It's not all that surprising ppl don't recognize him. But he has been the USMNT most important player of the last 12 years, not Donovan. Donovan was important for MLS, but he made a mistake not building his game a bit in Europe when he had the chance. The fact that Donovan played well at Everton proved he had what it took.
