Just watched this for the first time last night, and loved it. Great tribute to TV's early days, and a terrific, side-splitting, and impressively physical performance from the great Peter O'Toole, whose Alan Swann should be considered in the same tier of cinematic icon as his Lawrence of Arabia.

@@richardgornalle4536 The movie was mostly a comedy, which generally don't get critical acclaim. Nonetheless, it's a gem of a sleeper, and I attribute most of that to O'Toole's character and performance.

I love this movie. I’ve saw it in 1983 and then got the VHS version in 1993 and the DVD version a few years later but the DVD got lost after I saw it every night for a week. I wish I could find another copy of this great film!

My parents and brother loved this movie, I first saw it a few years ago and also enjoyed it. Peter O’Toole was such a wonderful actor! This movie is loosely based on the experiences of young writers Mel Brooks and Woody Allen who were working on Your Show of Shows when Errol Flynn was appearing.

When this first came out, I read that it was based on when Carl Reiner had to be Errol Flynn's handler when Flynn was slated to be on Sid Caesar's TV show.
