Join Dan (climbing Arborist & Grizzly tree experts) on a glorious Winters day out in western Canada soaking up the sunshine with snow on the ground. Dan is tasked with 2 Western Hemlock trees to remove, 1 live and 1 very nearly dead. The job is to get the trees down safely and leave all debris on site (which is nice). There are a few things to avoid (house and power lines) so we decided to bring the trees down the safe way, in small pieces.

Did you get a little nervous there brother?? Well I'm glad that you are man enough to admit that you're a little scared at times because I'm scared all the time when I'm on the ground LOL

Minus 5 Fahrenheit is definitely cold. Minus 5 Celsius is just cold. I'll avoid either.

What is the purpose of installing the pull line?

Allright... So.... When and how and why do you choose to use the chainsaw and when the handsaw? Seems totally random to me.....
@adamworboys9732
@adamworboys9732 5 жыл бұрын
Handsaw when he needed to keep hold of the branch been cut. Chainsaw when you can let the branch drop without holding on to it, therefore keeping two hands on thw chainsaw whilst using it.

What's the purpose of the two little cuts you make on either side before you cut the trunk? Like at 8:24 I've seen a lot of guys do those or multiple on each side but I've never heard anyone explain them.

This technique is mainly used on coniferous trees, it is done to prevent the bark holding on and ripping down the stem instead a clean break with the hinge. It can give the climber a bit of a surprise and pull on the lanyard (with larger tops) as well as potentially altering the fall direction of the piece (slightly). Its more of a habit on small pieces

AliK ZeY Sure! This model is smaller, more portable, so it is better to use when standing on top of the tree. It's lighter.

Why don't you like hemlock ?
@ClimbingArborist
@ClimbingArborist 6 жыл бұрын
They often seem weak, always fail here on the Westcost sometimes with no signs of defects from the outside, and they often get attacked by decay.

Climbing Arborist they use to be very abundant here in SC we still have some but they are very sickly. They where attacked by some type of wood beetle before my time. I have a huge co-dominant One on my property that has dead tops from lighting strike that has to be climbed. I'm not familiar with the wood so thanks for the heads up
