone who was exploting a bug :)

Oh man, the 'Roar. My first few days of sailing as a fresh-faced pirate with my friend who's played since day 1 but took a break at some point, returning in Season One. I believe it was my second week of playing and I was in love with the game, naturally so did the urge pop up for me to look deeper into what I can unlock, find, fight, earn, etc. And I had familiarized myself with THE BOX. Amazingly, we'd found it only a couple days later and while my friend had no idea what it was, I was hyped. My expectation on how rare it was was horribly twisted though because I thought "if this is the rarest thing in the game and I already found it, every other piece of loot must be around every corner, right?" haven't seen it since in a year+ of gameplay. On another note, even if I'm tired of the 'Roar from the Athena grinding to 20 before they raised the cap and introduced LotV, the area will always hold a special place in my heart.

my crew and i call the roar our home. we spend so much time there. a lot of the battle is coordination. the second an earthquake begins someone goes to the boat while the rest of the crew keeps doing the voyage. once the black smoke begins, that person sails away immediately and parks out of range of the volcano while the crew finds a place to stay on the island. our crew just gets a feel for how to operate there and it’s very rewarding

I just introduced my friend to the roar with an ashen vault voyage. XD. We had found 4 outta 5 map fragments and of course didnt have the X yet. So we started digging on the island desperately. Eventually i decided to go sail off to find the last fragment while he kept digging. He dealt with constant phantoms skeles and crawlers on top of never ending geysers making it impossible to dig. I find the map fragment and sailed back and found the totem pretty quick. Its worth mentioning at this point that we were digging at fetchers rest. One of the only 2 islands in the roar where a vault is located. But of course the totem we dug up was for ashen reaches. All the way across the island. So we pull up to ashen reaches and its volcano starts erupting. So we sail out of range and i just fish while we wait for it to end. We clear out the vault of all loot. And began running it to the shore so we can harpoon it. Guess what? Volcano starts erupting AGAIN. and of course our ship is parked right next to it. So my buddy stays on the ship and constantly repairs it while i continue ferrying loot. Eventually it stops and we harpoon all the treasure and sell it at morrows peak. XD. It was peak roar experience.

I can explain the random loot and the athena sloop coming over. There was a glitch few weeks ago which allows u to pop a captain voyage of the legend of the veil then cancel it, and everytime u get a shipwreck the loot inside will float which creates a ton of loot in the water where the shipwreck spawned. The reason why the naked athena 1 sloop rolled over to u was because they were doing this glitch and probably knew that u have their stuff.

I've seen the scattered Athena loot bug before. Was doing a Legend of the Veil that took us into the Devil's Roar and for some reason the galleon graveyard spawns in the Roar will make all the loot surface save for the Veil stone.

Last Weekend I tried to do my first Ashen Athena Voyage. At first I was a little hesitant of going into The Devil's Roar as I heard many horror stories about the place but it was surprisingly peaceful (excluding all the geysers of course). I eventually got to the last task to, which was a skeleton bounty. Unfortunately the island I was going had a active volcano resting right by my destination. So my smooth brained mind decided to wait right outside the "splash zone", not knowing that a volcano's area of effect increases gradually I just kept waiting at the same spot. Eventually a MASSIVE rock collided with my ship sending my soul to the Dammed itself. I did the usual you know; respawn, fix the mast, board holes. Literally right after I finished repairing another rock hit my ship. Thankfully it barely killed me, I did the usual, again, and then ANOTHER rock hit my ship sending me to The Ferry Of The Dammed. At this time I was a gaining nerve as I wasn't quite done bucketing at my temporary death, and as I respawned I hear the terrifying sound of my ship just sinking. *ding* that sound triggered me so hard that I quite the session at that second. Though, thankfully I'm not the one to slam my controller on the ground and start yelling lol.

SoT solo surviving volcano 101: If you feel the shaking, start retreating to your ship. If you hear the rocks(50/50 chance during earthquake), it will guaranteed erupt in about 30 seconds: decide now if you have enough time to flee or be prepared to wait it out inside the bottom of the ship. (Eruptions last 5-10 minutes) You will go through a lot of wood and food waiting it out. Prioritize keeping one hole for endless water and only put out bottom flames. You will likely get crushed if you try going up to put out the rest. Only repair the rest of the ship once the eruption ends. Ashen voyages are my go-to nowadays! I almost forget snakes exist in the game lol

Alright Cliff, gotta give it to you: I'm waiting for your content like a hungry dog for its Bone. Your storytelling is amazing and I enjoy watching every episode so much! As for the big loot pile, you may or may not have heard the "new" method of farming a bunch of gold by buying the new Athenas lost shipwreck voyage bundles. Basically, some other players on your server have activated these voyages and canceled them again, doing this with the whole bundle (or 50, if they maxed it out). What happens is that these sunken wrecks spawn this tons of loot, but it only appears when you get near the location, even when the voyage is not active anymore.

The random loot you found was a cancelled shipwreck graveyard from the LOTV. If you cancel it the loot just floats to the surface

YOOOOOO 6:10 that random bunch of treasure spawning in happened to me and some friends yesterday. I almost thought it was like a school of fish rare added or something, but once we got up closer it was all treasure. Super weird, not sure what caused it. We thought maybe it was a bugged out skeleton fleet, but seeing it the video idk what it is.

i would say the literal only reason i like it other than getting the cool skins is because there's just never anyone there, so with an emissary flag it makes it sooooo much easier to make money

The one thing I like about the hell hole that is the devils roar is that it's the unofical PVE mode for when you are sick of other people.

