"There's no place like home" is an adage that breezy, affable Wally Gator (voiced by Daws Butler) needs to learn again and again. A true people-person alligator, Wally is driven by his excessive curiosity and bon vivant inclinations to seek out new experiences outside of the city zoo where he hangs his porkpie hat. Donning a variety of hilarious disguises, Wally escapes the care of dedicated zookeeper Twiddle (voiced by Don Messick) only to end up crying, "Oh, fuddle-dee-doo!" as he lands himself in a series of ever more ridiculous (and dangerous!) jams. Whether he's getting confused with a dragon by a clan of medievalist monster fighters, almost becoming the final ingredient in a witch's magic potion or becoming a stunt gator in Hollywood action pictures, Wally is always relieved when he finally makes his way back to Twiddle and the zoo...only to saunter off the very next day!

I grew up watching this and many other Hanna Barbera cartoons. The Flintstones, the Jetsons, and Johnny Quest were always my faves, still are. Remember Groovey Goolies from around 1976? I don't know who produced them but they were good. Scooby-Doo has scripts adults can watch and not feel foolish.

I wonder what H-B really had in mind with Wally. The theme & its scenes have him in a swamp; but the entire series plots have him in a zoo. I doubt 52 episodes could be written about swamp life & no "keeper" to have him in line. Have there been any stories about this?

I was disappointed at first with the intro quality, but once the cartoon started, i was thrown by how sharp and gorgeous the colours are, Especially with Wally. I had no idea he wasnt actually yellow but instead has a Kind of chartreuse green nose and belly... Kind of threw me off. But still, the colours are great. Can't wait to see how good Lippy looks when that comes out.

Paul Frees was originally cast as Wally, but given the possible vocal similarities to Captain Peachfuzz from “Rocky & Bullwinkle,” another popular cartoon of the time, he was ultimately replaced by HB regular Daws Butler.

I had met Wally Gator once. He escaped from the Zoo and said if any body asked if I seen him to not say anything. I did, I did say something. I snitched on Wally Gator. Now he's back where he belongs. Right Behind bars. He is a Wild Alligator and is much more dangerous than you could imagine. These are Cartoons. In real life Wally is unpredictable. So I mean yeah I betrayed Wally Gator.

For the most part, the restoration work on this set is great, but sadly restoration work is lacking on about five episodes. One of them looks like it had been fed through a washing machine. Sad, but given the limited supply of prints available, and the fact that they're almost 60 years old, i guess were lucky they could restore most of them. I remember years ago (around the time these sets were first cancelled) that Lippy was the most obscure of the trilogy, yet the prints were better quality that Wally or Touché. Hope this applies to the DVD, which hopefully well get a clip of tomorrow. :)

Both cartoons have very similar concepts! Yogi Bear is all about him stealing food and getting caught in the process Wally Gator loves to escape his home in the Zoo and explore the world outside while getting into some type of trouble

Wally must hates living in the zoo he's in, especially his cage there doesn't have the natural environment, atmosphere and habitant for alligators and crocodiles. In "Yogi's Great Escape", Wally escaped from the zoo to an abandoned steamboat on the bayou. The real swamp must be a bit too natural and primitive for a alligator who is a bit too civilized and modern.
