With former writing experience (CSI: Miami), I like your insights. And agree, the trench coat smuggling scene is ABSURD, comically absurd. But weirdly, I have to defend the editors a bit. By the time the footage gets to them: that ship has sailed. I can almost guarantee behind closed doors they said “this is shit” but they would never say it to the showrunner/producer when they came into the editing bay to watch the rough cut. The film industry oddly works like the empire: it’s based off of fear. Fear of being fired mainly. An editor no matter how high up would never tell the showrunner this is crap. If they did, they would do so, knowing they’re burning that bridge and future gigs as well. Word travels. Sometimes the industry is called the golden handcuffs: they make a good amount of money and don’t want to risk it by opening their mouth. It’s better to keep your mouth closed and collect your paycheck.

Exactly WHEN did Reva plant the bug and and more importantly WHY??? She was going to torture Leia not release her. And if she released her it would be to her Senator dad NOT to the rebels. So why plant a bug in those few seconds she’s holding the droid?? When did she even give the droid back for that matter? Did she know he was going to rescue Leia? Why does she think this 10 year old knows anything at all, she was playing in her garden then got kidnapped by Reva’s orders and now we’re here. Coming from the military, the “I’m your commanding officer” line was absurd. Everyone knows who your current CO is and when a new CO is scheduled to take command, you know who they are a year in advance. And if I was on guard in a highly sensitive area and a high ranking officer who didn’t have clearance came through I would say, “I apologize ma’am but according to protocol I have to inform the Executive Officer/Command DUTY Officer of your visit. Please stand by for their greeting.” If they started giving threats I would call security along with another high ranking officer. I would not be in trouble, nor would the guard in the show. Because it’s denying your actual commands standing orders to NOT do so. A slightly better scene for this episode: She takes in a forged report of the incident with Obi-Wan stating she is commanding officer of the area where it took place and was requested to give it in person. She gets a temporary security badge to hand it over to the CO of the Inquisitor building/an actual inquisitor

Another reason why the water hallway scene was stupid: they had just spent several scenes showing us Obi is now very weak and has lost much of his connection with the force - he could barely lift leia or move that random thing on the ship - but in this scene he somehow has the power to hold back literally tonnes of water that is under extreme pressure from how deep under water they are??? They could have had Obiwan take the storm troopers armour and disguise himself. That could have been a nice callback...to the future. Leia is so tiny, they could have snuck her into some kind of a backpack and have Obiwan carry her on his back instead of the ridiculous scene that they had. The scene were the spy woman beat the officer that questioned her...No one in the other room noticed, yet they showed it happen from the perspective of that other room, and you could clearly hear a fight happening. Bad writing, bad directing, and bad editing. It is so much wasted potential.

One of the central problems at the heart of this show is the same as the sequels; the need to "correct" what Lucas made. It's apparent from what Joby Harold has said, that he finds it either weird, or 'wrong' that Vader and Obi-Wan are so 'calm' in ANH and so angry in ROTS - and that presents an "opportunity" to fill in blank that doesn't need anything more than our own imagination. And this comes back to another recurring problem with Disney Star Wars under Kennedy; the need to have people be emotional and shout at each other, even if it isn't justified or earned. But when you use a little logic and recognise that these are two monks in a samurai style duel, the way they behave makes perfect sense. They know it's a duel to the death. They have a different ideology, and a formidable opponent, and they know that they have to stay in control in order to win this duel. And then we have the typical Kennedy Star Wars aspect of bait and switch to market the show as one thing, and deliver something no one ever asked for, and then complain that fans are impossible to please and racist.

You're the first person I've seen take issue with their erroneous use of the term "commanding officer", it's been driving me nuts. It's like they heard it in a war movie and thought it meant something else. So much of this show reeks of the writers just assuming they know things and not researching anything. When the troopers tell Obi Wan to get on the ground in EP 3, no one thinks to disarm him. It was irrelevant to the plot in the end, but surely anyone who's ever seen COPS would know that's the first thing you do. I just picture a room full of 22 year olds so impressed with themselves they don't think anyone else knows anything.

The first 6 movies have set up everything for them to work with but they can’t get it on point. What is problem? These directors don’t like Star Wars they have no idea what they are doing. They should sit down with a drink and some popcorn and enjoy the six movies that George Lucas made before they even think about working on a Star Wars movie. After that they should check out animation series. After that check out some popular games and comics and after that check out fan made movies and sites. I think Obi-Wan would have been more surprised that Anakin survived. He left Anakin to burn on Mustafar and assumed he would die there. I can see Organa telling Obi-Wan that Anakin survived and that would be what would prompt Obi-Wan into Qui-Gon’s new training. This show is a mess.

