A blood culture is a microbiological culture of a peripheral blood sample. As blood is usually a sterile environment, culturing can show the presence of a systemic infection, such as septicaemia.

great thank you for the video, the only part I would struggle with palpating and then loosening to tournequette. It would make more sense to apply tournequette, palpate, anchor, clean above anchor point, draw blood. That way I wouldn't loose sight of the vein. Or would that be inaccurate?

I know what you mean Adnan. Hospital policies suggest to palpate then remove tourniquet etc.. but of course then you lose the vein and have to palpate AGAIN. happened all the time on the ward. Sometimes the real life nursing doesnt match up to correct procedure 😂 I think its because if the tourinquet is on too long it can affect the potassium results and make it seem higher than it is
