Things like this Clipper (and others) in Neutron are designed to correct basic recording errors people often make. Don't make these errors when recording and you don't need Neutron 5. And any good free compressor will do most of what Neutron 5 does anyway.

Untrue. Saturation isn't a corrective technique--it's a tonal shaping feature. Reducing Neutron to audio correction is just silly--they already have RX11 for that. Sounds like the versatility of Neutron as a whole has eluded you.

There are several other modules in Neutron 5 that aren't anything like compressors. It's true that most of those modules can be found in the freebie universe, but where Neutron shines is not just the way that you can chain a number of effects together like a channel rack. You can have it on multiple channels or busses and they communicate with each other. e.g. You can have the EQ or the compressor on your bass being controlled by the effects on your kick. There are also the AI/learning modes that might not give you a perfect chain every time, but are useful for highlighting the things you may want to fix with other plugins. e.g. It will indicate when your EQ is way out of whack, or you have scope for some heavy compression.

If you look at the meters on the right, the peak levels after clipping are even lower than before clipping. That’s the whole point of using a clipper.

Can anyone explain the advantages of using a “ clipper” over hard limiting, other than adding even more distortion, oh and of course an opportunity to sell yet another piece of software that does the same as something you already own by giving it a different name!

A clipper is essentially a compressor chopping off the peaks, as opposed to limiting them.
