You are in my neck of the woods. I have been through this area many times. My husband and I ate at the Bowmanstown Diner and came through here often. We never even knew there was a trail up this steep mountain. Awesome views! Great hike; I'm glad you took us along. That first plant you saw with the pink/purple flower is called a Bleeding Heart. It is perennial. It is great sitting here in Florida and having you take me down memory and showing me new things. Keep up the good work!

My ancestor, who brought my family name over, is supposed to be buried at Lehigh Furnace.... a Christian Laufenor ( Loughner) from Germany. Came over in 1752 on the Phoenix.

Hi. Enjoyed this video - thanks. I'm hiking the AT through PA next year in two hikes, and have heard about this climb. Doesn't sound too long, just steep... God Bless

Scientific name is Dicentura. It’s native to North America and so not an invasive species. There is in this area quite a bit of butterfly bushes or proper scientific name, buddleja which is an invasive species.

I have not done this section of the AT. I was always concerned about that climb. Getting an idea of how it looks makes it a bit less intimidating. Plus, I did not know there was an alternate hike back down, so you don't have to down climb through those rocks. I would not want to do that. Also...how many miles for the loop...and did you see any snakes? Thanks so much.

Oh this video does not show in in places it is almost a vertical rock climb at the top. You literally have to climb rocks and they are smoother so can be a bit slippery.

I wanted to ask your advice for suggestions if it's ok. Every year we go as a family to Pittsburgh for Steelers games ,and wondering if you can suggest any family hiking spots local to the city. It would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've read some good things about Ohiopyle state park and the surrounding area, Ferncliff peninsula natural area and Bear Run nature preserve. It's southeast of Pittsburg, it may be a bit outside the 1 hour time range though, but can't say for sure.

joseph maher dunno if you’ll see this but the slippery rock gorge trail is your best bet for a fun, slightly difficult, trail - it’s in McConnell’s mill state park - cheers
