The Seahawks traded what many calculate to be the equivalent of a fifth round pick for Sam Howell, a quarterback entering his third year, who started all 17 games last year for the Washington Commanders. One day later, former first round pick and multi-year Bears starter Justin Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a sixth round pick. Did the Seahawks make a huge mistake trading for Howell instead of Fields? Could that have even traded for Fields?

First, the Steelers declined his option so Seattle could technically still get him. The issue with Justin was timing. He's a 1 year rental and he's gonna wanna get paid and at that time I don't think Seattle even had their new coaching staff. So didn't know what offense they would be running, etc.

Casey, on the chance that you're not high on Fields only because he might end up on Your Team, you'll love the below. Alex, I'm giving you side-eye. 🤨 Why? Well do you remember when Bellichick discovered Mac Jones was seeking help outside the Pats (& Matt Patricia)? Try to imagine now what we all would have though had Bill Said Nothing. Right. We'd all think Mac would be on the next bus to Carolina. We would _know_ they were on the outs with each other had Bill said nothing. Fields called out hos own coaches publicly _TWICE!_ Do you remember what was said? Right, *nothing.* Not the owner, not the HC, not the GM who hired him expressed Any Concern About the QB they supposedly were trying to make things work with.& when was this? Mid-'22. & there's more. *WAY* more. Count how many times pass rushers are allowed through to Fields untouched in just the 1st 23 minutes of kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJrMfGVni998ldE. Aaron Rodgers' achilles snapped on just *one such play.* How many quarters do you think Brady or he could have lasted with that amount of damage because those guys couldn't have evaded it? Y'all seem to be taking WAY too many of your opinions from the Public Consensus because how can you miss seeing that Goff, Tua, Cousins & about 65% of all QBs wouldn't be merely sacked, they'd be hospitalized by this? Matt Eberflus must have you all hypnotized. Here's a guy with Zero Experience as HC or calling any offense & in 3 weeks he's got everyone so enamored with him they don't blink or question when he boasts about limiting what plays the offense is allowed to use on a team with a simpler offense than Matt Canada's. He comes in & installs a boring "hand the ball off X3 then toss a slant or screen repeat" offense, cancels the plays that made their offense 2X as productive _twice_ & all anyone can say is "Fields sure does look unsteady at times." Gee, with his Entire O-line Allowing Pass Rushers Through Untouched? Go _figure!_ Find me another half of any game by any other team with that many ignored or gifted pass rushers. Look at the play at 22:45 & tell me that's normal, an o-linesman running away from his own block & into his own teammate knocking him off his. Imagine being Fields & seeing his own teammates do this to him & he goes onto the sidelines to find his Own Coaches are 1005 okay with all this. It's amazing he didn't have a nervous breakdown or isn't doing time for murdering Eberflus. There is *No **_WAY_* this goes unnoticed by the Entire Coaching Staff _unless_ the HC is okay with it all. & I'm still not done. But I also don't know if y'all want to have this conversation.

Im not sure where you think im low on fields. I loved him in college, preferred him over Lawrence, and am very sad that he has been mismanaged to this point. Now he’s one year away from free agency and one of the most unique and unconventional talents in a league that won’t invest in him like he deserves.

@@ChewsCarefully in this video I am talking about how I like him more but it was an impossibly bad time for him to find a new team. One year left or a super expensive 5th year option (the Steelers declined it) and you’d have to engineer an offense around his skills with no guarantee he’d return if successful.

@@CaseyMcLainComedy I think you may be 'hearing' a much more argumentative tone in my comments than I'm intending. I'm not trying to argue anything. I'm adding stuff I don't think you know about. I know, most people come to social media to pound everyone else into assuming their POV. Sorry for being different. I linked one video to show that you're understating things. But again, unless someone *looks for* these things they'll likely miss them. It's more than "they didn't do well by him." Those plays could have ended the careers of QBs. That play I singled out is nuts, but it's not even the only time that one happens in that game, not the only play of its kind in that half game, not the only game in which these take place. These aren't NFL o-linesmen trying their best but failing. Coaches call o-line plays. If these aren't the plays they're calling, those linemen get benched. So his coaches are calling these plays. Between that & the Entire Team failing to respond to him when he spoke publicly I'm pointing out that this wasn't a passive failure. & I still haven't mentioned Every Sign Eberflus & Poles gave that they planned to oust Fields No Matter What. & if they want to move on from him, they need to actively take steps to make him seem inept. Those o-linesmen aren't all accidentally allowing pass-rushers through untouched.

Everybody jump on the bandwagon and slam Howell. This is ridiculous. He played for a trash OL with the Commanders which gave no pocket and had someone in his face constantly. People need to cut him some slack and give him a chance with a the Seahawks with hopefully a better OL. He is a talented QB and he will prove his worth.

Watch the film of Fields throwing from the pocket and reading a defense. Be warmed it's a horror show. He can run. So what, he can't throw. Howell has shown you more on film in 1 year than Fields has in 3. Fields as shown you how to never win as a QB. A good QB wins now and then even with a bad team. Fields overall couldn't. I'd take Howell over Fields any day of the week.

