Hard to admit that some days you are struggling, but very brave and important of you to say it out loud, there's no shame in it. Huge respect to you. Am going through my FarmFLix videos, you meet some great characters and have such a laugh. Question I always want to ask is when you are interviewing someone doing road work in their tractors have you ever felt a nervous passenger?

Honestly... No. Complete trust in these guys BUT did become very aware of the fact it's only a bit of glass keeping us safe when the window popped in the Fendt sat beside Johnny Boggs one evening!

I've just looked up the highway code and the 2 bits that jump out about joining from slip roads are, -- "give priority to traffic already on the motorway " and -- "check the traffic on the motorway and match your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane " Some take the first to mean 'give way' to traffic on the motorway. I disagree with that because you can't fulfill the second if you're giving way to everything in lane 1. I think you should pace yourself to slot into a space and that traffic on the main carriageway should make it easier for you to join, so move into lane 2 so you have a clear lane or ease off a bit to let a safer gap to open up for you to slot into when they can't change lanes. If I'm driving on a motorway (although I don't do it that often) I will try and move over for merging traffic as it's the safest option for everyone when it can be done. Observation and reducing risk regarding what you see is a huge part of advanced driving like that that 'IAMRoadSmart' and 'RoSPA' teach, and this should be the minimum. These would fail you if you failed to react to merging traffic on a motorway by, for example, moving right by a lane to help them join safer. Too many drivers think you have to give way on a slip road as can be seen in UK dashcam compilations (I have watched quite a few of them :) ), with the over cautious stopping at the end of sliproads, and the self entitled on the carriageway blocking merging traffic from joining in front of them, both potentially deadly actions to pull. As you can probably see, I get easily frustrated with incompetent drivers too. :)

John says when he did his HGV instructor trainging he had to move to the right in preparation / expectation of vehicles coming down the ramp even before he could see them
@markwright31614 жыл бұрын
@@farmflix Makes sense because if anything overtakes or comes alongside when joining it's going to be there for a long time, longer than slip roads would allow, so moving over 'early' removes the risk of that happening. I could see cars getting annoyed though on 2 lane motorways if there isn't anything joining, but it doesn't take much to do that for some of the road users today. :)

John is right about the motorway, when joining you should match the speed of the traffic in the left lane or drive faster, nobody will run into the back of you if you are faster than them. Also it’s common courtesy to move from the left lane into the right lane if it’s safe to do so to allow room for cars to merge from the left. 👍

Strictly speaking nobody has to move over to let people off the ramp. The broken line at the exit means 'give way'. Its a junction. The traffic already on the road has the right of way. You expecting people to move over is more to do with manners, not the actual rules.

The single farm payment is complete EU nonsense. We need to go back to the system that was in place before we joined, which was the annual price review which set a standard price for qualifying produce that the food industry had to pay. We need to bring back the milk marketing board too. I think it is up to you farmers to shout long and hard at your various devolved governments, but we need a UK wide policy. Payments just for farmers, not speculators.
@farmflix4 жыл бұрын
Good call Wendy
@nigelclats69704 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately,until Dairy farmers learn to actually sit down together as they did here in NZ,ie,Fonterra,they will always be price takers at the mercy of supermarkets,who have always used milk and bread as loss leaders The difference here is that Fonterra set the price per kg/milk solids.
