Hey Bino! Love your vids! I'm 84, 85 next Feb. and still climbing. I know, I don't understand how it's possible, but I just love being in a tree and am blessed with a youthful strength and body. I high climbed and rigged in the woods before I retired. Began arborist work after retirement. Not day to day steady anymore, just as needed and when I get the opportunity... 🙃

I’m fast approaching 60 and have destroyed my back as a career carpenter. I got into saddle hunting and SRT climbing as a way to cut down on the weight I carried into the woods. I can no longer put a 35 pound climbing stand on my back and walk half a mile in with the rest of my gear too. I started one sticking but the twisting movement needed to make a move was too much. SRT and DRT using a foot loop and an ascending device has made it relatively easy to get up to hunting height. It also cut down the weight I carry significantly! I know you are geared towards the Arborist but your applications and techniques crossover to the bow hunter also. I do want to add that I’ve never felt safer twenty feet up in a tree as I do tied in with my saddle and rope. Thanks for another great video Bino ! God bless!

Great vid B! As a sixty year old climber, I'd like to emphasize the hearing protection segment. In youth, we never considered hearing protection, so between open header race cars, motorcycles, firearms, rock-n- roll, etc, I now have a 4000hz turbo singing in my head 24/7 that seems louder at night when the world goes quiet. I'd heard about hearing damage but assumed sounds would just be quieter, NOT! If you want to try it, play a 4k test tone on your phone as long as you can stand it, then imagine not being able to turn it off... Take Bino's advice on PPE and don't worry what the "tough guys" think. I wear it every time now and wish I'd started years ago! Thank You Bino for your vid's, they've been very helpful over the years.

Hi Bino, I enjoy your content. I'm 65 and I can rope climb, but I'm gassed by the time I get up to where I have to work, so I got wiser with how I now operate. Last May I came across a life changer devise on the KZbin channel, "HowNot2". The devise is kind of spider-man type tool called Awah Z2R drill powered pulley. It is a bit pricey at $1,600, but you can get up into the canopy and be as fresh as when you left the ground. And bonus, it is mid-line attachable...

When I had my wood fired pottery kiln, I would climb & trim the limbs of mostly Pines for fuel without any ropes, just a handheld 24" trim saw. Wish I knew more about tree work when I was younger, I could have made some decent money to support my art & a family..

This is a great topic to explore. I'm just learning in my early 40's, and I haven't thought of a lot of these ideas in the context of my age. I hope this can become a series- Old Timer Climber is too good to use for just one video! I haven't heard the topic of age discussed in a practical way on too many other channels, either.

Hi Bino. Thanks for all you do. Watching your videos encouraged me to teach myself to rope climb and trim my palm trees. After much experimentation I have settled on climbing double rope placed around one palm frond. I use two longhorn agile knots (JRB treeclimbing) tied around both strands of rope. One knot is attached to my harness, and the other has a spanish bowline attached giving two foot loops. Acending is by alternating progression of the two knots up, reversing to decend. Slow and steady but easy cause at just shy of 75y/o I'm in no hurry 😉. I'll still be doing this when I turn 100, I hope. From downunder thanks and best wishes. PaulW.

i’m glad you made a video for the aging lol , i’m 60 and i’ve climbed about 44 or better years , my body is so damaged im only part time climbing now and i have to say i love it but my parts hurt so bad i might have to, i’ve even changed my diet and try to stay in the best shape i can but im just a walking talking piece of scar tissue, matter a fact i have to finish up a couple tall cedars today and get my ropes , in my younger days i would have done two of these a day now it takes me two days 😝

Dear mr bino thanks for your videos i had a couple of questions i recently repelled down a palm tree for my first time it went okay i just wasn't used to trusting my equipment i used a adjustable friction saver and a hitch climbers pulley with a michuacan prusik my questions is how do i know when my prusik cord is not safe anymore because my rope is black and when i got down to the ground my prusik looked black im not sure if it is from the rope color or if from the friction from repelling down hkw can i know when to replace?
@BinoH2 ай бұрын
You should inspect in the same way you inspect a rope. If you're concerned about the cover of you prussik check to see if it's melted.

The only thing that scares me about SRS with a basal anchor is it doubles my bodyweight on the rope whereas in MRS my body weight is halved. I simply do not trust canopy anchor points as I cannot accurately judge the true condition of the anchor point that is 100’ up in a tree while standing on the ground. While it is true that the canopy anchor crotch I choose for MRS suffers from the same issue (judging its quality from the ground) in MRS I can throw my line over more than one branch while in SRS I can only anchor my canopy anchor to one branch crotch. I weigh 280 lbs and use a rope with a WLL of just 800 lbs. in SRS, I am stressing my rope to around 65% of its rated WLL. Add a chainsaw, PPE, and other gear and that % increases further. I am thought about trying tower climbing ropes, which have a greater WLL; however, those do not come with manufactured eye loops that I use to connect my ascender/descender rig. The resulting knot I would have to connect my rope to my ascender/descender would make me even bulkier while traveling in the canopy. I would love to have your expert opinion on these points as I fully see the huge benefits to SRS vs MRS.
@BinoH2 ай бұрын
I feel the same way about the base anchor it's not my favorite to use. I prefer the canopy anchor and in this way my weight on the branch is the same as MRS. You have more that on option to advance the tree this way. Have a look at this video and let me know if it will work for you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/naiUeXttbZWpZ6Msi=Hx9MItulB21f4j0Q