Its the UNDERImagination that is killing black QBs, You DONT have to retool the whole roster around RUNNING QB style that is proven not to work, You need a BALANCED offensive plan then ADD mobilty as the X factor, not the WHOLE plan, ALa CAM its too easy to stop ONE person, and JORDAN /LeBron/Elway VS the world DOESNT work NEVER HAS System plus QB weapon, Worked for Steve Young (led the league) @SF AFTER TB CUT HIM !!! Justin needs a System, a run game, a way to get a 1st down that ISN'T QB risk, and a Shootout package , so its not Nebraska vs Mia, losing the Orange Bowl by 28 in the 1st q and cant come back becuase they arent built for that? thats waht kept happening to Lamar, happened to Cam in the SB, and sadly the retooling for BLack qBS is MORE RBs, (Vince young got 3 RBS, drafted while 12 catch justin gage was top return WR Beef up RUN OL, but Eschew pass protection, black qb coaches have NO idea how to use a TE and DONT, so there a giant COLD zone between the hashes, (the part you need to DOMINATE if you run, SF does, mia does, SEA WOUDLNT, ask Greg Olson, We just released Dissly closing another wasted TE chapter. then after 3 yrs of failure we get them ONE WR Dak, Jalen, Lamar All have to play for YEARS with NO receivers, Mayfield, Burrows, Start with THREE WR1, and two RBs1, Justin got NONE of that, Shabby OL, Finally got ONE target, No run game, Fields passing stats 1st 3 yrs equal to drew brees, Without an LT (1,200) yds rushing to take 30 plays OFF per game, Justin gets 20 CARRIES during what are normal QB breaks, Justin needs to be envisioned as the passer who LED THE NCAA in accuracy, and now according to you, cant hit the broad side of a barn, .8% behind BREES at same age, GO CHECK, and get the WHITE QB plan wide receivers A coach who KNOWS how to pass, and has succeeded ANYWHERE else black qbs get EXPERIMENTAL nepotism hires Cam - Shula Lamar- Pee Wee ball Greg Roman (A+ Run coach, D pass) Russ- Schottenheimer (A+ Run coach, D pass) then we got Waldron who NEVER called plays before, Russ left SEA to get these things and got NEPOTISM HACKETT who cant manage a clock, TURNS OUT happened to Josh allen too, so perhaps its more MOBILITY (and not knowing what to do with it, (Ps, Harbaugh does) so the FEAR around building around EXPLOSIVENESS makes you revert to the familiar and the inert #Quicksilvercoach #BCTheQB #2xAAQB coached 6 others including myself #PacNWFbHOf Current #NFLMinorityCandidate threw for 565 yrds 6 tds on Sam Adams semi pro team on NFL films (my 1st start) my cousin mike Wilson QB in college, has 4 rings as WR with SF

If you can watch the film Brees was a better QB and you could see it on film. He could actually play QB. Fields can run. How many run first QBs have won the SB? I'll help you to date none. You have to be able to read a defense and get the ball out of your hand. At this point in his career Fields can't. It why he holds the ball all day. He has no clue what to do with it. You have to make plays out of the pocket. Fields can't. If a QB needs a team full of all pros on offense to be good, he wasn't good in the first place. That's Fields up to this point in his career. The team has to carry him he's not carrying the team.

While you're not _wrong_ about your main points, I'm gonna throw some nuance on it. Justin Herbert & Trevor Lawrence have also been sabotaged by their own play-callers. So it's not 100% _about_ race - but I will never discount that as a factor, & it's not 100% about coaches not being able to scheme properly around great rushing QBs. You have to understand the mentality of NFL team owners. They're _business_ owners. If the Lions could make it being that big a losing franchise for that many decades why would you want to spend more $ to make, what, _slightly_ more in jersey sales? I don't even know if the profit % would make up for the extra cost of paying staffers etc. for the duration of the playoffs. They see players as employees & coaches as a sort of buffer class between them & the employees. As a result, any time a coach seems 'player-friendly' it looks to the owners from their upper-class bubble that their supporting buffer class has betrayed them. This is why Rich Bisaccia got so disrespectfully replaced by Josh McDaniels. This is why Matt Patricia hasn't had difficulty finding work. Tyrannical personalities make great supervisors. If those are what owners want, those are what the NFL is gonna have. As I said I'll never discount race. There are going to be times when it's either The Main Reason or just enough of a factor for people not to care. Lamar gets _tons_ of this. Fields? Well, he's not being replaced by a White QB. But what about when the battle is between the Black QB & the White coach? I know I'm dealing with a racist when they blindly chirp "Greg Roman helped Lamar with His Issues." Why does this tell me they're racist? Ask them "what issues?" When did the Ravens come out & tell Us The Public & therefore all other NFL teams that their QB "Had Issues" they could exploit? _Never!_ Just the fact that people believe this is enough to tell me they will defend Lamar's White Savior. I can link 4 videos showing Roman completely undermined the entire Ravens offense for three straight years. The run game too. Someone commented that their 8-year-old knew what side they were running the ball to because Roman always sent the man in motion opposite it. If he wasn't being paid to sabotage Lamar's chances of netting the huge contract then wtf were the Ravens employing him for? But that still may be a $ thing more than or instead of a race issue. But I think that the _fans_ would have responded differently. See, the unproven Kenny Pickett's fans chanted Matt Canada out of town in about a year. Lamar & Fields are way better, both clearly sabotaged by their own play-callers but not one peep out of the fans about it. They couldn't have done this without the fans supporting it being done. But there's still Herbert & Lawrence. Nothing's being whined about in their cases either. It's not always clear, sadly.

Comparing contracts for 2025..........Sam Howell = $1 million.....Fields = $25 million.......""IF" you are looking for an economical backup, a year from now, Sam provides a much cheaper backup for 2025......Fields would be prohibitively too expensive to be a backup in 2025......and Fields may or may not ever become a TOP 12 QB (Fields' 2023 rushing numbers were near pedestrian)

@@poorsportspodcast Fans tend to see draft picks as the next Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Richard Sherman, etc depending on the round, they always project the maximum return. I see draft picks as off season currency. You use them as currency to fill out your roster for the current season and sometimes for future seasons. The fact that we give them an arbitrary numerical value completely bypasses the fact that it mostly still comes down to luck. You do your due diligence, make the best decision for your team on the information you have based on probability, and hope for the best. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