Fill your script with flashy, high tension, cool stuff that will bring out strong emotions from your audience. And just fill the rest with whatever. The beginning of the episode is even more nonsensical than you said. If you remember in episode 3, the original plan was for our heroes to go through the tunnel to meet a pilot who would give them a ride off the planet. But Leia wound up going to the end by herself and getting captured by Reeva, who had killed the pilot. Now, if Reeva had simply detained Leia and stayed right there, it is likely that the Sandsnake and her droid would have brought an unconscious Obi Wan to that same spot, in hopes they might still catch their ride. And since Obi Wan, not Leia, is the one Reeva wants, there is no reason not to just wait for him there, or leave some stormtroopers to wait for him. But it looks like she just took Leia and left, as if she forgot how close her primary target was. Or else, Reeva somehow knew that Obi Wan got off the planet by others means, even though even I don’t know he would have escaped with his escape route discovered, his pilot dead, and enemies who should have been watching the skies all over the planet.

Also simply, how a ship escape a planet under imperial lockdown? Especially when you know precisely the area to survey XD I guess that some spacehsip don't have identifiers but they still can be detect at a point, some ship must have some really good furtive technologies?

But it doesn’t make sense for Reva to not attack at the end, how would Reva even know that Leia would escape, she wasn’t part of the plan to escape. Secondly, why would Vader be ok with Obi Wan getting away given (as they both say) obi wan is the primary target, the other rebels location is a huge 2nd objective to getting Obi Wan for Reva and Vader. Ridiculously bad writing, plot holes and just dumb continuity. The story just seems to suit whatever it feels like without considering both cannon and the characters original primary objective which is Ono Wan!!

It's over stupid, you're totally right, Reva put a tracker but don't even know if Leia can manage to escape... And another stupid thing Leia is supposed to get back to Alderaan now and you don't need any tracker to know this but just a brain... but indeed they will find any stupid excuse to get back to "the pass" base first... The fact that they are not purchased by tie fighters or any imperial cruiser should give them hint they are tracked... But Wade dead you know... so they sad and shut off their brain.

How did Leia get the Droid in her pocket anyway? The last time we see that thing Reeva was holding it, when the Stormtroopers dragged Leia to the torture room, so Leia didn't have that thing on her when Obi-Wan rescued her. Did Obi-Wan find it somewhere while he was searching for Leia in a deleted scene or something? The more you think about this stupid show, the worse it gets.

I noticed everything you pointed out with that ridiculous hall way scene where obi wan is holding the window. However you missed another detail...as soon as the doors close and obi wan turns around, the stormtroopers have already drowned and are floating around like they've been there for a while.

Surprised there was no mention of the freeing Leia scene where Obi-Wan, one of the most honorable characters in Star Wars, (somehow) briefly cuts the lights and assinates two stormtroopers in the pitch black... like a sith would.

I honestly think if they had thought about the scenes between Yoda telling Obiwan I have training for you and Obiwan dropping Luke off with the Lars family would have been a great point to do this series. For example we could have opened up with Yoda training Obiwan to connect with Qui gon jinn. However his inner turmoil is blocking his concentration. Obi would be struggling with the Darkside of his failure with Anakin and his fatherly love for baby Luke. Slowly Obi could ease his pain with something to love like his animals Luke heck even a semi equal respect between Owen and him. I mean in the comics Ben saves Owen from Black krrsantan for Pete sake. Use the character already! Obiwan is the guy that gave BK his scar!

this is crazy and maddening to me. The Wire is one of the greatest tv shows ever precisely because the creators/writers were so familiar with the world and characters they would be presenting AND understood there were aspects they needed to reach out to knowledgeable sources and/or research extensively.....that and Simon and Burns have more talent in their pinkies than the entire stable of LucasFilm writers.

disney knows these hardcore fans will eat up just anything they throw at us. they’re making this show about reva and leia, not obi wan. reva has had more screen time than luke in the entire sequel trilogy. and that’s not a good thing. this is about obi wan, post ROTS, in hiding, finding out the truth, building a relationship with luke & leia. but no, he’s just running away with leia and reva is on their tail the entire time. i wasn’t expecting this show to be good because the marketing tells us it’s about vader and ben. it’s exactly like morbius. false advertisement. i’m not expecting much for ep 5 & 6.