Dude! That glitch with the loot happened to me and another ship in our alliance yesterday! It was actually next to reapers hideout. There was a ton of mermaid gems and ancient unique relics and captain skulls! No Athena’s loot but still that was a lot of stuff that just appeared out of nowhere!

6:50 there is a new bug with legends of the veils where if you start and cancel voyages it spawns the shipwrecks missions but when you cancel it despawns the shipwreck but not the loot. So all the glitched loot floats to the surface.

I've spent a lot of time in the roar grinding athena rep. Got up to 18 I think when the legend of the veil was released. I'm glad I can say goodbye to ashen athenas.

One of my favorite memories in the Roar came very early in my career. Had no idea what I was doing or that volcanoes were a thing. Was parked at an island when the one on the island erupted. Spent an eternity simply cowering below deck on my sloop while bailing and repairing as I could. Too scared to try to reach the wheel and sail out so just sat there and took the rocks. Saved the ship I’m proud to say.

The floating loot is a big where canceling an athena sunken ship captains voyage despawns the ship, but not the loot if I remember correctly.

You can get some of the veil quest in the Roar. I had a ship wreck graveyard there once

As a merchant, whose only real interaction with the Devil's Roar is Morrow's Peak and the occasional map I found elsewhere, I can say I like the place well enough. It's saved my bacon a couple of times and I always like how easy it is to navigate to versus somewhere like Galleon's Grave.

the big weird spot of loot you found is a bug that's been going around, basically when two of the Legend Of The Veil shipwrecks spawn in the same spot, it despawns all the ships but the loot still floats to the top. happened to me and my crew the other day during our LOTV voyage but there were way more gems and no athena loot at all for some reason

I'm VERY new to the game. I did my first world event today. Was the skull fort on the volcano (molten sands? I think?). Did it solo and while it was hard as hell I had a blast. Took me forever to get all that loot out to the sloop and into the merchants lol

I actually was in the Devil's Roar, taking advantage of the inactivity due to the newest adventure and I remembered some of the tips and tricks of this video...none of it mattered unfortunately as I found the darn thing just sitting on an island. It did feel nice to find and sell it, though.

6:24 I have found something like that to just south west of smugglers bay. a random bit of floating loot that is starting to sink. it was all normal stuff tho like gems and skulls.

The random Athena stuff is a new glitch with the sunken ships, where if you keep cycling veils, it just spits loot out when the ships were, not sure why it’s in the devils roar though

Cliff the mystery loot that appeared at 7 minutes in the video were the other athena dudes doing a glitch that just got patched with the september update. Essencialy when you start a veil if you get the shipwreck bit and cancel the voyage all the loot stayed in the water. Again was patched now.

devils roar is my favorite, but toning down the frequency of the geysers would be nice though. besides that the rest is pretty managable. 9:41 and i use that as an opportunity to fish for devilfish

Spent all morning today running between Cursewater Shores and Brian’s Bazaar fishing, and scored two ashen athena chests the day before. All the while, nary a pirate came my way! One of the only ships I saw across two days was an athena galleon stacking all the loot the Roar had to offer. They were all too keen on alliancing rather than being pestered for their loot, and part of their haul helped carry me the last leg to athena grade 10! The devil’s roar is the place to be if you don’t want to be pestered by pesky or overly persistent pirates new to the seas.

I AM SO GLAD YOU FOUND THE ATHENA VEIL GLITCH!!! Only because it happened to me while sailing with two other buddies on some random guy’s sloop, and I barely managed to spot a red glint. I almost didn’t anchor us! When we scooped it all up we were debating all the possibilities of how it got there, not knowing about the glitch!

6:10 i had the exact same thing happen to me yesterday, i was going to an outpost to sell and saw trinkets like gilded chalices in the water, stopped the ship and there were tons of skulls, trinkets, mermaid gems and etc, i thought it was a kraken at first but there was no kraken food in the water as well as some of the items being too rare for a kraken drop, second thought was a skeleton ship but the loot was spread out across a very wide area, couldn't have been a player ship for the previous reason as well. maybe it is a glitch of some kind?

Cliff... that Athena loot was my loot! What you do is you despawn a shipwreck by voting down the legend of the veil after voting it up and it puts all the loot on top of the water. No wonder when I despawned it I couldn’t find the loot, that is for sure mine because it was supposed to be next to fletchers rest. I can’t believe I was on your server and didn’t see you!!!

the athena items you found is a new glitch! You know when there are these shipwrecks at the legend of the veil... yeah they despawn as soon as you cancel the voyage the loot doesnt. I dont wanna go in to deep tho, all im saying is its been around on forums for a few weeks.

I actually think that the devils roar is the close 2nd favorite for me. There’s something about the knowledge that you work for your gold without pvp, volcanos taking its place. I love pvp as much as the next reaper, but I’m new and the first time I went there with my teammate, I got a (to me) unbelievable amount of 400,000. I actually really don’t like it going solo, but with someone else, stacking vaults is just too easy, and you can get some sick “spread pics” with the vaults, too.

I've only seen another ship once in the devils roar and it was a new player, you could tell by the way they anchored themselves at an island that had a volcano on it, the volcano became active and they were sank
